Welcome to Summer at Trinity!
I am delighted to say that attendance is up on last year and we are
seeing many more people who haven’t found us before! This support
is vital if we are to realise our ambitious plans for the future. We also
recognise that we are in difficult economic times and have managed to
hold out ticket prices for the third year running. Our new digital cinema
is powering away and this season showcases the very best of world
cinema, Hollywood blockbusters and films direct from the London
International Animation Festival. With more screenings you have another
chance to catch up on your favourites! Our comfortable Bar & Café
is continuing to be a delicious success, serving audiences cakes and
coffees, light meals and pre-show 2-course meal deals. We have been
truly overwhelmed by the help that you, our audience, have given us so
far and we are grateful to Tunbridge Wells Borough Council and others

long night: boy scouts are rioting in Whitehall, the PM’s
golfing with the President, five Tory rebels are on the loose
and the Chief Whip’s playing at Santa – could this be the
beginnings of a leadership challenge?
This scandalously funny comedy blows the lid off the
Despatch Box and reveals the true secrets locked in the
Whip’s safe.

Upper class Charles Marlow, bashful around women of quality
- yet quite frisky with women of another stamp - is on his way
to the Hardcastle household to court Kate, the daughter of a
country squire.
Hilarity ensues when a bit of tomfoolery by Hardcastle’s playboy
step-son, Lumpkin, causes Marlow to mistake the home for an
inn, the squire for the inn-keeper, and Kate for a serving wench.
Kate quickly realizes that a saucy servant is just the role needed
to woo and test her suitor in this rollicking misadventure. Whilst
Hardcastle’s indignation intensifies, Kate’s appreciation for her
misguided suitor soars...
One of the great, generous-hearted and ingenious comedies of
the English language, Goldsmith’s She Stoops to Conquer offers

Looks. The classic comic duo, Maggie Fox and Sue

crinolines, wear flattering bonnets and sit at rainlashed windows in a pale and decorative manner.

Withering Looks takes an ‘authentic’ look at the lives
and works of the Brontë sisters – well, two of them

1979, Maud and her stay-at-home son, Mo, pass
their days happily together. He talks to the cat,
plays his drums and concocts ridiculous cocktails
for them both while she sits chatting away to the
people on the telly. No amount of coaxing from
Maud’s suave son, Hedley, and Mo’s glamorous twin
sister, Queenie, will persuade the eccentric pair to
lead a more normal life – even the “michael wave” is
a gadget too far and part of a world neither wishes
to inhabit.
This is a story set when new technology, business,
morality and social patterns were changing the
nation’s behaviour. Master playwright, Peter Nichols
(‘Privates on Parade’ & ‘A Day in the Death of Joe
Egg’), reveals in his hilarious and deeply touching
play that change is not always for the best and that
“opening the cage door does not necessarily imply
an escape..”

Charles Dickens’ semi-autobiographical novel follows
a vulnerable boy on his journey to manhood. It is
a story of struggle against poverty and obscurity:
a story of loss, loneliness, and the betrayal of
innocence.
Mad Dogs & Englishmen bring Dickens’ classic tale
to the stage with a twist and a flourish in their new
adaptation. Touring nationally as part of the Dickens
bicentennial, this fast-paced and dynamic production
is faithful to the book and captures all the hilarity and
pathos of Dickens’ writing. With a cast of two, this
will be an evening of pure theatre.

Kent based international touring company, European
Arts Co. is celebrating its 10th anniversary with a
national tour of Harold Pinter’s taut black comedies The
Dumb Waiter & The Lover as a double-bill.
The Dumb Waiter features two hit-men waiting to do a
job in a basement room, and the seemingly banal comic
banter of the two gangsters was clearly an influence on
Quentin Tarantino’s ‘Reservoir Dogs’ and ‘Pulp Fiction’,
as well as the recent British film ‘In Bruges’. The Lover
was first presented as a TV play in 1963 and later
adapted for the stage. It is a visually stunning, slightly
sinister and frequently hilarious take on the idea of an
open marriage. When first broadcast on television, the
head of Associated Rediffusion warned that it should
only be watched by ‘married couples’...
The aim of the company is to present ‘quirky classics’
in an imaginative and entertaining way, frequently
highlighting the comedy.

For the first time Trinity Theatre plays host to a major
Drum Clinic that showcases three world famous
drummers: Steve White (UK Independent), Darrin
Mooney (Primal Scream), Colin Woolway (Drumsense)
and introduces one of the best up-and-coming young
drummers, Mike Fox.
This is a unique event as it is rare to get three such
well-known, top drummers on the same local stage.
It’s designed to be suitable for all levels of ability,
so anyone with a passion for the drums will love
it. The clinic will demonstrate a broad spectrum of
techniques, styles and genres designed to educate
and inspire all drummers. Included in the programme
will be the chance to see and hear how the
professionals incorporate their skill and versatility.

EDge 2012
London School of Contemporary Dance

EDge features a new generation of the most promising
contemporary dancers performing commissions by exciting
young choreographers. Led by Artistic Director Jeanne Yasko,
EDge’s 2012 tour showcases performances by a strong and
diverse ensemble of 12 dancers.
New full length works by internationally acclaimed artists
Matthias Sperling (Canada/UK) and James Wilton (UK) will be
performed alongside a specially recreated work by Sasha
Waltz (Germany). The programme also includes ‘Alston Takes
Cover’, a joint commission by The Place and Dance Umbrella.
‘Alston Takes Cover’ features short works inspired by Richard
Alston’s iconic ‘Wildlife’ and is created by Tony Adigun and
Rachel Lopez de la Nieta.
This unique programme is filled with high-level energy and
technical excellence that pushes the performers to their limits

Jacqui Dankworth is considered to be “one of the
classiest acts in British jazz singing” (The Guardian).
Her highly acclaimed recordings to date have been
stylistically diverse, incorporating elements of folk,
blues and many other forms that have demonstrated her
superb skill as an eclectic songwriter.
Her latest album, ‘It Happens Quietly’, presents a
selection of lush, atmospheric orchestral arrangements in
collaboration with, and lovingly dedicated to, her father.

The Paul Dunton Orchestra’s unique style is described as
a breathtaking fusion of classical and popular music with

Goldie Reed has been performing with her 4-piece band
since late 2010, regularly appearing around the South
East. Influences include Alison Krauss, Robert Plant,

single ‘Please Don’t Share Your Kisses’ at the end of last
year, Tunbridge Wells rock act Intraverse made their debut

Lights! Camera! Action! Join local film makers at
Trinity for an experience unlike any other. We’ll take it
from the top as we guide the film makers of tomorrow
through their “Close-up’s!” This unique set of workshops
will encourage our budding directors to story board,
produce, direct and act in their own short film. You’ll
be guided through a hands-on-process of lighting and
sound as well as plot construction and framing. Finally,
your film will be edited and screened on Trinity Theatre’s
newly installed state of the art digital cinema screen!
All you need to do is “Know your lines, be on time, and

The Foundation is delighted to show work by artists from across

Natural Studies is an exploration of the science of natural forms. Inspired
by the notebooks of Leonardo da Vinci through to the fauna of Kent
and Sussex, Will Taylor’s drawings and prints draw you into a close-up

enlarged botanical and animal studies.

of new light and unseen compositions there is the chance to catch the
otherworldly.
