Teachers: Derek Miller & Leah Erb Grades 5 - 8 Yorkville High School June 20th –June 24th (M-F) 11:30am – 1:00 pm Cost: $60 Did you know that girls make up nearly 50% of videogame players in the United States but only a small percentage become game developers? Let’s change that! Any girls interested in videogame design or programing in general can sign up for this one week camp and learn the basics using the free software GameMaker. Brick Breaker, Catch the Ball and a maze game are just some of the games that you can create! Questions? Rockets! Balloons and Airplanes! Students will have fun exploring the principles of aeronautical engineering with hands on activities sure to knock your noggin. Chemical Engineering Session: 10:00-11:00- Grades 3-5 12:00-1:00- Grades 6-8 Come and make a mess while experiencing the fun of chemistry! Students will experiment using fun hands-on activities. Create and walk on a pool of Oobleck as you learn about the states of matter. Mentos and Diet Coke, what reaction happens and why? Create your own liquid rainbow as you learn about density! If so, join us to make videogames using the free GameMaker software. Campers can create games by draggingand-dropping commands without the need for complicated code! Let’s step it up! This week will focus on expanding the maze game and creating a platformer using the free GameMaker software! Previous Advanced Video Game campers can take this again and work on independent projects! Minimum 15 students, Maximum 30 Lego Robotics Teachers: Brian Tworek, Wamecca Rodriguez, Steve Norton Grades 2 – 4 Yorkville Intermediate School 8:00am -11:00 am (M-F) Cost: $65 Session 1 June 20th -24th Session 2 June 27th –July 1st The fun of robotics! Come join this camp to create your very own robot! Using the Lego WeDo kit, students will work in pairs learning through hands-on experience the basics of programming, designing and engineering all while having a great time. Minimum 10/Maximum 20 students per session Teachers: Brian Tworek & Steve Norton Lego Mindstorms Grades 5 –8 Yorkville Intermediate School Cost includes a 4H June 20 – 27th (7 days) membership! 11:30am -2:30 pm Cost: $100 Through a partnership with Yorkville School District 115, we invite you to join Kendall County 4-H for a SPIN - SPecial INterest Club focused on Robotics concepts and execution. This class introduces intermediate level topics in building and programming robots using the LEGO Mindstorms NXT. Students with previous LEGO Mindstorms experience practice mechanical design, construction, programming and teamwork skills. In pairs, using LEGO parts, motors and sensors, students build at least two different robot models and use a computer to program their robots to move, react, and make sounds in order to solve challenges. Minimum12/Maximum 20 students Teacher: Chris Palmisano Storm Spotting & Grades 5 -9 Weather Observation Yorkville Intermediate School Cost: $60 June 20th & 21st (Mon & Tue) June 20th 8am-10am Includes the cost of an official CoCoRahs rain gauge June 21st 8am -1pm Students can become a trained storm spotter and partner with the National Weather Service! This 2 day camp will provide the basic information on storm formation and what to look for as severe weather approaches. During day 1students will learn to become active weather observers in their own community by becoming part of CoCoRahs (Community Collaborative Rain, Hail and Snow) Network. People of all ages are actively involved in the weather their community experiences by reporting their observations on the CoCoRahs website. Students will visit the National Weather Service and receive training by a meteorologist. The training will conclude with a tour of the entire facility. The cost of this camp includes an official CoCoRahs rain gauge. More information can be found at www.cocorahs.org Minimum 10/ Maximum 20 students Page 2 Music Camps Summer Band Camps Teachers: Meredith Melvin, Maggie Davis, Linda Duy, Kelly Cailteux *All camps will culminate with a casual concert for family and friends* Location: Yorkville Middle School June 20 – 30th (Week 1 M-F)(Week 2 M-TH) Beginning Band Camp- 6th & 7th Grade 8:00am – 9:00am Cost: $60 (No experience required) This camp is for students who are planning to enroll in band for the first time in 6th grade or who wish to change instruments. This camp will focus on note reading, instrument assembly, and instrument maintenance. Please contact Maggie Davis at mwood@y115.org (YIS and ACES) or Meredith Melvin at mmelvin@y115.org (BBES and GRES) if you are interested in signing up for this camp so we can work to get the appropriate materials prior to the camp start date. *In the following camps students must have participated in band during the 2015-2016 school year: Band Camp Grades 6-9 come join us for 2 weeks of fun music making! This camp will focus on instrument care, note reading and playing technique. Each student will need to have an instrument and a book. Minimum 5 students Orchestra Camp - Incoming 6th grade 9:15am -10:15 am Cost: $60 Join us for 2 weeks of fun music making! Calling all rock and roll students! Do you sing? Do you play an instrument? Would you like to learn the rock history of influential bands like the Beatles, among others? Students in this camp will collaborate with fellow rock musicians and put on a rock and roll show! Minimum 10 Students Culinary Camps Young Chef’s Academy I Young Chef’s Academy II Teachers: Teachers: Grades 2-4 Yorkville Intermediate School June 20th – June 24th (M-F) 11:00am – 1:00pm Cost- $65 Grades 3-6 Yorkville Intermediate School June 27th – July 1st (M-F) 11:00am – 1:00pm Cost- $65 Join our culinary camp and learn to be a Young Chef. This is a great opportunity to stir-up creativity and learn secrets in the kitchen. Kids will come home with a full belly, a cookbook, and a chef’s hat to complete the look. Each day we will create themed goodies that are both fun and healthy. These young chefs will be ready to take the lead in your kitchen. Minimum 12 students/Maximum 20 If you enjoyed your culinary experience last year, join us for new and exciting creations! This will be another great opportunity to stir up creativity and learn the secrets in the kitchen. Kids will come home with a full belly and a cookbook. Would you love to learn to decorate? Join this camp and learn the basics of cake decorating! Students will create borders, stars, flowers and leaves. You will leave this camp with your own cake decorating tool kit where you can continue creating at home! All students must bring a lunch; refrigeration and microwaves are available for use. Auditions June 20h Get Into the Act! June 20th – June 24th (M – F) 8:00am – 2:00 pm Cost: $70 Minimum 19 students/Maximum 45 June 20th – July 1st (M – F) 8:15am – 12:45pm Week 1- Yorkville Intermediate School Week 2- Yorkville Middle School Cost: $100 Performance: July 1st at Yorkville Middle School 7pm Minimum 25 students/Maximum 40 We Are Monsters is a hilarious new musical that follows human kids into a monster cabaret filled with quirky monster characters. The adventurous humans uncover vegetarian vampires and rock n’ roll werewolves, gradually realizing there may be more to these monsters than meets the eye! Most importantly these monsters and kids discover the importance of friendship and celebrating in the attributes that make each of us different and unique. Get into the act! Come join us for fun and learning about theatre and acting. Focus will be on character development and performance technique. Students in camp will have the opportunity to work with student volunteers from YHS speech and theater programs for script selection, artistic vision, and perfecting character development. Theatre exercises and games will be used to help participants explore the world of theatre arts. This is also a great chance to sample theatre or expand an interest. No previous experience is required. Yorkville Foxes Step Teacher: Wamecca Rodriguez Grades 6 and up Yorkville Intermediate School Gymnasium June 16th, & 17th (Thurs & Friday) 9:00 am -5:00 pm Cost: $40 Minimum 12 students/Maximum 40 So you like to dance, but can you step? Learn what step is all about! Open to students interested in the performance art of stepping. Sign up if you want to try it for fun, planning to try out for a Yorkville step team, or you’re a current stepper looking to improve for next season. In this camp you will learn the elements of a good step routine, learn new steps, a few hip hop moves, meet new people and have lots of fun! A mini performance will be conducted on the last day. This camp will offer a fun filled week of sculpture (3D), painting, printmaking (2D) and drawing. We will work on individual and collaborative projects. Join this creative sewing class for beginners as well as experienced sewers. We will make a pillow case and pajama shorts while learning to thread a machine, pivot corners, zigzag seams, and insert an elastic waist band. Appliqued t-shirts will also be made if time allows. Come join this Yoga class and learn to focus on the power of stretching, deep breathing, and relaxation. Yoga is a positive way to deal with stress, and meditate bringing peaceful awareness.
