President’s Message - June 20, 2015 First Friday has had great results. Sold out of all the bake sale items and had a lot of good conversations about the club. We want to thank John Haacke for allowing us to use his store front for these events. The swap was enjoyed by all. There were ten vendors present and all had fun sharing rock stories and learning from each other and from the visitors. We appreciate all who took time from their busy lives to attend. Thanks to Sue Ogden for all she does in publishing the Hourglass News and gaining recognition for the club within the Rocky Mountain Federation. Thanks to Teresa Rogge for publishing the web site and letting us be known world-wide. We are getting a lot of recognition and compliments. Thank you girls. Thanks to Mary Walters for the program about identifying rocks. She did an excellent job. (see photos page 9). Motion approved Submitted by Mary Walters, Secretary Who’s Doing What , When and Where ! Clockwise: John Haacke, Mary Walters, Leon Walters, John Worden, Van Rogge, Teresa Rogge, Stan Nowak by your Editor, Sue Ogden and various club members We had a “super” swap on June 5th with a vendor all the way from Mustang! Thanks also to the Stillwater club for their support at our swap. Our drop-in traffic was not as great as expected but with the weather FINALLY being sunny and DRY, I’m sure many people were out doing things they’d put off for several weeks. My personal hope is that with the same spot, same time of month, we’ll garner more and more “guests/shoppers” every year! It was great to see Aaron Van Dorn at the swap. He’s got some “fancy boots” and is toolin’ around in a wheelchair like a pro. He shopped too! Several club members set up “booths” on the picnic tables which worked out well - people could sit to shop! Bobett Larkey brought her camera and I’ll sprinkle her photos throughout this newsletter. She did a great job! We had some gorgeous rocks, cabs, crystals, trees, critters and jewelry! I think everyone had a wonderful time although it sure got hot after lunch!!! And speaking of that, our hot dogs and hamburgers were soooooo good! It’s been a while since I’ve had anything cooked over charcoal and for me it was especially good. Hear only good things about the food! Thanks to everyone for bringing goodies to share and thanks to Stan Nowak for grilling! Let’s all give a big thanks to our vendors at the swap! It’s a lot of work to get everything ready for a show or swap and the heat and humidity that day made it a real challenge! Vendors were (alphabetically): Lewis & Terrie Byfield; EGMS spinning wheel; John Haacke; Candy, William and Anna Kent; Stan & Judy Nowak, Lonnie Noyes & his lovely wife who’s name I failed to get; Sue Ogden; Van & Teresa Rogge, Elvin & Diana Whitehead and John & Faye Worden. Thanks to Mary Walters for her help setting up, tearing down and taking care of the mass of paperwork involved in putting on a swap. Sincere thanks also to Teresa Rogge for the VERY impressive signs she made especially for the swap. They were awesome! For anyone interested, Jewelry 1 01 for Kids classes are starting this week at the Rock Shop. They’ll be held Wednesdays and Fridays from 1-3 or 3:30-5:30. If you’re interested, February 2015 HOURGLASS NEWS Page 6 of 10 please give them a call at 580~237~8249 for more information or to sign-up. Classes are age appropriate! Sterling House has changed it’s name to Brookdale and Stan Nowak will be giving a talk about rocks and showing off some favorites on Saturday, July 19th at 2:30 PM. EGMS members are welcome to attend. July Program DVD “Black Opal: Guide to Buying, Cutting and Valuing” presented by Van Rogge with opals for viewing! If you have any opals you’d like to show off, please bring them! It’s a great opportunity for us to earn some moolah for our club, make new friends and recruit new members! If you like to bake or make candy, please bring a “dessert” of your choosing for the club to sell. We did well in June and hope to meet lots of prospective new members in July.
