Advocates are involved in legislative updates, letter writing campaigns, accessibility and voting campaigns, “Meet the Candidates” events, attending local, state, and national conferences, and conducting professional workshops. Meetings are held monthly and are open to all people with disabilities. Cost for your first meeting is FREE. Community Access Unlimited | The CA [YOU] 21 CAU Member, Carol Petties, has truly made large efforts towards community integration, proud member of CAU. Elizabeth, NJ – September 1, 2015 – Carol Petties is a very passionate contributor to Community Access Unlimited. She began her career with CAU over ten years ago, starting as a volunteer. Carol extended her time with CAU when she began working for the chat center. She helps the organization in a variety of different areas from phone calls, secretarial assistance and more. Carol came to CAU from Teaneck, where she was living with her family. Carol now lives on her own at CAU Joelle program. Carol has a very deep love and care for CAU. She loves the ability to work with all the CAU staff, the members and the community outreach programs. Carol has been involved with and is a big advocate for are Helping Hands, Self-Advocacy Meetings, and Members Renewal Day, programs. For the past two years, Carol has received a Certificate of Appreciation for her time during Member Renewal Day. Carol spends a lot of time Monday evenings helping with Open House and she interviews a few of the candidates. In the next few months, Carol will be attending the PIP Conference. She is a monthly member of recreational events and some of her favorites are Halloween and Christmas Parties. The Monthly Event/Class Sign-Up Worksheet must be attached with payment. MEMBERS NON-MEMBERS 1) Contact your primary counselor or Program Assistant Director. 2) Check the availability of the event/class by calling (908)354-3040 and speaking to the Community Integration Coordinator Luis Ayala Ext.216 3) Fill out the Monthly Recreation Sign-Up Worksheet and show it to your primary counselor or Program Assistant Director, who will then register you for the events/classes you have paid for. 4) Complete the Monthly Event/Class Sign-Up Worksheet and return with payment to: Community Access Unlimited Attn: Recreation 80 West Grand Street Elizabeth, NJ 07202 *Please make a copy of both for your records* For all Non-Members the cost will be an additional fee for recreational events. 5) When attending a recreation event, please meet in the Chat Center (80 West Grand St., Elizabeth) thirty minutes prior to the event, unless otherwise instructed. If you are attending a class, please meet at the class location. 6) If you are unable to attend an event/class, notify the Recreation Department at least 10 business days in advance in order to receive a refund or credit. If the Recreation Department is NOT notified, no refund or credit will be provided. No refunds or credit will be given for events with pre-purchased tickets (ex: vacations, plays, sporting events, etc.) If you are interested in becoming a CAU Recreational Member please call for an application. Recreation membership is $300/year and gives you the Member price for all events.
