Copland’s“OldAmericanSongs”andRandallThompson’s“ThePeaceableKingdom,”this
concertpromisestobeastirringtributetoDr.MartinLutherKing,Jr.
TheNewMexicoSymphonicChoruswillbedirectedbyRogerMelone.Performing
traditionalandcontemporarygospelmusicwillbetheEveningofEleganceEnsemble
directedbyDr.StevieSpringer.FeaturedgospelsoloistswillbeRosalindSandersJonesand
ToniMorgan.

AmericancomposerRandallThompson,whowasespeciallyinfluentialinchoralmusic
composition,wrote“ThePeaceableKingdom”in1936.Inspiredbyan1826paintingby
AmericanfolkartistEdwardHicks,ThompsonbasedhisworkontextsfromIsaiah.
