Hi, everyone. I think I am almost recovered from last
weekend. My great-niece's
wedding was wonderful. It
was a weekend full of lifetime memories. I see pictures
and
just smile.
With
Amanda's aneurism and
memory issues after, I wondered what kind of memories
she would be able to take
with her. I spoke with her
this week and she sounds so
good and happy, complete
Fr. Mark’s great-niece Amanda & with her own memories of her
her husband Michael
marriage to Michael. Again,
thanks to so many for your support and prayers.
Thoughts of memories is my reflection this week. My
mom had the best memory. She knew how everyone was
connected and related. She had stories about neighbors and
relatives. I remember, as kids, rolling our eyes when mom
would begin telling stories of who could ice skate so well or
tales of butchering with old neighbors. Mom had a memory
for stories. For some reason, mom would tell gruesome butchering stories when we were eating. I think with so many kids,
it made the food stretch a little further.
Now that I'm older, I have stopped rolling my eyes at stories of favorite memories. I've realized how important those
memories are to who a person is. Those memories are part of
who a person is. That is why I love all the different activities
our churches do. Vacation Bible stories will live on in children for years. Familiar songs will bring them back to times
of joy. Outdoor Masses, retreats, bake sales, card parties, retreats, sacraments and prayers all make memories that say the
Church loves and is part of family memories.
Memories are part of our tradition. "Do this in memory of
me" is something we hear every time we pray at Mass. We
remember not only a past event, but how we and God
are together today. We celebrate our past God-events, how
God is present today and how God will be with us in the
future.
In a world that says live for the day, it may be time to take
stock in our favorite memories. Summer is a good time to
slow down and remember. Don't just make memories this
summer; cherish them. Have a great week and remember how
God has blessed you.
Fr. Mark
Servers’ Appreciation Outing
Over the past years, the parishes of St. John's, Continental and
Glandorf, Sts. Peter and Paul, Ottawa, and St. Michael's, Kalida, have done different activities to say thanks to the Mass
servers for all your service. This year's activity is an afternoon movie in Bluffton, followed by pizza and activities at St.
Michael gym. All servers are invited for a day of fun and appreciation on August 10, beginning with a movie at 4:00 p.m.
We also could use some adult drivers for the event. More
details in next week's bulletin.
In Residence: Fr. Elmer Wurth, M.M.

It’s a Sellout!
We learned at this week’s Holy Name meeting that the Big
Ticket sold out (2400 tickets) again this year, benefiting the
summer youth baseball/softball teams. Thanks to Nick Schulte
and Mike Schimmoeller for another perfect campaign. 45 members were present to also sample bacon burgers off the new grill,
to ensure the trademark social burger flavor for Pioneer. Our
Holy Name Society is open to ALL men of the parish and meets
each 3rd Monday of the month, at 8:00 p.m., conveniently near
the food preparation area in the church basement (hint).
Prayer Line
All prayer requests should be made by calling Dolores Bockrath
(419-532-3548). Thanks!
Upcoming Wedding
Megan Heitmeyer &
Ben McIntyre
will be married on
Saturday, July 30, 2016.
Please include them
in your prayers.
WHAT A WEEK!
