All of the cakes that were baked were sold out and I am delighted to say that 7CH as a tutor group raised over £100. A special thanks to Mrs Davies who baked a cake herself and helped the tutor group organise and sell the cakes. Chaplaincy Department 2015 Year of prayer for Consecrated Life. As announced by Pope Francis, this year is to be a year for those consecrated to religious life, both male and female, 'to wake up the world' with their witness of faith, holiness and hope, and for us to pray for vocations to the religious life. Thank you Neeve Dring and Robert Smith, Team Chaplaincy Year 9, for supporting me and praying for and welcoming our priests. On behalf of the staff and pupils of SJH Rachel would like to thank Father Peter Harvey for joining us in school and celebrating a lunch time Mass on Wednesday. More thanks to the ladies in the kitchen for their delicious lunch. Our Lady of Good Counsel, Eastwood. Rachel would like to thank Canon John Berry and his parishioners for providing the Memorial service for the Bereaved on Sunday afternoon. This was a beautiful time to be together, to pray, to remember, acknowledge and enjoy a cup of tea with friends afterwards. Team Chaplaincy Year 8 and 9 will be leading our Memorial Service on Tuesday 17 November at 12.30 - 1.00pm you are all welcome to send in the name of a family member of friend who has died in the last year and we shall light a candle and remember them together. Please contact Rachel for more information, thank you. Oasis Team stars Martha Robinson, Poppy Wood and Lyka Lorenzo, thank you for leading the way with our Buddy Groups. Thursday 19 November 2015 Bereavement Retreat Rachel will be running a retreat for pupils who have lost a parent through death. Please contact Rachel if you would like your child to be included in this morning retreat in SJH. Here at SJH we cannot say to you every day, we know, we care, we remember and you are doing brilliantly, we love you and we are proud of you but in the month of November we do stop, we do say this is your morning for you to know we care and that we have not forgotten. This is not a time to cry and be sad and to share our story, but it a time to come together, to let Rachel spoil you and to have time to enjoy the day. If you are not certain if this is for you, then pupils who have enjoyed the day in the past are willing to share their thoughts with you. Please contact Rachel. What did you think of in the Two Minutes silence? Rachel is collecting your thoughts, which Year 7 Team Chaplaincy will make into a book for our Upper room. Please send your thoughts to Rachel, please be honest, did you think of a shopping list? Did you think of the young men? One person in particular? If you would like time with Rachel to discuss this then her door is always open. Thank you to Charlie Manchester, Thomas King, Luke Wilson and Pretoria Stacey for beginning this book. The team played amazing against the best competition in the county. Well done everyone Mrs Joslin and Mrs Davies Year 8: St John Houghton vs Dukeries Academy Last time out, the Year 8 football team beat Bramcote School on penalties to gain their place in the 2nd round of the National Cup. This time round, they were faced with a difficult away tie against Dukeries Academy. After an hours journey, the boys arrived in good spirit and were eagerly anticipating the fixture. Almost immediately after kick off, St John Houghton attacked down the left side, with the ball falling to the feet of Nick Bradley, with a lot still to do, he unleashed a ferocious strike which nestled straight in to the top right-hand corner of the goal. St John 1-0 Dukeries. Pretty soon after, Nick Bradley doubled his tally for the afternoon. Theo Shelton bombed down the left wing and found Nick Bradley in the middle, who was left with too much space and tucked it away neatly. St John 2-0 Dukeries. Only ten minutes of the game had gone when Nick Bradley completed his hat-trick. Again, great work from Theo Shelton down the left who found Nick Bradley in the middle unmarked, who easily rolled it past the keeper and into the empty net. HT. St John 3-0 Dukeries. Rather naively of them, some of the boys thought the game was already won. However, Dukeries fought back strong and soon reduced the deficit to only one goal, with two quick-fire goals. St John 3-2 Dukeries. At this point, the boys were defending for their lives. Chris Stratford had a terrific game in goal and kept the boys in front with a string of fantastic saves. It was all one-way traffic in the second half. However, a free-kick 30 yards out was beautifully put away from Theo Shelton who struck the ball magnificently over the helpless goalkeeper. FT. St John 4-2 Dukeries. A tremendous effort from the boys yet again! Congratulations go to: Chris Stratford, Luke Gibbons, Oliver Wheeldon, Rhys Windridge, Alex Keogh, James McElwee, Theo Shelton, Liam Hughes, Jorge Kitchen, Oliver Jasper, Nick Bradley, Ryan Fee, Max Wildbore, Luke Wilson and Alex Leatherland. Onto the third round!
