Lyric Hammersmith
The Lyric Hammersmith was originally built as an intimate opera house in
1895 and has undergone major redevelopments over the years. Today, the
theatre presents 1000 performances a year that bring over 15,0000
people through its doors. A multi-million pound project has recently
kicked off to expand the current building to create new facilities for
training young people to become the theatre-makers of the future,
Hammersmith Apollo
The Hammersmith Apollo is a major entertainment venue in London,
which opened in 1932 as the Gaumont Palace cinema and was renamed
the Hammersmith Odeon in 1962. Many bands have released live CDs,
videos or DVDs of concerts held at the Apollo such as the Kings of Leon,
Sophie Ellis-Bextor, Robbie Williams and Kate Bush.
Hammersmith Bridge
Hammersmith Bridge was the first suspension bridge to be built over the
River Thames and nowadays allows traffic and pedestrians to cross the
river to Barnes in Richmond Upon Thames. The bridge has long suffered
structural problems and has been closed for lengthy periods of time in
the past.
Riverside Studios
Riverside Studios is a production studio, theatre and independent cinema
in Hammersmith which plays host to contemporary and international
dramatic and dance performance, film, visual art exhibitions and
television production. Some of its recent TV productions include The
Apprentice, Celebrity Juice and Russell Howard's Good News.
The Dove
A prime spot to watch the annual Boat Race, The Dove stands amid the
rowing clubs, dog-walkers and benches on the Upper Mall embankment
upriver from Hammersmith Bridge. It was once frequented by Charles II
and Nell Gwynn and is now enjoyed by drinkers who come to sit on the
riverside terrace overlooking the houseboats.
