Lantech
Orion utilizes standard, off the shelf components and controls in
the construction of all of our wrappers – we’ll even provide you
the manufacturer’s part numbers.
Lantech is known in the industry as one of the few (if only) stretch
wrapper manufacturers to capture their aftermarket. They use
only proprietary parts and controls on their stand-alone wrappers,
and will do the same on automatics as much as possible. Chances
are, if you need a part on a Lantech machine, there is only one
place you can get it.
Orion offers a touch screen interface on every stand alone model
and competes price-wise with Lantech’s equivalents. No “Quick
Reference Guide” is needed, as setup is intuitive and the interface
tells you how to clear faults. Operators can also be prevented from
tampering with the setup.
The Lantech interface is a proprietary membrane panel – a
common failure is the rupturing of a membrane switch, at which
point the entire board needs to be replaced.

By counting teeth on our sprocket drive, we can precisely monitor
exact top wrap counts and be extremely effective in roping and
banding applications.
Most of our competitors have only one point count in one
revolution of the turntable or tower, making it impossible to
accurately count top/bottom wraps or to achieve high precision
roping configurations without expensive components.
Orion’s Low Profile machine bases feature fork tubes running front
to rear providing maximum portability and structural
reinforcement. The E model employs 12 Duraglide casters
(polymer tread) evenly dispersed across the surface of the
turntable, while the D & A versions (shown) use 18 casters. A
spring loaded tensioner provides consistent tension on the drive
chain and prevents sag.
The Lantech turntable machine base (high profile is not offered)
does not have much substance to it – notice that their machine
has to be shipped on a pallet. In fact, any bow or unevenness in
the floor will cause the machine to bind up. Twelve cantilevered
cam followers arranged radially on a common diameter provide
support. Given the price is about the same, which machine will you
want in your facility?

Lantech
Orion turntable wrappers are manufactured with full welded steel
construction, NEMA 12 control box, and full steel surrounds on the
tower. Our LPD & LPA models come with a rectangular surround
deck for easy pit mounting.
Lantech focuses on low cost manufacturing, but that strategy is
not reflected in their pricing. Plastic panels in an industrial
environment with forklifts speeding back and forth have often
fallen victim to cracks or other forms of destruction.
Orion utilizes chain and sprocket drives on all turntables and
towers for positive, non-slip drive.
Lantech’s belt pulley is an inexpensive power transmission
method, prone to slippage and wear.

Orion’s standalone automatic wrappers feature a pneumatic film
clamp and cut and wipe arm. The clamp is located at the 12 o’clock
position, allowing for loading from three sides. The cut and wipe
arm ensures that the tail is stuck to the side of the load.
Although Lantech’s standalone automatic turntables do not
require air, the machine can only be loaded from the front or from
one side. Also, the cam mechanism is prone to failure due to
ingress of film and pallet splinters, and there is no wipedown.
Orion utilizes a “C-path” design in our film carriage, allowing for
the film to come off the roll, cross the pre-stretch rollers to be
uniformly stretched, and get out and onto the load as quickly as
possible before film memory begins contracting the film.
Like many competitors, Lantech makes use of a “W-path” design in
the name of increased contact with the stretch rollers. With the
proper material and texture, the amount of contact with the
rollers doesn’t matter. Also, the introduction of the idler roller in
between the stretch rollers introduces inconsistencies in the
stretch of the film and makes for a longer film path.
