March2016 - Famous Fido Rescue
us Famdoou Fi TM Finally settled in our new digs! We now have all the space we need to save our animals. Come on over and check us out! tion 3124 W. Irving Park Road p o d &A C E e ResAcuL L N I A March 2016 To all of our loyal Supporters, Greetings from the new Famous Fido Rescue No Kill Chicago Wellness & Learning Center! It has been a big year of change for Famous Fido Rescue and the animals that reside at our center and depend on us. It has been an impossible dream of physical and financial struggle and the commitment to make our new home a reality! Our new center is still a work in progress; however, it is a new hope for the animals that are currently under our care as well as the future ones that are being abandoned at shelters and left behind. The new Famous Fido No Kill Chicago Advocacy Center and the programs it provides offers a new way of thinking about how we adopt out dogs & cats, while matching them up with the proper guardians. It is not about quantity of homes, but rather about getting them into the right qualified, forever homes. This is a difficult task as we want to save them all! The flow to the open door shelters never stops due to lack of knowledge and education. People call Famous Fido daily to inquire about surrendering their dogs & cats. Most problems can be solved with resources and counseling, but many people have already made up their minds to give them up. At the new FFR No Kill Chicago Advocacy Wellness & Learning Center, we will work with potential owner surrenders to give them resources or to help them properly rehome their furry companions. Educational seminars will be conducted regarding proper care, the right human/dog or cat match and planning the future for their furry family member. Many excuses people give for surrendering their animals do not make sense such as moving, having a baby, not enough time, etc. No dog or cat should be given up without the knowledge of where the animal is going and what will happen to him or her. The owner needs to know how to implement proper adoption procedures including application, interviewing and home check. Famous Fido Rescue is counting on the public to get involved. • We are seeking community leaders to help bring forth lifesaving programs and educational seminars. • We are looking forward to setting up and featuring an art exhibit and memorial to the dogs and cats that have lost their lives in shelters. This exhibit will help people to understand how important it is not to abandon their animals, which is called “owner surrender”. When an owner walks away, they will never know the fate of their dog or cat! • We will also be educating people on the importance of registered microchips and animal ID tags. If their dog or cat gets lost and ends up at a shelter, they can be reunited before it is too late. • We are seeking monthly donors who believe in what we stand for. People need to come together by volunteering, donating and bringing forth their talents and ideas to make the change it will take to save these urgent lives! I am personally committed to helping these poor animals and I am asking you to join me! Sincerely, Gloria Lissner, FFRAA President & Founder FFRAA is currently in the 2nd phase of developing our new center and we are in need of many types of Committee Leaders to Volunteer! Famous Fido’s Featured Dogs & Cats Henry A precious three-year old male orange, short-haired Tabby. He is looking for a very special home because he is very special, loving and affectionate. He has feline leukemia and can live with another cat that has the same or he can live in a home with a dog. Joshua Max Joshua is a very sweet and loving male Chihuahua mix looking for a fabulous new guardian or family to call his own. Joshua is approximately 5 years old. He enjoys being held and snuggled. Joshua gets along with many dogs his size with the right introduction. Max is an extremely handsome & affectionate approximately 4 year old male Chihuahua/rat terrier mix. Max loves to cuddle and get along with many other dogs his size with the right introduction. He is looking for a wonderful home that has lots of love to give. Pumpkin and LittleBit A father/daughter pair. They are very bonded and must be adopted together. Pumpkin is a large, extremely sweet male orange & white tabby, 6 years old. Daughter LittleBit is 5 years old, a dark grey tabby with beautiful gold-green eyes. She loves to cuddle with her human friends and snuggle in her soft kitty tunnel. These 2 were going to be euthanized by an owner who did not want them anymore, but were saved by Famous Fido. Both are declawed and neutered/spayed. To meet and possibly adopt these featured cats and dogs or for more information, email fido@famousfidorescue.com or call 773.907.0305 A New Year’s Miracle for Isis, now renamed Alice. After 3.5 years at Famous Fido, she went to her new forever home with Famous Fido supporter & volunteer, Mary Beth Fahey on New Years day. Isis was abandoned by her former foster about 6 weeks after she was saved from a high kill shelter. Although Isis is a very sweet, loving and calm girl, in a home she wants to be the main event and must be an only furby. Because she needed to be an only child and she could be leash reactive with other animals, it made it difficult to find the right forever home for her where she would be safe. While at Famous Fido Rescue, Isis attended training and daycare and was very loved. She had an entourage of daycare transporters, her own facebook page and thousands of supporters and fans. Still, what was longed for most was a loving guardian and home of her very own. Famous Fido knew her need for a very special and dedicated person. One of Isis’ daycare drivers and rescue supporters, Mary Beth, lost her senior dog who also needed to be an only furby as well. She decided to adopt Isis and give her the miracle she was waiting for. On January 1st, 2016, Isis officially became Alice and started her new life! Happy New Year, sweet girl! Please Become a Monthly Donor! We solely rely on donations, volunteers and the community to help us. Famous Fido’s Recent Saves Over the past two weeks, Famous Fido Rescue saved 7 urgent dogs from the city shelter that would otherwise not have made it out. Tawny Will They included a sweet but shy Chihuahua named Tawny, a pitbull puppy named Will, an approximately 7 year old male puggle named Scrappy who's former person said he was 14 and requested he be euthanized, a handsome and very shy male basenji mix named James, a male lab mix puppy named Nemo, a younger male pitbull named Walter and an abused pit bull named Chloe who was used for breeding and a bait dog. All of these dogs have a story and all of them were out of time. Of the seven, two have made it out to foster homes, Will and Nemo. The other 5 are still looking for loving forever guardians. Please consider getting involved and supporting the new Famous Fido No Kill Chicago Advocacy Center so we can continue to save and place the most urgent lives as well as educate the public so more animals get rehomed instead of abandoned at shelters. If people learn the importance of registered microchip and id tags, it will drastically reduce stray dog & cat population and the number of animals that end up at shelters.
