I am astounded that the 2012 year is coming to a close. For me, January began with hope, anticipation and excitement…
not to mention a little anxiety…for what the year was to hold. And now as I look back on it, what I feel is deep gratitude
and a renewed appreciation for our community.
I have always loved Polson. Just leave for a while, and when you crest Polson Hill and see the lake, the narrows, and
the mountains surrounding it upon your return, tell me you don’t also feel that sense of peace that says “you are home.”
With that said, although I have always enjoyed this area and the people, this past year has made an enormous impact
on me and I have learned so much more about what being a part of this community really means.
Our community and the citizens here are truly amazing! This past year our Cruisin’ by the Bay car show had its second
highest attendance ever. The Chamber Ambassador’s Smokin’ on the Water BBQ Cookoff had its most successful year
ever. The Heart & Soul project got kicked off and started gathering community input. Matt Seeley rallied the City, fellow
triathlon enthusiasts, volunteers, and many business owners to support the first ever Polson Triathlon. His wife, Tana
Seeley, is getting so(ooooo) close to having successfully pulled together people and funds for a real state-of-the-art
swimming pool facility. Several businesses celebrated milestone anniversaries. The Polson Fairgrounds group successfully secured a grant to rebuild a much needed grandstands structure. And a group of year-round recreation enthusiasts
from Envision Polson have spent extraordinary hours on planning and preparing for the first ever Flathead Lake International Cinemafest (FLIC), an event we will all get to enjoy the first part of February this next year. I could go on and on
about all of the tremendous efforts and exciting things that took place. I feel extremely honored to have been able to be
involved in some capacity with all of these amazing and energetic people over the past year.
I also cannot say enough about the wonderful Board of Directors and both of the office managers I’ve had the opportunity to work with. I can assure you, the group charged with driving the policies, procedures, directions, and actions of the
Polson Chamber of Commerce are extremely focused on you, the members, and doing what we can to help you and
your businesses be successful.
Once again as we look ahead to the next year, we feel the same excitement and anticipation as we did 12 months ago. I
am thrilled that Rich Forbis from Anderson Radio Broadcasting will be taking on the role as the next President of the
Chamber. Rich is so in tune with our community, and Anderson Radio graciously supports almost any event that takes
place in our area. Rich will be backed up by Rob Turner from Western States Insurance as the President-Elect. These
two will certainly be strong leaders for this organization and our community.
To all of our members, I have to thank you for your continued support of your Chamber. As we have said throughout the
year, there is strength in membership, and it is only because of you that this organization can exist and thrive. I have
immense gratitude to you all for the support that you have provided throughout the past year.
In appreciation,
Heather Knutson
