Wood glue 1-1/4” pocket hole screws 84 Brad nails handful Half turned legs 2 halves Drawer pull 1 Finish of choice Description Shanty-2-Chic.com Early American Nightstand - Page | 2 Drill pocket holes for 1-1/4” pocket hole screws as indicated by the arrows. These measurements are exact for this model. Measure and cut as you go to make sure everything lines up perfectly with your project. Use wood glue at every joint in this project. Attach the bottom panel to the sides with 1-1/4” pocket hole screws making sure the pocket holes are facing down. The top of the bottom panel is 5-1/2” from the bottom of the sides. Attach the top front and back braces. The front brace should be horizontal and the back brace should be vertical. Make sure the pocket holes are facing the outside of the cabinet. Then attach the top drawer slides. These are placed so that there is a 1-3/4” gap between them and the side panels. Shanty-2-Chic.com Early American Nightstand - Page | 3 Assemble the front faceframe. The top of the top piece should be 5-5/8” from the top of the sides. Attach the front face frame to the front of the case. Secure it with brad nails on the side panels and pocket hole screws from the bottom panel. Shanty-2-Chic.com Early American Nightstand - Page | 4 First, attach the horizontal boards for the drawer to run across with pocket hole screws. These should be horizontal and start at the bottom of the drawer opening and go back. Then attach the final cabinet brace to the sides with pocket hole screws and nail through it into the previous horizontal boards. The bottom of the brace should line up with the bottom of the drawer runners. In line with the front face frame, add 1 x 2 boards on end for the drawer to reference off of when in use. These can be glued and nailed on from below. Shanty-2-Chic.com Early American Nightstand - Page | 5 Attach the back with brad nails. Attach the front half-legs with wood glue and brad nails. Shanty-2-Chic.com Early American Nightstand - Page | 6 Add the extra 1 x 6 lower board and the 3/4” moulding below the drawer opening. Cove moulding was used in this model but you can use whatever 3/4” moulding you want. Construct the drawer body with pocket holes. Shanty-2-Chic.com Early American Nightstand - Page | 7 Flip it over and attach the bottom panel with glue and brad nails. Make sure the panel and the drawer sides are square. Attach the drawer front with wood glue and brad nails from the inside of the drawer. Make sure the bottom of the drawer front is lined up with the bottom of the bottom panel. Shanty-2-Chic.com Early American Nightstand - Page | 8 Drive a couple screws into the back 1 x 2 board added in step 5 to stop the drawer from going in too far. Adjust the depth of these as needed to get the perfect location for the front of the drawer Assemble the planekd top panel.
