Mark’s Mark
Patrick Henry, a man of prominence during the American Revolution once said,
“This is all the inheritance I can give to my dear family. The religion of Christ can
give one which will make him rich indeed.” This man understood the importance
of Bible knowledge to the growth and maintenance of Christianity and general
society.
We just finished a wonderful gospel meeting last week with Orpheus Heyward.
His preaching gains its power by his simplicity of speech and his adherence to
Scripture. Much fruit of his gospel preaching has already been seen and will be
seen. This afternoon, many of our young people will be engaged in Bible Bowl to
show the fruits of their study over the past several months. The reason so many
people of our congregation work so hard in these endeavors is because they
understand the power of the gospel. It will turn sinners into saints, spiritual
novices to well seasoned Christians, and will in the Last Day judge each one of us.
Let’s each make a daily effort to learn what the bible says, to apply it to our
everyday lives, and to spread its influence to others. As Scripture says, "Your word,
O Lord, have I hidden in my heart that I may not sin against you" Psalm 119:11.
