Being a Single Sailor
and away from home is no
easy matter, and that is why
the team at Naval Station
Everett’s Smokey Point
Complex, and representatives from Naval Station
Everett’s Morale, Welfare,
Recreation (MWR), strive
to make the life of a Single
Sailor easier — especially
when it comes to saving
money.
On May 19 a “Super
Sales Event” was held at the
Commissary at the Smokey
Point Complex. This event
demonstrated to a group
of Single Sailors the saving
benefits offered at the local
Commissary.
“The Commander of Navy
Installations
Command
(CNIC) provided a grant
to Naval Station Everett to
educate young Sailors on the
benefits of shopping at the
Commissary,” said Jeffrey
Shaw, an MWR representative for single Sailors. “We
have had several events over
the last few weeks identifying the benefits here, and the
event today really hit home.”

a tour of the commissary, a
price comparison discussion
(Commissary vs. “Other
stores”), a sushi demonstra-
tion, barbecue, and a raffle
and prize giveaway. Not
only did the event highlight
savings at the commissary,
but also the variety of food
choices offered at the facility.
Leva Fairley, “Super Sales
Event” manager, emphasized
how surprised she was that
some Sailors do not even
know that the Commissary
exists.
“Making commissary
prices accessible to our
Sailors is a necessity,” said
Fairley. “That’s why I feel
events such as this one, gives
Sailors the opportunity to
see how they can save.”
Lorne Dalgleish, a Kraft
sales representative, attended the event to show his
appreciation for the Navy
and the great saving opportunities provided to Sailors.
“An event like this allows
products like mine to be
put on display, and at a
price affordable for young
Sailors,” she said.
