Nucleofector™ Devices
Nucleofection™
A Revolution in Electroporation
Electroporation is a transfection technology based on the momentary
creation of small pores in cell membranes by applying an electrical
pulse. Lonza’s Nucleofector™ Technology is an improved electroporation
technology that can help you achieve transfection results never before
possible in primary cells, stem cells and hard to transfect cell lines
with standard electroporation. In contrast to classical electroporation,
with Nucleofection high efficiencies can be reached using much lower
substrate amounts and with only moderate impact on viability. The
comprehensive way in which Nucleofector™ Programs and cell typespecific solutions are developed enables nucleic acid substrates
delivery not only to the cytoplasm, but also through the nuclear
membrane and into the nucleus. This allows for high efficiencies up
to 99% and makes the transfection success independent from any cell
proliferation.

Mycoplasma detection
Mycoplasma Contamination in Cell Cultures
One of the most common contaminants present in cell
culture laboratories are mycoplasma1. A conservative
estimate states that between 15-35% of all continuous
cell cultures are contaminated with mycoplasma, some
estimates are even higher (up to 80% in some countries2).
Mycoplasma Effects on Your Cell Culture
Typical routes of infection are cross-contamination from
untested infected cells (e.g. via aerosols generated during
pipetting, use of same media bottles, handling of more
than one cell type at one time), contaminated materials,
contaminated donor tissue (<1%) or direct infection from the
researcher. The primary source is normally cross-contamination from infected cultures. Mycoplasma grow slowly and
do not kill the cells outright but affect various cellular parameters 1,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10,11. Thus, mycoplasma contaminations
can seriously impact the reliability, reproducibility, and
consistency of experimental results, representing a major
problem for basic research as well as for the manufacturing
of bioproducts. Standard testing for mycoplasma is an
important quality control.

Heat-On™ Block System
The safer alternative to oil baths
Heat-On accepts vials, tubes and flasks from 10ml to 5 litres.
Key Benefits:
•Replace messy oil baths, heating mantles and avoid spills
• Make your chemistry safer, cleaner and faster
• Solid aluminium blocks provide even heating
• Lightweight design allows rapid heating
• Unique well design eliminates cracking of flasks
• Blocks feature two probe holes for added convenience
• Optional and detachable lifting handles
• Optional PTFE Safety Covers reduce risk of user touching hot blocks
• Block for Florentine (pear-shaped) flasks
• Use up to 260˚C
• Fit on all leading hotplate brands with a 145mm Ø top plate; optional adapter plate for 135mm Ø top plates
Choice of block finishes:
• Fluoropolymer coating gives superb chemical resistance
• Anodised finish is durable, lower cost option
Oli baths are messy, dangerous and costly:
• Oil will discolour and degrade with repeated heating and contamination from chemicals, water and general debris
• Degradation results in a dangerous lowering of the oil’s flashpoint as well as increased smoking and fumes
• Oil should be regularly replaced to maintain a safe working environment
• Disposal of oil waste must be done in an environmentally and safe way, with associated costs
Special Offer!
Buy 2 Heat-On™ products and get a 3rd free!
Reasons for choosing Heat-On:
Cleaner, greener, safer!
The risk of oil fires and injury from hot oil spills, plus the mess
and cost associated with the use of oil means that oil baths no
longer represent safe working practice in labs. Heating mantles are expensive, difficult to clean, do not respond well to
spills and often create hot spots when heating.
Scientists are increasingly turning to specially designed aluminium blocks located on stirring hotplates to heat standard round
bottom flasks.

Media preparation
MEDIAJET
The MEDIAJET system offers the unique flexibility to fill Petri
dishes of various sizes, Petri dishes with two compartments as
well as test tubes of various diameters and length. At the same time,
MEDIAJET requires only minimal bench space in the laboratory.
• Easy handling: The intuitive, full size graphical user interface makes it very easy to control
all functions of MEDIAJET. The operation of the system is entirely self-explanatory, as all
functions and prompts are explained in plaintext.
•
Reliable walk-away automation: With the novel Feed-In / Stack-Out technology, MEDIAJET guarantees
a reliable and completely user independent operation. Typical production variations in the diameter or shape of the Petri
dishes are easily handled by the unit, as they are actively guided throughout the entire filling process. Moreover, the optical dish
sensors of MEDIAJET can be easily adjusted to virtually every Petridish brand at the user interface level.
• Media cost reduction: MEDIAJET has a built-in “Agar Spread Function” which ensures a homogenous distribution and an even
surface of the agar. It helps to optimize the agar level in the Petri dish and thereby allows a significant reduction of media costs.
•
Eliminating sources of contamination: For consistent agar plate quality, a clean environment during the dispensing process is
essential. The surface of the filling chamber is manufactured of a single piece of resistant PE, which allows convenient and
efficient cleaning. In addition, MEDIAJET is equipped with a UV lamp extending over the full length of the rotor where the dishes
are opened during the dispensing process. The lamp emits powerful 2.1 W UV-C radiation for optimal bactericidal efficiency in
the area most vulnerable to contamination.
• Biplate: For many applications, the amount of required agar can be reduced by using two-compartment Petri dishes. However,
pouring biplates by hand is time-consuming and inefficient. With the MEDIAJET vario biplate option you have an efficient and
reliable solution to fill two-compartment Petri dishes automatically.
