You’re all invited to Come Dream With Us during a three-day DreamMore Resort Takeover at all of our properties! Here’s what you need to know to be part of the Takeover: •This fun-filled event starts Saturday, Aug. 30 (TOMORROW), and continues through Monday, Sept. 1, from open to close. •All Hosts can wear their exclusive you-can’t-buy-it-anywhere Dollywood’s DreamMore Resort t-shirt as part of their costume during the three-day takeover event. (Please check with your Team Lead for details about costume guidelines.) Because a clean and tidy uniform is required to deliver a quality experience for our Guests, please make sure your t-shirt is laundered each night. If time doesn’t allow for you to launder your t-shirt each night, please wear your regular uniform to ensure everyone looks fresh and tidy for Sunday and Monday. •All Hosts also receive an exclusive Dollywood’s DreamMore Resort button. Your button should be worn with your regular costume (not with your DreamMore Resort t-shirt.) But please remember to wear your button for the remainder of the season! •Hosts at all three properties receive a commemorative DreamMore Resort gift as they enter work on Saturday which features several resort details Hosts will want to know. Dollywood Hosts will be welcomed at Post 2 and Dollywood’s Splash Country Hosts will be greeted as they enter the Park. Dollywood Cabins Hosts can stop by their main office. •Our Takeover includes the Host Lounge, too. Stop by to enjoy Dollywood’s DreamMore Resort’s signature pink lemonade and another special treat served between 11 a.m.- 2 p.m. Hosts also can register to win a one-night stay at Dollywood’s DreamMore Resort in the Host Lounge or the main office at Dollywood’s Splash Country or Dollywood Cabins (during regular operating hours at all locations). The winner will be drawn on Tuesday, Sept. 2. •We also want to invite our Guests to Come Dream With Us during this fun event! If a Guest comments on your t-shirt or button, take a moment to invite them to visit the Dollywood’s DreamMore Resort Preview Center on Showstreet. When Guests share their dreams with our visiting artist, he’ll capture them in a quick sketch which Guests can pose with and post on social media platforms for friends and family to enjoy. Plus, Guests who join our Founders Club receive a special gift and are registered to win a two-night stay at Dollywood’s DreamMore Resort. The Gem Tones will stop by for special dream-themed performances. •The Dream Team will move throughout the Park distributing special DreamMore Resort items to our Guests because we want them all to be our biggest “fans.” If you notice them, invite Guests to the Preview Center for more information or make sure you invite them to visit the resort when it opens in summer 2015. •Always keep your Host Reference Guide handy but especially during the Takeover. Members of the Dream Team will be looking for Hosts who can answer questions about the resort—and all of the answers are found in your Host Reference Guide so GET YOUR GUIDE ON! Love every moment August 29, 2014 1 Questions and Answers about Dollywood’s DreamMore Resort We always want to serve Guests to the best of our abilities. One thing we can do to help our Guests is to answer their questions with accurate information. As progress continues on Dollywood’s DreamMore Resort, Guests may ask you specific questions about the project. Please be familiar with this information so you can provide accurate details about the resort. Q: When does Dollywood’s DreamMore Resort open? Summer 2015. The construction process for Dollywood’s DreamMore Resort is huge in scope, much greater than anything we’ve ever built on our Dollywood property. We’re pleased to announce that progress continues on Veterans Boulevard, and DreamMore Resort is scheduled to open on time next summer. We’re proud of our progress and don’t anticipate any delays. However, any information of this nature would be communicated directly to our Hosts from the resort’s management team. We never want our Hosts to rely on speculation or hearsay to keep our Guests informed. As always, please remind our Guests that we look forward to hosting them at Dollywood’s DreamMore Resort when we open in summer 2015. DreamMoreResort.com is the best source of the most up-to-date information regarding all areas of the resort and its schedule. Q: Where is Dollywood’s DreamMore Resort located? Just beyond Dollywood’s Splash Country on Veterans Blvd. Q: How many rooms are in Dollywood’s DreamMore Resort? 307 Q: Why is Dolly building Dollywood’s DreamMore Resort? Dolly has always wanted to give back to this area. It was part of her dream from the very beginning—to build a theme park with a resort—so families could come together and share her home, the beautiful Smoky Mountains. Not only will the resort create more jobs, it also will appeal to families searching for a special place to reconnect and unwind. Q: How do I make a reservation? You can’t now, but DreamMoreResort.com is the best place for updates as information becomes available. At the website you can provide contact information to receive the most up-to-date information as more details about the resort become available. Q: When can I make a reservation? You can’t now, but DreamMoreResort.com is the best place for updates as information becomes available. Guests can also join our Founders Club at the website and receive updates about the resort. Q: Will my stay include Dollywood and Dollywood’s Splash Country admission? We certainly will offer a variety of different packaging options which will include admission to our Parks. Q: Will transportation be provided? DreamMore Resort Guests will receive complimentary transportation to Dollywood and Dollywood’s Splash Country. Q: What type of options and amenities will be available? Resort Guests will receive complimentary transportation to Dollywood and Dollywood’s Splash Country. It will have two pools—indoor and outdoor—plus a fitness center and a family fun zone where families can play together. One unique feature of the resort will be its outdoor family exploration areas. In these areas Guests will enjoy family sanctuaries that offer fire pits for s’mores roasting, firefly chasing, hammocks for relaxing, ample storytelling spots scattered around the grounds and an event lawn. Q: Do season passholders get a discount? We hope to provide special offers to our season passholder family. However, please understand season passholder perks provided at Dollywood and Dollywood’s Splash Country are not valid at DreamMore Resort. Q: Is it going to cost more to visit Dollywood now that you’re building the resort? No. Q: Will traffic get worse? City and county leaders are aware of the traffic issues and are working together to create the best circumstances possible in our popular tourist destination. Q: How does this affect Dollywood Cabins? Our cabins are still available for booking and offer a unique experience. We are pleased to offer a variety of accommodations to meet the needs of our Guests. Guests may have other questions about Dollywood’s DreamMore Resort to which we don’t know the answer. With a project of this scope, this is certainly understandable. Please let our Guests know we’ll communicate more details as they become available. We want to provide the most accurate information possible but, sometimes, we just don’t have the answers. Rather than speculate, please remind our Guests about the resort website, DreamMoreResort.com. Inform them that we will update the website as additional details about the resort are revealed. Due to the nature of this project, details change frequently. It is our goal to share updates as soon as possible with our Hosts to keep you informed. SAFE Y Matters Be Safe Near Heavy Equipment With The National Southern Gospel & Harvest Celebration and Smoky Mountain Christmas quickly approaching, M&C, Special Events, and other teams are working feverishly to complete projects throughout the park on our closed days each week. Some of the work requires excavators, forklifts, dump trucks, aerial lifts, cranes, and other large equipment to be on park. If at all possible, please avoid areas where these projects are taking place. If that is not possible, the following tips will help keep you safe: • Never cross into an area that is roped off or taped off without first getting approval from the team responsible for the work being done. • You must wear appropriate personal protection equipment when entering areas where work is being performed. • When walking near machinery or vehicles on park, stay at least 50 ft. away until you make eye contact with the operator and wait for them to signal it is safe to pass. Never assume that they know that you are there. August 29, 2014 3 Grand Champions Gem Tones (Justin Bowles, Nathan Forshey, Amber Hancock, Austin Hux, Bethany Polinkas, Raymond Wolfe) June 2014 Blue Ribbon Winners Entertainment Performers On June 13, I was serving as our team’s PIC and decided to watch the Gem Tones perform the national anthem. After another sterling performance, the group was made aware of a young girl who was celebrating her birthday at Dollywood that day. Without missing a beat, the Gem Tones jumped into action, serenading the young lady with a special birthday song! What a nice moment for our Guests to see before the Park even opened. This group continues to be great ambassadors for this company, and I am extremely proud of them. Nominated by: Justin Bradley 4 Love every moment Carlie Russell June 2014 Blue Ribbon Winner Merchandise & Games Team Breaker Host at Coaster Games Games are one of the most aptly named divisions at Dollywood. For we live and die on two basic principles: (1) Our ability to work together and succeed as a team; and (2) our ability to ensure our players are having the time of their lives. Today, I would like to nominate a true team player, Games Breaker Carlie Russell. Every so often in Games, something goes wrong. Whether it’s a bill accepter gone haywire, or a water gun that just won’t squirt, eventually the inevitable happens. Then there are times when a game goes just about as far south as possible. Such was the case on Monday, June 16, when our newest addition, Balloon Pop, completely failed due to several jammed air valves. This failure would have not only resulted in lost revenue, but would have disappointed the countless young faces who patronize this child-friendly game. This would not do for Carlie, who, game face on, stepped up to the plate, inflated and tied (by hand) several hundred balloons; all while attending to her daily duties. Carlie saved the day at Balloon Pop, but that’s not the only thing that makes her an MVP. Those who know her best would testify that she’s the first to step into the game when we’re a player down, or that her positive attitude and infectious team spirit have created numerous emotional connections with Guests and Hosts alike. Nominated by: Jonathan Stokely, Coaster Games Team Lead Betty Rowe Glenn Brown July 2014 Blue Ribbon Winner July 2014 Blue Ribbon Winner Over the last several months it’s been a pleasure to work with Betty Rowe in the Benefits Administrator position. She is dedicated to serving our Hosts and focuses her efforts towards “Being a Great Place to Work for Great People” on a daily basis. One specific example of how she goes above and beyond occurred in January. A long-term Host fell, broke an arm, and needed to go on FMLA. For several weeks, Betty followed up with the Host by making house visits, phone calls and assisted with ensuring the necessary paperwork was completed by all the deadlines. Throughout the course of the Host’s recovery period, Betty was great about making house visits and even took some personal time to drive the Host to and from doctors’ visits. In addition to supporting our Hosts with their daily benefit needs, Betty has single-handedly ensured people are given their benefit paperwork in a timely manner, know about Profit Sharing options, and are issued Service Award recognitions in a timely manner. We are lucky to have Betty serving our Hosts with their benefit needs. Nominated by: Sarai Henning & Tim Berry During Great American Summer, Glenn Brown went above and beyond his everyday technical duties. Glenn has been foregoing his usual breaks due to the addition of Storytelling with Miss Lillian, which runs between each Country Crossroads performance. While juggling these shows, he also has been in a constant state of re-blocks for the past month, with sound cues changing almost every show. Glenn has kept a positive attitude and worked tirelessly to keep the shows up to the standard of excellence our Guests have come to expect. Nominated by: Paige Bales Human Resources Benefits Administrator Entertainment Sound Tech August 29, 2014 5 Jack and Pete Herschend Scholarship Program Record number of applicants. Record amount given. Record number of awards. In 2014, with 140 applications coming from across HFE, SIF will provide a record of more than $80,000 in scholarship award to 34 recipients. Four of our scholarship recipients earned the NEW part-time scholarship, designed to help students trying to balance work and/or family with the desire to continue their education. Since the first scholarship awards were presented in 2011, Share It Forward has given more than a quarter of a million dollars in scholarships thanks to the generosity of employees, HFE Corporation, and the Herschend Family! Love is a verb because of you. SIF recognizes your continued action in giving to the many programs that support the HFE family including the Jack and Peter Herschend Share It Forward Scholarships. Join us in congratulating the 2014 Scholarship Recipients and help us cheer them on to greater dreams, brighter futures and enriched lives! “Let’s not merely say that we love each other; let us show the truth by our actions.” 1 John 3:18 NLT And now, meet the Dollywood recipients… Justin Boling Justin, 19, will begin his sophomore year this fall at the University of Tennessee/Knoxville. Jeremy Long Benjamin Settlemyre Jeremy, 22, attends the University of Tennessee, Knoxville where he’ll be a senior this fall. Majoring in Hospitality and Tourism Management with a minor in Business Administration, he hopes to use his degree to one day move up into upper management at HFE and help create memories worth repeating. “I chose this major because I grew up visiting theme parks and other tourist attractions with my family. I always loved our memories and the excitement I felt visiting a new place,” shares Jeremy. “I knew that this was something I wanted to do with my life. I’m really honored to receive this scholarship my senior year… it will greatly lighten my load this last year of school.” A Host at Dollywood for four years, Jeremy is an Attractions Team Lead at SkyZip. Benjamin, 27, will be a senior this fall when he heads back to Johnson University where he’s in the honors program as a History major. “This scholarship is a blessing to me and my wife because we are both in school at the same time,” says Benjamin. “My school is known for being a ministry school, which means the reason one attends is to prepare for a life of ministry and helping others. I want to learn about past cultures in hopes to help future generations from making the same mistakes that have been made in history. I would love to be able to pursue archeology and one day be a history professor.” Benjamin has been a member of the Dollywood family for three years.
