It is designed for use on the Wheelhouse or Cockpit canopy of a power craft. The hatch opens up enclosed steering positions, allowing the helm and crew to experience the sunshine and fresh air on fine days. Unlike a hatch with a hinged lid, the handle on the Pilot Hatch never moves out of reach or requires lifting from a difficult angle when the hatch is fully open. The lid is moved using a single handle bar that also rotates to seal down the hatch. When full ventilation is not required, the lid can also be secured with a 5cm opening. The Pilot Hatch uses Lewmar’s unique seal system for improved sealing and easy servicing. The acrylic can be replaced without the use of sealant. The sliding technology comes from Lewmar’s racing hardware track systems, ensuring minimum friction. 54 Pilot Hatch Specifications OverallSize X PartNo. Size Version LowerFrame Flange Width mm in mm in Y Z Length Height X1 Y1 O R1 Cut-Out Width Cut-Out Depth Cut-Out Radii T R Radii TrackLength mm in mm in mm mm in mm in 581 22 7⁄8 577 22 11⁄16 29 1 1⁄8 73 2 7⁄8 373 14 2⁄3 507 14 1⁄2 507 19 15⁄16 42.5 11 1⁄16 /16 730 28 3⁄4 780 30 11⁄16 29 1 1⁄8 73 2 7⁄8 515 20 1⁄4 654 25 3⁄4 708 27 7⁄8 42.5 11 1⁄16 /16 844 33 ⁄4 790 31 ⁄8 29 1 ⁄8 73 2 ⁄8 638 25 ⁄8 770 30 ⁄16 720 28 ⁄4 42.5 11 1⁄16 15 9 30160000 N1 Smokegrey 15 9 30069900 78 Smokegrey 15 9 1 in Cut-SizeDimensionschange ifTrimkitsareused /16 30074000 60 Smokegrey mm 1 1 7 in 1 mm in 5 1 Pilot Hatch Dimensions X 1. It is made specifically for boat builders preparing recessed hatch openings that would originally have housed either a conventional hatch or an extremely expensive custom flush hatch. The hatch fits seamlessly into a specially designed recess in the deck and cannot retrofit existing decks. The precision of the fit makes for a sleek, modern look and means no more stubbed toes for boat owners. The Flush Hatch is now part of Lewmar’s standard range and is a fraction of the cost of flush hatches typically placed on superyachts and other prestigious builds. Hatch Fitting Guide Figure 1 Mark the Cut-Out • Before marking up the hatch, cut out area to ensure it is being fitted to a flat surface (+/- 1mm). • Ensure that the lid will be properly Figure 2 supported when fully open. • Mark the cut-out dimensions of the hatch onto the deck (Figure 1). Remember, if a trim is being fitted it will be necessary to increase the cut-out by the amount stated. To mark up the hatch’s corners, follow the “Using a compass to radius a corner” instructions below. Figure 3 • Hold the hatch up to the marked-out dimensions to check accuracy. Using a Compass to Radius a corner. Figure 4 Set compass to radius Keep compass setting constant After setting do not adjust Radius Cut and Drill Figure 5 • Take care to avoid any power cables, gas pipes or other hazardous devices. Be sure to use the appropriate safety equipment such as electrical power breakers and safety glasses. • Drill a hole for the jigsaw blade on the waste side of the cut line. Use a jigsaw to cut the aperture through the boat. It may be necessary to cut or to remove the headlining (Figure 2). Figure 6 • Alternatively, a hole cutter that matches the corner radii may be used to cut the corners (Figure 3). • Test fit the hatch before applying sealant. While the hatch is in place, mark the lower frame fixing holes (Figure 4). • With the hatch removed from the deck, drill all fastening holes (Figure 5). The hinges should be through bolted while self-tapping screws can be used for fitting the remainder of the frame. Figure 7 Bed Down and Seal • When you are entirely happy with the installation of the hatch, apply a generous bead of bedding compound all the way around the frame where it is in contact with the deck. • Apply sealant to both sides of the fastening holes on the hatch frame (Figure 6). If replacing an existing Figure 8 hatch, fill any old fixing holes with sealant. • Refit the hatch to the deck (Figure 7). Around the hatch frame, a small amount of bedding compound should be forced out of the gap between the frame and deck. Fasten the lower frame to the deck. • The hatch should be bolted in the hinge areas while self-tapping screws can be used for fitting the remainder of the lower frame to the deck sheet (Figure 8). Clean up excess bedding compound. Figure 9 61 Attractive, durable Lewmar Portlights. Portlights should be fitted to a flat surface (+/- 1mm). Tape the template to the boat and mark the cut line (Figure 1). Cut and Drill Figure 2 • Take care to avoid any power cables, gas pipes or other hazardous devices. • Please ensure that you use the appropriate safety equipment such as electrical power breakers and safety glasses. • Drill a hole for the jigsaw blade on the waste side of the cut line (Figure 2). Figure 3 • Use the jigsaw to cut the aperture through the boat (Figure 3). • It may be necessary to cut or remove the headlining. • Portlights are fitted by clamping the outer frame against the deck using the inner frame inside the boat (Figure 4). Figure 4 • Test fit the portlight and clamp ring before applying sealant (Figure 5). Bed Down and Seal • If you are replacing an old portlight, fill any old fixing holes with sealant. • When you are entirely happy with the installation of the portlight, remove and set it aside. Apply a generous Figure 5 bead of bedding compound all the way around the frame where it is in contact with the deck (Figure 6). • Refit the portlight to the boat. A small amount of bedding compound should be forced out of the gap between the frame and the deck the whole way around the frame (Figure 7). • Clamp the outer frame to the inner frame with the fixings enclosed (Figure 8). Ensure the fixing threads Figure 6 are greased. • Clean up the excess bedding compound. • Portlight installation finished (Figure 9). For more details on the CE Regulations, please refer to the recreational craft directive 94/25/EC. CE Approval Hatches The CE Regulations apply to craft up to 24m in length that are sold in the European Union. Although the regulations may Product Sizes Flush Hatch All Low Profile All Medium Profile All Ocean All Pilot All not apply to your boat, they are a useful guide for small craft throughout the world. Lewmar warranties are invalid if the product is installed in an area where it was not intended, and if the installation fails to meet the requirements of the CE regulations. The Regulations have Design Categories for boats based on their intended usage and propulsion (sail or power). All Lewmar hatches and portlights are for Design Category A (Ocean Sailing) or Design Category B (Offshore Sailing). Boats built to the CE Regulations are fitted with a plate showing the Design Category. The Regulations divide up the hull and deck into four specific “Areas.” A product that is suitable for fitting to an area for which it is approved is suitable for all the areas below its category. For example, a portlight that is approved for Area 2 may also be fitted to Areas 3 and 4, but not Area 1. All the hatches and portlights in this publication are CE Approved for the areas indicated on the product pages. NB: For craft with a freeboard greater than 1/12 of its overall length, a different upper limit applies to Area 1. Please refer to the recreational craft directive 94/25/EC. 72 Design Category Area A - Sail & Power 2 A - Sail & Power 2 A - Sail & Power 2 A - Sail & Power 2 A - Sail & Power 3 Sizes Design Category Area All B - Power 1 All A - Sail & Power 2 Portlights Product Stainless Stainless Standard Atlantic Atlantic All A - Sail & Power 2 10 to 32 A - Sail & Power 1 40 & 60 A - Sail & Power 2 Distributor List Argentina North Sails Sud Argentina Del Arca 59 1646 San Fernando, Buenas Aires - Argentina +54 11 4725 0200 tel: +54 11 4746 7561 fax: www.northsailssudamerica.com web: Australia Barlow Distributors (Australia) Pty Ltd 177 Phillip Street, Redfern NSW, 2016 Australia + 61 29 318 2128 tel: email: barlow@hotkey.net.au Harrold Marine Wholesale Pty Ltd Unit 3/19 Success Street, Acacia Ridge, Brisbane, Queensland, 4110 Australia +61 73 277 6563 tel: +61 73 277 6567 fax: email: hmw@optusnet.com.au JPW (Aust) Pty Ltd Unit 3, 51 Division Street Welshpool, Western Australia, 6106 Australia +61 89 351 9266 tel: +61 89 351 9266 fax: email: ghunter@jpwmarine.com.au Austria Alltechnik GmbH Rheinboldtstrasse 11-13 A 2362 Biedermannsdorf Bei Wien, Austria +43 2236 6467 60 tel: +43 2236 64676 76 fax: email: office@allroundmarin.com www.allroundmarin.com web: Brazil Sailing Products Avendia das Americas, 500 BL 11/207 Downtown Barra, CEP 22640-100 Rio De Janeiro, Brazil +55 2131549990 tel: +55 2124947223 fax: email: sailing@sailing.com.br www.sailing.com.br web: Bulgaria Yacht Shop Bulgaria (Transcommerce) Passenger Terminal, 2 Floor Port Varna, Bulgaria +359 52 69 22 99 tel: email: info@LZyachting.com www.LZyachting.com web: Canada Payne’s Marine Group 2120 Quadra Street Victoria, BC V8T 4B9, Canada +250 382 7722 tel: +250 382 4043 fax: email: sales@paynesmarine.com www.paynesmarine.com web: Payne’s Marine Group 2360 Industrial Street Burlington, Ontario L7P 1A1, Canada +905 332 8291 tel: +905 332 0557 fax: email: sales@paynesmarine.com www.paynesmarine.com web: France Accastillage Bernard 880 Avenue St Exupery, 6210, Mandelieu, France +33 4 93 90 47 47 tel: +33 4 93 90 47 53 fax: email: contact@accastillage-bernard.fr www.accastillage-bernard.com web: Technique Distribution Canary Islands Rolnautic S.L.
