About Us
Way back in the late 70’S, a couple of ski bums opened a little beer bar called Grumpy’s. The guys were
tired of all the trendy places in Sun Valley, Id. having happy hour, so they decided to buck the trend and
have Grumpy Hour, hence the name “Grumpy’s”!
One of the partners decided to try his luck in Mammoth. In 1984 Rodger Eagan moved to Mammoth and
with a new partner Rodger Guffey, opened the second Grumpy’s. Larger than its sister and having a full
bar, the new Grumpy’s was on its way. Grumpy’s quickly became a locals’ hangout. Some of the locals
even conducted their business at the bar of the rustic saloon. In 1990, Andree and Gregg Simas were
looking for a new challenge out of the city. They had just had their son Brian and wanted a better place for
him to grow up. Andree and Gregg had been coming to Mammoth for years. During a conversation with a
real estate broker friend, Gregg said how fun it would be to run a place like Grumpy’s. (Not knowing that
at that very time the restaurant was for sale.) The Simas’ came to Mammoth and two days later with a deal
for their dream.
The Grumpy’s tradition of great food, lots of sports on more than 35 TV’s and unlimited fun continued to
grow at the historic old fire station building that Grumpy’s occupied. By 1998, Andree, Gregg, and their
General Manager “Red” Hunt looked to bigger, newer digs. They moved down the street and reopened
around Christmas. Grumpy’s has been one of the spots to go in Mammoth and now with the addition of
Scott Konzen, (Gregg and Andrees favorite nephew), Mammoth’s favorite sports hang out has a younger
look and feel. Grumpy’s is still the first string as Mammoth’s only REAL sports bar.
