RESPONSE CONSIDERATIONS
Staging Area
Ozello-John Brown Dr Airboat Sand Ramp (end of SR494, and nearby private boat ramps), Fort Island Gulf Beach Boat
Ramp (end of SR44), MacRae's of Homosassa Boat Ramp, Homosassa Springs Park, Riverhaven Marina and Boat Ramp
(end of SR490A/W Halls Rd)
Collection Points: Beaches without active shorebird nesting. Shallow water skimmers
Area Access:
Boat. Boom adjacent to shore should be accessed at high tides to prevent damage to resources from outboard motors.
Spill Risk:
Response Resources:
PROTECTION STRATEGY INFORMATION
Tidal Range (FT): 2
Average Current (KTS):
Ease of Protection:
Min. Boom Length (FT): 30800
Boom Type: hard
Booming Method: Protection/Exclusion
Protection Strategy:
Place Protection/Exclusion boom to encircle four largest keys: Northern Key (10000ft), Western Key (12000ft), Eastern
Key (8800ft) and protect bird rookeries, tidal wading and feeding areas. Four largest keys are the most used and
highest priority. If incident is isolated to a small geographic area any sensitive shoreline should be protected as best as
possible. If incident is offshore, best efforts should be made to contain spill with boom and skimmer.
