What Does the CCI Protection Plan Cover?
All CCI Laptops come with a comprehensive CCI Protection Plan that exceeds the coverage available under standard homeowners
insurance and your manufacturer’s warranty. This protection plan covers theft, accidental damage and damage from a power surge,
fire or natural disaster while in the US, Canada, and Puerto Rico. Your policies include a low $100 deductible per incident.
For ThinkPad packages, this coverage is provided by combining accidental damage coverage from Lenovo called ThinkPad Protection with
insurance coverage from Safeware.
For MacBook Pro packages, all coverage including accidental damage is provided by Safeware.
When should I place my
order for a CCI Laptop?
Submit your order by May 15 and your laptop will be
waiting for you at your summer orientation session
(CTOPS/TSOP). Students admitted after May 15 should
order as soon as possible.

Grant from the University
The University has committed funds to make sure that students who
are enrolling at Carolina for the first time and who have applied for
financial aid by the deadline are eligible to receive a CCI Laptop grant.
The College Board CSS PROFILE, which is used to apply for financial
aid, also serves as your application for a laptop grant. For more
information, please visit cci.unc.edu/laptop-grant. The amount
of the grant will vary depending on the individual student's documented
need, but every student with financial aid will receive help in purchasing a standard CCI Laptop. Many will qualify to receive a
full grant, making the ThinkPad T430 absolutely free. Those who qualify for a laptop grant will be notified by late April or after being
admitted. Laptop grants will be awarded in the form of a credit valid only at UNC Student Stores toward the purchase of a CCI
Laptop package, including software, security lock, and four years of insurance coverage. No cash will be given. You are responsible
for the cost of any optional accessories, such as a printer, backpack, or external mouse.
While a laptop grant from the University can be combined with additional funds to purchase a more expensive CCI Laptop
package, please be aware that should you leave the University prior to graduation, you will be required either to pay back
the grant and keep the laptop or to return the laptop and lose your additional investment.
What if I don’t buy a laptop through CCI?
Please note that, while students are not required to purchase a CCI Laptop, students are required to have a laptop that meets the minimum
requirements specified. See cci.unc.edu/new-students/minimum-laptop-requirement. Software and operating system support for
non-CCI laptops is on a best-effort basis. Hardware support for non-CCI laptops is the responsibility of the owner. Loaners are only available
to students who purchase a CCI Laptop through UNC Student Stores.
