Contemplating Body Art without 'the body' might seem like a paradox, however it is a worthwhile exercise in a region where the depiction of the body is culturally sensitive. The exhibition considers to what stage and in which scenario the body has been represented in the last 25 years, presenting video and photography work by: Ebtisam AbdulAziz, Noor Al-Bastaki, Manal Al Dowayan, Tarek Al-Ghoussein, Mohammed Kazem, Waheed Malullah, Abdullah Al Saadi, Anas AlShaikh and Hassan Shairf.!This exhibition is held under the patronage of HH Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan bin Khalifa Al Nahyan. Location: Alserkal Avenue, Al Quoz 18.00 – 21.00 MAG: The Mobile Art Gallery, an Art Dubai Project In an effort to take contemporary art to a broader audience, Art Dubai Projects 2013 includes a nomadic, pop-up gallery that operates from a peripatetic truck, the Mobile Art Gallery (M.A.G). The travelling gallery titled 'The Nonfictional Fantasy' showcases contemporary works by UAE-based artists, including Azim Al Ghussein, Shamsa Al Omaira, Rami Farook, Rania Jishi, Karim Mortada, Sharmeen Syed and Sara AlHaddad. M.A.G will visit different neighbourhoods each day of Art Week. M.A.G is initiated and curated by the Dubai-based independent curators Isabella Ellaheh Hughes and Angelle Siyang-Le. Location: Alserkal Avenue, Al Quoz 18.00 Exhibition: Two Parallel Lines: Hassan Sharif and Luis Camnitzer Galleries Night also includes the opening of a special exhibition at Satellite, featuring the winners of the 2012 John Jones Art on Paper Award — Hassan Sharif and Luis Camnitzer, presented to the artists on the occasion of their two-person show at Alexander Gray Associates’ booth at Art Dubai 2012. The Moving Museum presents 3 ! TECTONIC, a show featuring 24 artists, including Jeremy Deller, Ali Banisadr, Michael Rakowitz, Bruce High Quality Foundation, Eddie Peake, Slavs and Tatars, Ryan Gander and Liz Magic Laser. Working directly with the artists, the exhibition offers a rich, intricate survey of their radical approaches and recent works. This special performance includes a live Emirati band plus remixed music composed by Joe Namy during his A.i.R Dubai residency in the lead-up to the fair. Drawing on Slavs and Tatars’ multi-disciplinary practice encompassing research, installations, lecture-performances and print media, this publication embraces new contributions on subjects that range from 17st century Sarmatism to the 21st century Green Movement. Slavs and Tatars is a faction of polemics and intimacies devoted to an area east of the former Berlin Wall and west of the Great Wall of China and is joined here by Agata Araszkiewicz, Ramin Jahanbegloo, Adam Michnik, Mara Goldwyn, Shiva Balaghi and Michael D. Kennedy. The exhibition returns for 2013 with MinD – Body, which will explore the role of the body and selfcensorship in contemporary art from the Gulf to investigate the creative and exhibitive freedom of the artist. The oil industry has been the subject of much scrutiny, yet little is known about this group of oil men and women which transformed the Kingdom. AlDowayan's black and white photographs of memorabilia go beyond the documentary or nostalgic, acting as portraits of a generation.
