Shorts, tank tops, low cut, backless and mini-dresses, halters, bared midriffs, tight-fitting clothes, etc. do not meet the norm of Christian modesty and of respect, especially in church. Your cooperation is evidence of your love for our Lord in the Blessed Sacrament and for His Holy Mother Mary. Thank you! Prayer to St. Lawrence O Generous patron of the Church’s poor, St. Lawrence, pray to the One God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit that all the poor of the Church in need in every corner of the world may feel the effect of the love of their brothers and sisters who seek to help them. Deliver the Church from the greed and envy of the powerful and protect her rights and property so that she may serve the needy in freedom, giving them good things for soul and body. May we come some day with all those whom we helped on earth to the bright mansions of heaven where we will enjoy the riches of God’s house and the company of the Savior who lives and reigns forever and ever. JOHN CANTIUS BENEFIT BOOKLET The Canons Regular of St John Cantius, formed 13 years ago, is a religious community of men dedicated to “the restoration of the sacred” and in full communion with the Vatican. It is a unique oasis of spirituality in today’s hectic world. As the community continues to grow, their financial needs also increase. Among the various fiscal demands are the rising costs of health and life ins. and the education expenses for the brothers of the community. This year they are also continuing the restoration of their former convent to be used as a residence by the everincreasing numbers of men entering the Canons Regular. Your generosity will assist them in meeting these rising costs, and enable them to continue their service. The Canons Regular will hold their annual benefit dinner on Sept 18th (see above). This is the major fundraising event for the Cantians. As part of their program, they publish an advertising sponsors’ booklet. Would you be willing to purchase an ad in their Benefit Ad Booklet, which will be distributed to the many individuals who attend their dinner? In addition to the ad book, they will also mention your sponsorship in their Sunday bulletin and make the ad books available in the church during their five weekend Masses. If interested, there are Benefit Booklet Advertising Contracts in the vestibule. AUGUST 7, 2011 page 5 PROPERS FOR AUGUST 7—NINETEENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME (OF) Introit—Remember, O Lord, your covenant, and do not abandon for ever the souls of your poor; arise, O Lord and judge your own cause; forget not the cries of those who seek you. O God, why have you cast us off unto the end; why is your wrath enkindled against the sheep of your pasture? Gradual—Keep me, O Lord, as the apple of your eye; shield me under the shadow of your wings. Let judgment in my favour come forth from your presence; may your eyes discern what is right. Alleluia—O Lord you have been unto us a refuge from age to age. Offertory—In you have I put my trust, O Lord; I said: “You are my God, my destiny is in your hands.” Communion—The bread which I will give is my flesh for the life of the world. Dear Prospective Catechism Parents: Registration will take place the weekends of August 20/21 and 27/28. You must already be a registered member of St. Peter Parish. If your child was not baptized at St. Peter’s Parish in Volo, the parents must submit a copy of the child’s Baptismal Certificate with original signature and parish seal at the time of registration. If the child was baptized at St. Peter’s, this can be noted on the registration form. Classes will begin September 11. The class size will be limited to 20 students each class so registration will be on a first come first serve basis. Watch the bulletin for further details. PROLIFE MEETING There is a Prolife meeting on Tuesday, August 9, at 7:00 p.m. in the school. KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS ROSARY The Knights of Columbus pray the Rosary every Sunday after the 9:30 a.m. Mass. JOHN CANTIUS PICNIC The St. John Cantius Picnic is Sunday, August 21. Music by the West End Jazz Band. Everyone is invited. ROSA MYSTICA CHOIR Chorus Rosa Mystica will take the month of August off of practices and singing at Mass, and resume practice on Sunday, September 11 at 5:00 p.m.. ST. CLARE OF ASSISI For Healing O Blessed Saint Clare, your life shines like a beacon and cast its light down the ages of the Church to guide the way of Christ. Look with compassion on the poor and humble who call on you for help. As you bow before your Eucharistic Lord in Heaven, speak to Him of my afflicted body and my broken spirit. Ask Him to heal me and to wash away my sins in His precious Blood. Great Servant of Christ, remember the needs of my family and all those I pray for. Defend us from everything that would threaten our Holy Catholic faith. Hear the cry of the poor and make it a song of intercession, rising from your poor heart to the Eucharistic Heart of Jesus, our Healer, our Saviour, and our Lord.
