MAYSVILLE MONTHLY FEB2016.indd
A Community Update
February 2016
Message from the Superintendent
Winter in Ohio can be challenging due to snow and icy
conditions leading to several days out of school. But,
spring is around the corner and our students are back in
the classroom and excited to learn. Currently we have
missed 5 days of school. We are forgiven 5 so at this
time we do not have any to make up.
I am very pleased with the accomplishments of our students, not only in the classroom, but also in the many
activities that they do outside of the classroom. Our
students are achieving at high levels in the things that they do and I want to congratulate them for their success. I am very proud when I go to various meetings around the county and state and people are talking about what is happening at
Maysville.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank the Maysville Local School District
community for allowing me to serve as your superintendent. I will be stepping down
at the end of the school year to pursue an opportunity in another school district. I
feel confident that the successes will continue and the challenges will be conquered.
Maysville has a special place in my heart and forever will be home to me. I wish
Maysville only the best in the future and go PANTHERS.
Reading Party!
Mrs. Hartman’s kindergarten class and Mrs. Dixon’s fifth grade
class got together for a dojo reward and had a reading party in
Mrs. Dixon’s room! All of the children were in small groups and
each took a turn reading a book to the others in the group. There
were car books, Pete the Cat books, winter books and beginning
reader books. All groups took turns reading all of the books and they enjoyed each one! When Mrs.
Hartman’s class returned to their room, they brain stormed on how they could get Mrs. Dixon’s class to
come to their class next – maybe a game afternoon! All of the children enjoyed their time together and
look forward to getting together again!
Hip, Hip Hooray to the Sparkle Students!

There will be a concert to prepare for the contest on
March 3rd. We are inviting Morgan and Crooksville high school bands to the concert to play as well.
Those schools are directed by Maysville alums Korey Parlin and Antony Dunlap. The concert will be
free so please come out and support all three bands

Competition
There were fourteen high school band members who traveled to Marietta College on February 13th to compete in solo contest. Some of the students took multiple solos, while some just took the one. In any event
these students went over and above to represent themselves, their school and their community. The scoring
system goes from a “I” superior the highest score you can achieve, to a “V” poor the lowest rating you can
receive. The following student participated and here are their results: James Doney played four solos and
received four “I” ratings, Noah Rusnak two solos- two “I” ratings, Tess Nicholas two solos- one “I” and one
“II”, Hayden Dutro two solos- one “I” and one “III”. In order to take more than one solo, they all have to
be on separate instruments. The rest of the list all took one solo: Wesley Wiseman-“II”, Katie Sellers- “II”,
Savannah McCoy- “II”, Joey Francis- “I”, Ethan Sesser- “II”, Cheyenne Frank- “I”, Preston Frick- “I”, Ethan
Lussier- “II”, Joel French- “III”, Matthew Pitcock- “I”.
The Middle school students will have the opportunity to go to contest at West Muskingum High School for
solos on April 9th.

Spotlight on Callie Tatman - Valedictorian - Class of 2015
Maysville High School Class of 2015 Valedictorian Callie Tatman is currently
a Radiologic Technology major at Zane State College. She is also working towards an Associate's Degree in Science. Callie has been on the Dean’s List both
of her semesters at Zane State. She was also recently chosen to receive one of
Zane State’s Women of Achievement Scholarships. Callie is currently doing
her clinicals at Genesis where she does things like taking x-rays in the x-ray
department and for the emergency department. She also does fluoroscopy
procedures and assists in various surgeries. While busy with school and her
clinicals, she still manages to find time to work for the family business, Tat's,
and be on the leadership team at her church. If you see Callie, be sure to tell
her what a great job she is doing! We are proud of you, Callie! Keep up the
good work!
Chill Out After School with the 21st Century Group
Come join in the fun! Our students are growing and expanding
their knowledge and skills with the 21st Afterschool Program.
Eleven students received their CPR certification. The 4-H club
had firefighters speak to their club and demonstrate how to put
on their gear. Archery students are aiming straight and the Minute to Win It students are learning skills that increase their agility. Homework help is being provided for everyone to aide in
academic growth. Learning and laughing is what we do best!
The 21st Century Afterschool Program has expanded their classes once again for more opportunities for students. The new session began February 16th and will end March 17th. The Art
Spirit class is giving students the opportunity to test their art
skills and decorate our halls to boost school spirit. Another class
allows the students to use their gaming skills with collectible
cards. For those who like to read, a book club has been formed.
The Mad Scientists are back at their wild experiments. For those
students who need a little extra help dealing with the problems
middle school students sometimes face, we are offering counseling with a Six County counselor. All of these classes and more
are opened for new students till March 17th.
After a 2 week break we will begin our last session on April 4th.
During this session we will be offering more new options for students. Century National will be working with students on budgeting and they will be given the opportunity to open their own
savings account as well. Katie Dodson from Fringe Salon will be
working with students on grooming their hair, skin care, makeup and nails. Students will still be focusing on academics the first
hour and relaxing with a variety of activities the second hour. Sign-ups can be done in the office, or
with Mrs. Stall and Mrs. Duff. Don’t wait, come have fun with us now!
All students, grades 8 - 11, have received scheduling materials for
next school year. Please discuss your students' class requests with
them. Contact the guidance office with any questions.
The College Credit Plus meeting was held on February 25th. If
your child plans to take college classes next school year and was
unable to attend the meeting, you MUST schedule an appointment to meet with a counselor for advising and policy guidelines.
Please call 454-7999 and ask for Mrs. Mitts or Ms. Brown to set
up an appointment.

Preschool
This month the preschoolers got to do various activities centered on construction and Valentine’s Day. For
construction the students got to paint with tools, build
buildings with blocks and play doh, and pretend they
were working at a construction site. Even some of the
classes got to experience real construction happening
by watching the workers build the new storage shed by
our building.
Valentine’s Day was an exciting time for the students.
They got to invite some of their loved ones to come to
school and take part in various activities. They got to
play with slime, paint with heart shaped cookie cutters, make patterns with candy hearts, and pass out
their valentines to their friends. They also got a chance to show off their Valentine’s Day boxes and bags
that they worked so hard on at home and school. Thank
you to all those loved ones who were able to make it to
our Valentine’s Day celebrations. It was a fun time had by
all involved.

may have changed.
High School Students and Parents
The theme for this year's yearbook is a "Journey". This year's senior class is the first group of students
to go through all the new buildings on the Maysville Campus. The yearbook staff would like to create a
timeline of memories and photos that began when the students were in kindergarten and run through
their senior year. We not only need information and photos from seniors but freshmen, sophomores,
and juniors as well. Announcements at school were made from November through January and we
only netted approximately 12 photos. We desperately need your help!
How can we make this easier?
There is an app that is used with your cell phone
in which you can send photos directly to the
Balfour Publishing Company's Website. These
photos go into an account the yearbook staff has
access to. This free app is called Balfour Image
Share.
On an android phone go to the Play Store, and
on the IPhone go to the App Store. Search for
the Balfour Image Share app and install it. Once
it is installed open the app. Enter your account
