RAYRTON SENNA’S 1st F3 WINNING CAR RALT RT3 - 1982/83 CHASSIS - #291 • • • • • • Toyota Engine 1st car that Ayrton Senna ever won a Formula 3 race in. Understood to be the last Senna Formula 3 Ralt known in existence. Raced in 1982 season by Enrique “Quique” Mansilla, placed 2nd that year. November 1982 Thruxton - Ayrton placed on Pole, Fastest Lap and Won. Gerhard Berger raced in 1983 During the years from 1979 to 1984 the Ralt RT3 was known as the machine of choice & dominated both British & European Formula 3. At the start of 1982, this Ralt RT3 Formula 3 Toyota engined car (#291) was purchased by West Surrey Racing team who fielded charismatic Argentinian Enrique “Quique” Mansilla as their No1 driver during that year’s British Formula 3 Championship. Mansilla was highly successful during 1982, finishing in 2nd place in the championship overall. However, #291’s real claim to fame came at the end of 1982 at Thruxton. West Surrey Racing had a new up & coming Brazilian driver for the 1983 F3 season & having just won the 1982 FF2000 championship, they gave the last non-championship drive of the 1982 season to the new man. November 13th, 1982 at Thruxton, Ayrton Senna da Silva had his first Formula 3 drive & as became his legend, he had a point to prove. Putting #291 on pole, he claimed fastest lap & went on to win the race; Senna had arrived! In 1983 with Ralt, he went on to win the F3 Championship. #291 went on racing competitively with Gerhard Berger as driver during 1983 & into subsequent years, until it came in to the care of the current owner. In recent years the current owner has lavished an intensive renovation on the car, with new engine & gearbox, stainless exhaust, the chassis x-rayed, with all other parts being thoroughly examined, restored or remade. The important decision was taken to return the car to it’s 1982 end of season Senna colours. An archive file & history is available to view & #291 is supplied with a small selection of spare wheels & front wing. This important piece of Senna history is presented for sale today after a large sum has been spent on restoring the car to an original condition and is a significant piece of motorsport history. Highly collectable & competitive, the car comes with new style active FIA papers, race logbook & with all items in date. It is ready to race at any significant historic event worldwide, such as the Monaco Historique Grand Prix. Price: £ P.O.A.
