Environment is one of 8 components of
NEPAD
Designed to tackle Africa’s environmental
challenges –First Africa Framework on
Environment
Adopted in 2003 by 2nd AU Summit following
participatory and consultative process

AUC in collaboration with UNEP, AMCEN, GEF

sustainable development through sub-regional and regional environmental initiatives

required through RECs and Member States
• Regular reporting by member states
• Updates on EAP to include emerging and persistent
issues from outcomes of Rio+20

Recommendations (14th AMCEN Decision)
• Establishment of African Environment Partnership Platform
(AEPP) to coordinate, mobilise resources in support of EAP
implementation
