They will be looking for community feedback in this planning process. Be on the lookout for a survey to voice your opinions. Protect your Investment Since you own the Golf Course and pay for it, protect your investment by keeping your dogs, bicycles and non-golfing children off of the course, by taking care of dents on the green with a divot repair tool (available in the score card box at the first tee) and by filling the huge rents in the turf on the tees using the repair mix available by almost every tee. The condition of the course affects its playability and YOUR PROPERTY VALUES. Remember that all garage bays but one must be used to park automobiles before any additional automobiles may be parked on your driveway. Landscape Committee - Sima Oppenheimer Tuesday September 25, 2012 Audrey, Sima & Jorge West Pool and front of Palacio: Remove the impatiens at the round planter and ready the area for pansies. Need to trim the palm fronds overhanging the tennis court. Irrigation at the entrance is being improved so that there will be less water runoff. Pansies to be planted first week in November. Thursday, October 18, 2012 Audrey, Sima & Jorge East Pool and drive around Palacio: Irrigation at entrance to east pool is being improved so that there will be less water runoff. The pots around the pool look very good. They are full and colorful. Grass area just to the east of the pool area is going to be replaced by plants. The children’s playground is looking good. Trees are healthy and have recovered. The benches need to be cleaned. Birds of Paradise and flax to be planted at the west entrance to the east greenbelt. The sycamore tree in front of the clubhouse needs to be trimmed. Plant of the Month – Pittosporum tenuifolium (Kohuhu) A beautiful, elegant, fast growing dense evergreen upright shrub or small tree that grows to 20 to 30 feet tall. It has glossy medium green oval slightly undulating leaves that are held on dark, nearly black stems. There is also a variegated variety. Plant in full sun or part shade with occasional watering. Hardy to 15–20º F. An excellent plant for hedging and shelter. NEW RULE REGARDING GUESTS JUST FOR THE FITNESS CENTER: Each resident household may have a maximum of TWO guests at any time using the fitness center. The guests must be accompanied by the resident. Changes made before receiving final ARC approval will result in a “Call to a Hearing Letter.” Applications for change are available by calling Mauzy Management at (888) 513-9945. Palacio Swimming Instruction and Teams Palacio offers a variety of tennis and swimming opportunities for youth and adults. Swim Team Meets every Monday and Wednes- day, 3:50-4:40 pm at the west pool. Coached by pro triathlete Rachel Challis. The cost per month is $80 for two days/week; $50 for one day/week. **NEW** Stroke Clinic: Monday & Wednesday 3:10 pm: 40 minute group lesson focusing on technique for all strokes while also working on physical conditioning. The Palacio Post November 2012 Page 4 Treasurer’s Report – John Walsh Total Assets as of August 31st were $1,073,219 compared to $1,072,334 on July 30th, 2012. August had a net surplus of $14,387 compared to a budgeted surplus of $12,512. Insurance and Facilities Maintenance/Repairs were below budget accounting for the overall favorableness from budget. Year to date we have a deficit of $30,659 compared to budget. Nearly half of that occurred from spending on the new display garden area by the tennis courts. Landscaping added $6k, Extra Golf Maintenance added $4k, Collection Expense added another $3k and miscellaneous added $4k. Money transferred to the reserves is for the replacement of major assets already acquired but eventually needing rehabilitation or total replacement. A good example would be expenditures to resurface the basketball court and the tennis courts. On August 31st, 2011, we had $861,422 in the reserves. Year to date we have added $93,388 and we have spent $15,749 leaving a balance on August 31st, 2012, of $939,061. using more lights and electricity. The celebration, also called Defuncts’ Day or Day of the Dead, is a time to commemorate the faithful departed. November 4, Sunday: Daylight Saving Time Ends: The main purpose of Daylight Saving Time is to make better use of daylight. We adjust our clocks forward during the summer months to move an hour of daylight from the morning to the evening. The Palacio Post November 2012 Page 5 Recipe: Savory Pumpkin Ginger Soup Ingredients: • 1 cup chopped onion • 2 tablespoons margarine or unsalted butter • 2 (14½ ounce) cans chicken broth • 1 (15 ounce) can pumpkin puree • 1 teaspoon salt • 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon • 1/8 teaspoon ground ginger • 1/8 teaspoon ground black pepper • 1 cup milk – may use soy or almond milk Directions: 1) Sauté chopped onions in butter in a medium saucepan until tender. Add 1 can chicken broth and stir well. Bring to a boil, cover, reduce heat and simmer 15 minutes. 2) Use an emersion blender in the saucepan or transfer broth mixture into the container of a blender or processor. Process until smooth. Return to saucepan if necessary. 3) Add remaining can of broth, pumpkin puree, salt, ground cinnamon, ground ginger and ground pepper; stir well. Bring to a boil, cover, reduce heat, and simmer 10 minutes, stirring occasionally. David Blinn can be reached at: (619) 579-9090 (work phone). 4) Stir in milk and heat through. Do not boil. Ladle into individual soup bowls. If desired, garnish with a swirl of Greek yogurt and/or a few very small bits of candied ginger. 4) Pour in the can of tomato sauce and bring to a boil. Dear Palacio Del Mar Residents, Below is a list of pertinent information regarding the transition from Waste Management to Tayman Industries: • • • • • • • • • Collection day will be on Wednesdays (trash, and recycling) Tayman’s 1st service will be Wednesday November 21st. On Thursday November 15th Waste Management will remove their recycle crates. Make sure to have your crates out for pickup on Thursday November 15th. This will be the last day for trash and recycle collection from Waste Management. On Friday November 16th, Tayman Industries will deliver (1) 64gallon trash toter and (1) 64 gallon recycle toter. On Friday November 16th, Tayman Industries will remove any unwanted resident owned trash cans. Please tape the attached “take me” letter to any unwanted trash cans, and Tayman will remove. Tayman Industries will issue each home a trash toter and recycle toter. The association has agreed upon the 64 gallon size. Should you require a larger or smaller container, Tayman is offering a one-time free exchange on Friday November 30th. Residents who wish to exchange bins for a different size must call our office at 858-453-8878 and get on the free exchange list by Monday November 26th. No delays in collection schedule on weeks with federal holidays (unless the holiday falls on a Wednesday, then collection will be suspended 1 day) Free cell phone and battery recycling. Simply place your batteries and old cell phones in an envelope and tape it to the top of the recycling container on any collection day. Residents may call Tayman Industries directly to schedule bulk item pickups such as couches, mattresses, furniture, appliances, etc. The cost is $35 for the first item, and $25 each additional item.
