Doors By Decora was commissioned to design, build and
install this contemporary Cross
Window for an existing church
in rural Alabama.
The Leaded Glass was built using
over 30 different colors and textures of antique cathedral glass.
Over 700 pieces of glass were individually cut, fitted and leaded
together to build this window.
Because of the bright sunlight
coming through the window this
picture does not show all the detail and brilliance of the glass.
St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church

Doors By Decora designed, built and installed
Stained Glass Windows replacing the existing
windows in this old Catholic Church. The
Priest had a special request that the painted
medallion shown on the left be done of St.
Vincent de Paul to match an old picture from
his files.
The Priest (in his 90’s and still an avid golfer
and an active Priest) returned several years
later for us to build a “Cry Room” window
saying members had raised the money and
wanted the window made in “his memory” but
we decided to not rush things and the wording was changed to in “In Honor of Father
Lynch”.

When construction began on Young Meadows
Presbyterian Church in 1996, Doors By Decora was
contacted about designing and building the stained
glass windows for this church. The windows consisted of the 7 ft. X 24 ft. Cross Window behind the
choir loft. The window was constructed of over 500
pieces of glass that were individually cut, assembled,
and leaded together. Most of the pieces were also
hand painted for detail and to give shading to look
old and had to be fired in a kiln. The window had to
be designed and built to be backlit since it is not on
an outside wall.
There were also 2 ft. X 14 ft. windows (one in a
stairwell and the other in a classroom) that required
special consideration in lighting so that they did not
show shadows from the outside.
The 7 ft. rose window pictured below is installed in
a small mechanical room which required lighting
that would not show shadows from pipes and the air
conditioner.

St. Paul’s Episcopal Church was founded in 1838. The stained glass
windows in the sanctuary of this historic church were built by some
of the major stained glass companies of the 19th Century including one
built by Tiffany Studios of New York. The windows shown here were
designed, built and installed by Doors By Decora in conjunction with
Lay Leader James Hammond. Doors By Decora also built custom mahogany frames to use to install these Gothic arch windows in existing
rectangular window openings in the church offices. Doors By Decora
also built custom mahogany doors to replace all the interior doors in
the church.

This small church of less than 200 members asked members to donate windows “in memory of” a loved one to
replace the existing windows in 1995. We built Mahogany
Sashes, Stained Glass Windows, Church Doors, and Installed them. To help keep the cost down we supervised
volunteer labor from the church who tore out the old
windows. Later we designed and built the doors pictured
below for this church. In 2008 this church had grown and
built a new sanctuary and we built stained glass windows
and doors for this building (not pictured).

In 1994 Doors By Decora was commissioned to design, build and install replacement stained glass windows for the First
Baptist Church of Brewton, Alabama.
Pictured to the right is one of the new
windows and a “Before” picture. We also
built, finished and installed new mahogany
front doors for the church.
In 2000 the church built a new fellowship
hall and pictured at the lower right is one
of the stained glass windows we built for
it. We also built and installed all of the
Mahogany exterior church doors for the
new fellowship hall. Below is a picture of
the front door and transom to the fellowship hall.

Headland United Methodist Church commissioned us to design and build
Stained Glass Windows to replace the existing iron roll out windows in the
Church. Pictured are 2 of the windows one with a painted medallion of a
Christian Symbol and the other showing a picture of the “Empty Tomb”.
There is also a close up shot of Jesus at Gethsemane.
The Gothic Transom shows “The Last Supper”.
The old window frames had to be cut out with torches and we built and
installed bronze anodized frames for the new stained glass and installed
Lexan on the outsides to protect them from vandalism. The church raised
the money for the windows by allowing members to order windows “In
Memory of a loved one”. The response was very successful and they not
only raised enough money for the project but also for new windows for the
choir room.

Burkeville United Methodist Church

In 1985 General Electric bought the old Burkeville United Methodist
Church building and property. When they relocated, Doors By Decora
was commissioned to design, build and install stained glass windows
for the new building. This small church had a very limited budget and
Doors By Decora’s owner donated the window in the Prayer Room in
memory of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Edwin H. Jones of Elba, Alabama
both of whom had recently passed away. This was one of our first
church jobs and even the owners wife, Marcy Jones, helped by cleaning
the windows as they were installed. You can read the letter at the bottom of the page to see what this customer had to say about us by going

Church Stained Glass
One of the fun things about Doors by Decora is the interesting
relationship we have been able to form through the years. We were
contacted in the 80’s by Rev. O. L. Stokes, pastor of First Assembly
of God Church in Tifton, Georgia. He wanted us to build a stained
glass window he had designed for the vestibule in his church. This
window was to be on an interior wall and had to be backlit. When we
arrived to install the window we found out that not only did he design
the glass but made the modifications to the building to accommodate
the window.

First Assembly of God Church was started in a tobacco warehouse in Tifton, Georgia. Brother Stokes took over as Pastor in
1961. He always had interesting ideas such as the Childrens Education Building below built like Noah’s Ark. Once again Bros.
Stokes commissioned us to build this stained glass window that
he designed. Pictured with his hand on the window to the left
is Bros. Stokes. In the lower pictures from the left are the owners wife, Marcy Jones, his nephew and first employee Troy King
who is now Attorney General for the State of Alabama, and his
son and now VP of Marketing J.K. Jones.
Brother Stokes retired after 32 years but has continued to keep in
touch with us and bring us new projects.
