Many professionals who have already seen the changes at Glen Oaks have compared the beauty and layout to Augusta National – the highest of praise. Our top 100 players on the Player of the Year point standings after the Met Open (Aug. 19-21) will be exempt. Qualifying will be on Aug. 25th at Burning Tree Country Club (along with special qualifying rounds for players in the MGA Senior Open and the LPGA/PGA National Championship in Georgia). An explanation of the exemptions and qualifying is now posted with the entry information on the Met PGA web site. Entries Being Accepted for Met PGA Atlantic City Pro-Am Starting on Aug. 15th Our always popular Met PGA Atlantic City Pro-Am promises to be another winner with our continued hotel relationship at The Borgata Hotel and our two host golf venues, Hidden Creek and Atlantic City Country Club. The Pro-Am will be limited to 50 teams with 2 nights stay at The Borgata (Oct. 19th and 20th) and golf at Hidden Creek and Atlantic City Country Club on Oct. 20th and 21st. Entries will be accepted on the payment of the full entry fee and PGA Members will have priority to sign up between Aug. 15th and Aug. 25th. Get Ready for Patriot Golf 2014 The emotions and importance of the work of Folds of Honor are as impactful today as they have ever been. The Patriot Golf Day effort by our professionals is a small gesture to thank those who have sacrificed their lives and/or limbs fighting for our freedom and safekeeping. We will have champions of Patriot Golf Day raising significant dollars but our goal is to get every PGA Professional to do their part and raise dollars and awareness at their facility. Any and every donation will make a difference to the Folds of Honor Foundation. You can Answer the Call – take a few minutes to check out what this wonderful charity is all about and how you can help! Let’s Go Mets & Let’s Go Met PGA – Info Coming Soon for Citi Field & Met PGA Golf Night Our Met PGA Golf Night will be one part fraternalism, one part promotion and one part fun as we invite all our professionals, friends, partners, sponsors, allied association members and anyone who is around the Met PGA golf community to join with us for our 4th Met PGA Golf Night promotion later this month. Plan on bringing a group from your course along with family, friends, neighbors and anyone who would like to be part of this special evening at Citi Field. At this year’s event, we also will be reaching out to the Golf Course Superintendents as an additional “end of summer” celebration and night of relaxation. We are planning for the last week of August and the link for tickets and more info will be posted soon on our web site. Registration is now available for this Sept. 8th event with three formats (better-ball, two man scramble and modified Pinehurst) and an 8 am shotgun start. This year’s Championship is again sponsored by Mohegan Sun and presented by Jerry Shulock and Bushnell. Our Met PGA Seniors Championship returns to Pine Hollow on Sept. 10th and 11th and as we have done previously, this Championship will not only include age groups to provide more players with an opportunity to compete, but this will also be the qualifying for the National PGA Senior Professional Championship that has moved into November (the 13th – 16th) at PGA Golf Club in Port St. Lucie. Field is Set for National Car Rental Met PGA Assistants Championship Presented by Cobra Puma - Raffle Tickets To Be Mailed Soon More than 160 apprentices and class A-8 PGA Members will be at Bethpage Red on Sept. 2nd and 3rd for our 2014 National Car Rental Met PGA Assistants Championship. Raffle Ticket sales will supplement the purse as we shoot for a $60,000.00 payout again this year. The 36-hole test (field is cut to the low 70 scores and ties after 18 holes) will also be the qualifying for the National PGA Assistant Professional Championship (Oct. 30th - Nov. 2nd at Port St. Lucie) with the Met Section vying for 12 spots plus Frank Bensel who is exempt. Raffle tickets should be mailed by Aug. 8th to every entrant and additional books of tickets can be requested by contacting Dan Kiley at dkiley@pgahq.com. Assistants Championship Entry Can Be Attained with Conducting a Met PGA Junior Golf Fund-Raiser We have already heard about some great successes in the junior golf fund-raising arena with Seawane leading the way thus far with an $8,000.00 donation (plus an equal amount raised for another charity). Tyler Jaramillo has also been calling to encourage others to follow their lead which allows assistants raising $1,000.00 or more for Junior Golf to gain entry into the Assistants Championship’s top tier for raffle sales. Obviously we also have St. Andrew’s, Old Oaks and Garden City Golf Club among our perennial leaders with fund-raising still to come. If you have questions or would like some marketing ideas feel free to call our office or anyone who has had success in the past. With the Assistants Championship coming soon and more fund-raisers on tap, we are excited about the prospects of again reaching our $100,000.00 goal in 2014. Women’s Stroke Play Championship at Woodway on Aug. 18th Match Play Championship Entries Are Out as Well Our women professionals who are working for class A members of the Met Section are eligible for the Met PGA Women’s Stroke Play Championship. The match play draw will be based on points and there will be a PGA Member bracket (presented by the PGA Tour) and a non-member bracket. Matches will be arranged with a two-week window to complete each round.
