2010 Annual Meeting President’s Address
I would like to welcome each of you to the 2010 SCSRT annual meeting. This is your society and your
representation here is an indication that you are committed to improving and bettering the profession of radiological
technology. Thank you all for being here.
In 2007 when I became a board member I had no idea that I would be heading down the road to become the
president of this great organization. I am truly blessed however to be surrounded by such an extensive group of
individuals who have such extensive experienced. To give you an idea of that experience, sitting at this table you are
looking at a combined 199 years of radiological technology experience.
Twenty –five years ago I was working in a dental office, after having spent 1 ½ yrs at a four year college and
dropping out. One day my daddy looked at me and said if you are going back to school now would be a great time
because I am getting ready to retire. The choice was made about radiology after speaking to a few people in the field
and then my decision was made. I applied to Piedmont Technical College in 1985, under the instruction of Johnny
Moore and Joyce Agner (Hunter). In Jan 1987, I became an employer of Edgefield county hospital as a weekend call
student technologist and worked there until 1988. After graduation in 1987 I went to work at Aiken Regional and later
at Newberry Hospital. With 3 children I decided to finish my Bachelors at MUSC.
In 2004, I started teaching at PTC and later became the radiology clinical coordinator. Currently I teach the invasive
cardiology in the cardiovascular technology program at the Piedmont.
There are several people that I would never be able to repay for helping, driving and pushing me along the
way on this fantastic and rewarding journey. the good Lord , my family, Johnny Moore, Joyce Hunter, Lee Balentine,
Jerry Alewine just to name a few, and of course I want to mention my students and how very proud I am of the
professionals they have become.
I have come to realize after being on this board the enormous amount of dedication that it takes for each to
be involved especially the ones sitting before you at this table.
At this time, I also would like to mention all the folks that served on committees, would you please stand and
thank you for your hard work and dedication. Without all involved this would not be possible.
In the year to come I would like to challenge each of you to encourage other co- workers to join the SCSRT. I
really need you to understanding how important it is to keep this society thriving and working so that we have broad
support throughout the state. This is your organization, this is your voice to the state, and we represent you and your
profession.
We really need to work at keeping the membership up and I ask that each of you work on increasing our
membership numbers. Please visit the SCSRT website and share with co –workers.
Everything and everyone is trying to go green not only do we save trees but we also reduce cost by posting
information on this website. Reducing cost helps us to be more effective in bringing you not only latest but the best
information. Information and any answers to questions are posted on this website. We as board members have
worked diligently to update and post pertinent information. Please refer to this website and again share that
information with other professionals who have not yet joined the society.
Students, you are the future of the SCSRT. It will soon be your responsibility and dedication to step in and fill
the shoes of the ones you see before you now. Not just as students where an instructor has pushed and prodded you
to be here but as professionals who know and care. Could I please have the student members to stand?
I know that I am passionate about my profession and I can tell you that radiology has been good to me and
my family. This South Carolina Society of Radiological Technology is a vital part of our profession all of us need to
work hard to continue to move it forward.
In closing I wish to thank you for giving me this opportunity. Very special thanks to the board members and
especially John and Millie for answering so many of my questions and guiding me in the proper direction.
With your support we will continue to grow the society and the profession as a whole.

Aiken Technical College
Aiken Technical College Pinning Ceremony will be July 23 in the Auditorium on Campus. Students participated in Fundraising
activities this past year including a raffle for Gift Certificates for uniforms and a rummage sale. Nicole Ledesma-Dauer and Tracy
Chitwood were recipients of the Aiken Regional Medical Center Senior Radiology Scholarship. This was a full scholarship
paying for everything for their entire senior year including tuition, books, uniforms, and shoes. Tracy and Nicole were also the
Student Council Representatives for the SCSRT. Nicole took second place at the SCSRT Annual Meeting in the Scientific
Essay competition.

Class of 2011
This years first year student class began with 14 in the Fall of 2009 and are now at 11 remaining students. They have begun
fundraising with their first activity being a bowling tournament raising $400. They also have worked with the senior class on a
monthly Community Service Project making around 150 cards/tray favors for the Meals on Wheels program in Aiken. Four first
year students received Foundation scholarships for their senior year. They were Kimberly Jones, Patti Poole, Giang Phan and
Ashley Nance. Ashley Nance was also named Allied Health Student of the Year.
Anderson Hospital
AnMed Health
The time has finally come for our graduation from AnMed Heath’s Radiologic Technology Program! The past two
years have come and gone faster than we realized it would. On June 25, 2010, AnMed Health hosted the 62nd
graduation ceremony for 14 individuals who have shown much dedication and hard work since beginning the
program in July 2008.
The graduation ceremony waqs held in the afternoon in the auditorium of a local high school. Dr. Thomas Tuten, a
radiologist at AnMed Health, was the guest speaker as well as the class president and the class valedictorian. Dr.
Veena Mathur, our Medical Advisor, will present diplomas to the graduates. One of the most exciting parts of the
ceremony was the presentation of the awards. A reception, hosted by our Clinical Instructors, followed the
ceremony.
After graduation, some students hope to attend Radiation Therapy and Mammography programs. One student has
already been accepted into the Nuclear Medicine Program at Midlands Technical College in Columbia, SC. Several
will be eligible to receive an Associates degree from Greenville Technical College or Athens Technical College in
Athens, Georgia. The majority of the class hopes to stay local and work in the Anderson area or the northeast
Georgia area.
Florence Darlington Technical College
Spring was definitely in full bloom this past semester at FDTC! The juniors had a full schedule and the seniors were
getting closer and closer to graduation in May.
Even with all the hard work they had to do, they managed to spare some time for a little fun. On November
17th, Mr. Cummings gave a seminar at our school on Digital Radiography. Afterwards, the seniors hosted a
luncheon for the juniors and it was a great time for the two classes to do some bonding. We also had a great turnout
at the annual meeting from both the junior and the senior classes.
Our students had so much fun at the meeting and they even won battle of the schools, we are so proud of
them. The fun didn't stop there; on April 23rd the juniors threw the seniors a graduation party! They grilled
hamburgers and hotdogs and played some games. Everyone had a lot of fun! On May 7th, the seniors had their
pinning ceremony and they had a great turnout.
We are so proud of the senior class they graduated with 21 seniors. Congratulations class of 2010!!
Now the summer semester has arrived and the upcoming seniors have a full load of classes and clinicals.

Greenville Technical College
We are proud to announce the Greenville Tech Radiology Class of 2010. Our students celebrated our annual pinning
ceremony on Monday, May 10th and graduated on Tuesday, May 11th. This year we graduated 20 Radiologic
Technologists. Currently, all graduates that have taken their registry have passed. The Medical Imaging faculty at
GTC would like to wish all graduates from our state a successful and rewarding career.
Horry Georgetown Technical College
HGTC graduated 17 students on May 10, 2010. Currently we have 17 Senior students and a new group of 20 Junior students
that started in May.
The past year had been a very busy one with many fund raising activities for community projects and Recognition Ceremony.
Students gave time and effort in supporting Helping Hands and the Horry County Food Kitchen. They collected clothing and
household materials for a needy family in the area and also purchased new underwear and socks for the Conway Children’s
Home as these items are not allowed to be donated, but must be new.
Of interest is the fact that they chose “off season months” to supply donations when supplies tend to be low and the giving spirit
seems less.
All 17 seniors attended the conference and 1 junior. Our students won the “Students Helping Students” award again this year
and participated in the “Battle of the Schools”. A great time was had by all.
Midlands Technical College
What a great time we are having here at MTC! In addition to having a great time, we walked away with several
awards at the SCSRT meeting in Myrtle Beach in February this year. Casey Curtis- 3rd place Scientific Paper,

Congratulations everyone!
May brought Dr. Mulkey’s Annual Registry Review. Students from SC, NC, and Georgia attended this two-day
seminar at Lexington Medical Center on May 1st and 2nd. Both days were filled with loads of information to prep the
students for the registry as well as plenty of laughter from his crazy sense of humor! Our seniors graduated on May
4th with smiles on their faces and support from their families. We are so proud of each of them and wish them the
best!

Congratulations Graduates!
As the seniors graduate, the juniors are ready to move on up! We know they will do be great seniors!!!! Our rising

As summer approaches the students are gearing up for our annual trip to Camp Kemo, to help provide a great time
for kids with cancer. Our students have helped collect prizes for a carnival at the camp this year. Each of our clinical
sites worked hard to help us make this a special treat for the children. We can’t thank them enough! In June we will
head out to Riverbanks Zoo to tour the animal hospital. This always turns out to be a great opportunity for our
students to see how radiology is used in the zoo setting. It will be a great day and will help make a wonderful
summer!

Orangeburg Calhoun Technical College
The faculty and students of Orangeburg-Calhoun Technical College would like to send greetings to everyone.

In February our freshman and senior students attended the SCSRT Annual meeting and had a great time.
They participated in the battle of the schools and the RAD Tech Bowl. Also we had representatives on the student
council who worked with the Annual committee to make a great annual meeting. Thanks to everyone who made the
annual meeting a success. In March our seniors participating in a service learning project working with fifth graders
about the importance of safety in their daily activities and how radiology becomes involved if they become injured
during play.
The freshman students are excited about becoming seniors and the seniors are counting down until graduation which
will be July, 29, looking for jobs and anxious about taking the Registry. For the seniors it has been a long ride and
each have been challenged in some way or the other with reaching their graduation day.
Piedmont Technical College
The Class of 2010 is slated to be one of Piedmont Technical College’s largest graduating Radiology classes ever
with 18 students scheduled to graduate later this summer. With our diverse clinical setting, the students rotate
through Self Regional Healthcare in Greenwood, Newberry County Memorial Hospital, Laurens County Hospital,
Abbeville Area Medical Center, Lakelands Orthopedics, The Montgomery Center for Family Medicine, and Piedmont
Health Group, also located in Greenwood.
The senior class consists of 18 students, with 5 males and 13 females. The rising senior class consists of 16
individuals, all female. Five seniors have decided to advance their education and specialize; three in MRI, one in CT,
and one has already been accepted into a Radiation Therapy program in Charlotte NC. Graduation is set for August
12 and our senior penning ceremony is on August 6. There have been numerous fundraisers held to assist in paying
for state boards and the penning ceremony. The freshman class recently held a Pepsi fundraiser that raised $1300+,
to assist with expenses. The Rad Tech program is involved in community work; such as collecting canned goods,
sponsoring needy families at Christmas, and serving meals during the holiday season. During PTC’s Spring
Activities Day, the Rad Tech Team placed second, for the past two years. At this year’s SCSRT meeting in North
Myrtle Beach there was solid participation and an award was brought home for the “Peace, Love, and X-rays” t-shirt
that was designed by a senior.
Spartanburg Community College
Spartenburg Community College had twelve graduates in 2010.
Two of the graduates have been accepted into School for Radiation Therapy this fall.
We wish them all the best in their future endeavors.
Technical College of the Low Country

All second year students from the Technical College of the Lowcountry in Beaufort, SC attended the 24th
Student and Radiographers Seminar and Educators Conference in Atlanta, February 20 -23, 2010 in Atlanta.
Six members of the class of 2010 have been inducted into Lambda Nu, National Radiologic and Imaging
Sciences Honor Society, South Carolina Gamma Chapter. Those students are Keeley Braun, Daniel Hughes,
Brandon Fordham, Travis Moore, Kandis Atkins, and Dhrupal Bhenswala.
Graduation/Pinning for the class of 2010 is set for July 29, 2010 on the Beaufort Campus.
John Eichinger, Program Director for Radiologic Technology at the Technical College of the Lowcountry has recently
been elected to the Board of Directors of the Association of Educators in Imaging and Radiologic Sciences (AEIRS)
Trident Technical College
Trident Technical College graduated 23 Radiologic Technology students on May 7, 2010.

York Technical College
These pictures are of the food drive our students did Christmas 2010. They gathered over
1059 food items for donation to the Hope Harvest Food Bank of Chester County.
This was the largest donation in the Food Banks History!
York Technical College Radiology Program graduating seniors received several honors this year.
There were 11 graduates in May and among those, April Jewett received the Outstanding
Academic Achievement Award and four students were members of Lambda Nu, April Jewett,
Teri Belcher, Jessica Setzer and Jordan Ramsey. Jessica Setzer and Jordan Ramsey served
as members of the SCSRT student council as well.

Get YOUR Representative to Cosponsor the CARE Bill

The Consistency, Accuracy, Responsibility and Excellence (CARE) in Medical Imaging and Radiation
Therapy bill is due to be introduced in the House of Representatives by Congressman Charles Gonzalez
[D-TX-20] shortly following the convening of Congress after the Independence Day recess next week.
Mr. Gonzalez is a member of the House Energy and Commerce Committee and is a strong proponent of
quality health care - we are honored to have him agree to sponsor the bill.
It is now important that ASRT members contact their representative in the U.S. House of Representatives
and ask them to sign on as a cosponsor of the bill. It will only take a few minutes of your time; yet your
action will have a lifelong effect. It's simple and easy when you take advantage of the ASRT eAdvocacy

 First, read the "Featured Alert" and click the "Take Action" button to send an e-mail to your
representative directly from the site.
 Or, find your representative's Washington D.C. phone number by clicking the "Elected Officials"
tab on the site and entering your zip code. Then, call your representative and ask him or her to be a
cosponsor on the CARE bill.
 Ask your representative to contact Julie Hart (202-225-3236) in Rep. Gonzalez' office and sign up
to be a cosponsor of the CARE bill.
