There is a lack of information exchange: The TTC is busy: The TTC is an enormous pain. It only works out if you have a class after 10:30am or before 3:30pm. People still do not listen, and when they arrive at the stop, and their doors do not open, they panic and hit the emergency button. The emergency button means the GO ambassador must follow a 20 minute procedure that is standard for an emergency button being pulled. System is inefficient: It is untimely: There are frequent delays on the subway. The fact that Durham Region Transit buses and the GO train never line up. Another is waiting out in the cold. All excerpts taken from commuting Ryerson students THE SOLUTION? • It’s “The only commuting app you’ll ever need” • Features alerts for bad weather and late transportation routes, aiding in solving lack of information exchange • Combines TTC and Go Transit using Open Source Data solving the problem of inefficiency • Customize the app to fit your commuting needs • Select favourite and less crowded routes • Receive alerts for specific lines in order to become more timely • Keep up to date with social feeds indicating the progression of transportation • Helps locate nearby Starbucks/ Tim Horton’s to your most visited stations. • Informs user of the arrival time of various vehicles at specific stations to keep order and make appropriate decisions, this will assist in the issue of transportation being busy. REVENUE MODEL There are many options 1. Advertising- Having Starbucks or Tim Horton’s pay a pre-determined fee every time a user clicks on the nearest location with the app. 2. Freemium to Premium- Let users access it for a specific amount of time and when the window closes the user must purchase it for a nominal fee. 3. Purchase Feature- Only the very basic model of the app is free, to access other features the user must purchase different elements. 4. Subscription Fee- Universities would subscribe to this app on a yearly basis for allowance of staff and students to use the application. COMPETITION • TTC and GO app • Other unofficial transit apps • • None provide a social experience Each download of Red Rocket, TO Mobile, or Toronto Manual is $2.99 • TTC Navigator requires iPhone 4 • myCommute can store information, and may not require internet connectivity at all times Robson, Dan. Transit App ADDITIONAL RESEARCH on alternative ideas Having more time to do what the students want is more beneficial than another media page, that simply distracts as students wait. Commuters will have more time to interact with others via myCommute. Ryerson already has Facebook and Twitter pages keeping students connected Student pride and community will come about with more time to explore and enjoy what the campus offers, rather than wait for various means of transportation. myCommute will allow more efficient travel giving students more time to spend as they wish. Spotted at Ryerson, the Eyeopener, and the Ryersonian already do this, it is more a matter of people taking the time to pay attention to media available. "Spotted at Ryerson | Facebook." Facebook. N.p., n.d.
