Origin of dopin
-
Doping is an example of the
many attempts through history man
has done to artificially improve their
resistance to fatigue by participating in the
war, in hunting and sport.
Origin of doping
-On the practice of doping there are
many historical precedents. One of the earliest
references is provided by a picture showing
a Chinese Emperor chewing on a branch
of Ephedra.
Origin of doping
-More recently, caffeine is used since 1805
in swimming, athletics and cycling, which
records the first fatal case,
the Welsh cyclist Linton, who died in 1866
during the Paris-Bordeaux race by
taking drugs.
Why is there the Doping?
-
The athlete uses them to
stimulate or sedated, increase strength and
muscle mass, cardiac capacity, concentration,
relieve fatigue, even caused by your workout.

Therapeutic Use Exemptions

Athletes may have illnesses or conditions that require
them to take particular medications.

If the medication an athlete is required to take to treat an
illness or condition happens to fall under the Prohibited List, a
Therapeutic Use Exemption (TUE) may give that athlete the
authorization to take the needed medicine.

Therapeutic Use Exemption Committees (TUECs)

The purpose of the International Standard for Therapeutic Use
Exemptions (ISTUE) is to ensure that the process of granting
TUEs is harmonized across sports and countries.








What are the criteria for granting a TUE?
The criteria are:
The athlete would experience significant
health problems without taking the
prohibited substance or method
The therapeutic use of the substance would
not produce significant enhancement of
performance, and
There is no reasonable therapeutic
alternative to the use of the otherwise
prohibited substance or method.
Who grants TUEs?
The standard states that all International
Federations (IFs) and National Anti-Doping
Organizations (NADOs) must have a process in
place whereby athletes with documented medical
conditions can request a TUE, and have such
request appropriately dealt with by a panel of
independent physicians called a Therapeutic Use
Exemption Committee (TUEC).
IFs and NADOs, through their TUECs, are then
responsible for granting or declining such
applications
