Who are we?
.
.
.
.
.
Escape Rentals Limited is a privately owned company.
We are 100% proudly Kiwi.
We now operate over 200 campers in New Zealand and nearly 300 in the USA.
We have depots centrally located in Auckland (just 5 minutes walk from the
city centre) and Christchurch (15 minutes walk from the city centre). Alternative
drop off destinations such as Queenstown and Wellington may be available on
request.
Escape Campervans’ are Qualmark assessed and certified (Qualmark is New
Zealand’s leading independent quality assurance agency).

... and what are we like?
.
.
.
.
.
.
Proud and personable!
Our staff love New Zealand and we love Escape...
who wouldn’t?
We use the services of 4 dedicated graffiti artists
to paint our vehicles, including the winner of the
“2008 World Graffiti Championship” (Yes, there
really is such a championship!)
Our service levels are recognised as ‘best
in practice’ including our 24 hour Roadside
Assistance programme.
We’ve been profiled on various travel shows,
including BBC, Lonely Planet and even ‘An Idiot
Abroad’ (love Karl Pilkington)
Our passenger satisfaction ratings are superb!
Escape Rentals is consistently among the
highest ranking budget campervan on the
independent website
‘www.rankers.co.nz’
We are committed to surpassing our hirer’s
expectations!

New For Escape –
Certified Self-Contained Campervans
New for 2015/16, Escape is pleased to announce that we have a range of selfcontained campervans available for hire. These vans are certified self-contained
which means they feature a chemical toilet and additional water storage tanks.
They are the same layout as all of our other Escape Campervans, but they are
also amongst the newest of our fleet.
In New Zealand, self-contained campervans are able to park at additional
campgrounds if they are certified as self-contained (which ours are). Realistically
however, there’s over 6,000 campgrounds throughout New Zealand, so whichever
Escape van your client chooses, they will have plenty of camping options available.
As such, Escape does not recommend freedom camping when there are so many
great camping spots out there.
Self-contained campervans are available for an additional $20 per day (Summer)
or $29 per day (Winter) – subject to availability.

Hugo Campervans
Escape also operates a small fleet of older, more basic campervans, ideal for
those travelling on a budget.
Check out www.hugorentals.co.nz
A few things you need to know about Hugo before booking:
.
.
..
.
.
.
..
Hugo vans are old …very old with high mileage. Hugo says: ‘If Hugo van not up to
standard, please lower standard.’
They have been regularly serviced however and are still covered by our 24 Roadside assistance programme.
They are NOT Qualmark certified.
They feature a queen-sized bed, a kitchenette and a radio…and that’s about it.
There are next-to-no inclusions, so hirers have to bring their own equipment or they
can hire it from us (kitchen packs, bedroom packs etc.)
They are cheap….very cheap. Hugo Campervans can be as low as $15 per day during
winter and up to $69 per day during the peak of summer.
As such, they are an ideal alternative to buying a van (and the risks associated with
that!) Hugo is ideal for that long hire over summer because your client get a cheap
campervan and the peace of mind of 24 hour on-the-road support.
Insurance for Hugo is the same price and conditions as Escape Campervans.
Hugo commission to agents is capped at 10-15%. Contact your Escape Representative
to discuss.

Insurance
Escape Campervans insurance is comprehensive, great value and easy to understand.
Standard insurance is included in the daily rate, so there really are no hidden
costs. However, hirers will be liable for any damage that may occur to the
vehicle whilst it is on hire. This is capped though and the maximum liability* is
$3,000. Many of our hirers choose to take out ‘excess waiver insurance’ which
can reduce the maximum liability right down to nil (again, dependent on your
age and the insurance option taken).
Remember, this is completely optional. Check out the three options within the
table below and choose the one that is best for you.

manner which is outside the agreed terms of our contract e.g. Drunk driving, negligence
leading to loss etc. In such instances, the hirers can be held liable for all costs
associated with any accident or loss.
• ‘Vehicle Roll’ Clause. All insurance is waived/void if a van has been rolled in a single
vehicle incident (side, roof or chassis damage). I.e. Hirer is fully liable for all costs
irrespective of insurance option taken if van has been rolled.

Important stuff!
One way hires
One way hires between our depots are permitted.
There is a one way hire fee of $300 which may be waived depending on the hire
(length of hire, direction etc) so please contact us to find out more.
Pick up and drop off times:
Our depots are open between 9am to 4pm Monday to Friday, 9am to 3pm
Saturday and Sunday and 9.30am to 2pm on Public holidays.
After hours or drop offs may be possible subject to approval and there is a cost
associated with this service ($125 - $175).
We recommend our campervan drivers spend the first night in a hostel before
collecting their vehicle, particularly after a long flight. This is safer and this also
limits any issues that may arise from late flights or missed connections.
Because of the time associated with grooming a vehicle for the next hire, Escape
Rentals expects all drop-offs to be by 2:00pm on the day of return, or earlier.
We are open every day except Christmas Day and 01 January.
Auckland and Christchurch Depots
Depot Location:
Our Auckland and Christchurch depots are centrally located.
Depot addresses:
Auckland:
61 The Strand, Parnell, Auckland Central.
Christchurch: 15 Kingsley Street, Sydenham, Christchurch.

More important stuff!
Wellington and Queenstown Depots
Escape Rentals also operate remote depots in Wellington and Queenstown during our
off peak season (approx April – November). Use of these depots is subject to approval,
availability and additional fees:
•$800 Additional fee for pick-ups or drop-offs in Wellington
•$900 Additional fee for pick-ups or drop-offs in Queenstown
All of these fees may be waived or reduced subject to the timing or length of the hire.
Please contact us for more information.
Use of these depots are subject to availability.
Cancellations
Once Escape Campers has confirmed a booking and the hirer has paid a deposit, that
booking is subject to the following cancellation policy:
.
.
.
.
.
If the reservation is cancelled more than 22 days before your scheduled pick up date, we will
refund the deposit in full.
If the reservation is cancelled between 7 and 21 days before the scheduled pick up date, there
will be a charge of $300 (loss of deposit) or 20% of the total hire cost, whichever is higher.
If the reservation is cancelled between 1 and 6 days before the scheduled pick up date, there
will be a charge of 50% of the total gross rental cost.
If the reservation is cancelled on day of pick up, or the customer ‘no-show’s, then you will be
charged 100% of your gross rental cost.
There is no refund for early vehicle returns.
Drivers Licenses:
To hire an Escape Campervan, drivers need to be at least 18 years of age. We accept
international driver’s licenses and any current (and full) English language license (UK,
USA, Australia etc.)
If your clients don’t have either an international driver’s license or an English
language license, they will need to arrange to get their existing license translated.
We recommend Transnational for NZ certified translations. Contact them on www.
transnational-ltd.co.nz and they will arrange to get the license translated and sent
back to the driver via email for a pretty reasonable fee. They even offer an urgent
service which will get this sorted for the driver within a couple of hours (although it’s
cheaper if it’s not urgent, so it’s probably a good idea to get this sorted before they
arrive). Please note…We DO NOT accept provisional or learner licenses.
Remember, Escape Campers doesn’t charge any extra for additional drivers.

Even more important stuff!
Transmissions (automatic or manual)
We have both manual and automatic transmission campervans on our fleet. Let
us know if your customers have a preference and we’ll do our best to allocate it.
To guarantee receiving a particular transmission campervan, there is a $10 per
day option to do this at the time of booking. We only collect a maximum of $200
for the entire rental in respect to either guarantee.
Minimum Rental Periods
Summer (Travelling 01 October to 30 April): 7 Days.
Winter (Travelling 01 May to 30 September): 7 Days if insurance is purchased.
10 Days if no insurance is purchased.
Minimum one way hire between Auckland and Christchurch (or Christchurch and
Auckland) is 14 Days – We want our hirers to be safe - No rush! :)
Accounts Information:
Escape Rentals is easy to book. Simply take the hirers deposit as per your
agreed commission (based on the daily hire rate only – all other items are noncommissionable) and we will collect the balance upon pick up.
Credit is available upon application, subject to criteria.
