LOUISIANA
INDEPENDENT ACCOUNTANT
OCTOBER 2015
PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE...
Ryan Orgeron
Its been a long hot summer but cooler weather is
on the way. Along with fall also comes seminar
season. I encourage everyone to register early and
attend the various seminars that LSIA sponsors. I
personally attended the NCPE Corp/Partnership
seminar in Metairie, LA and as usual, they did not
disappoint me. These seminars are priceless when
you consider the amount of information we receive
including a binder packed with worksheets, samples
and other reference material. If you want to step it
up with more information, consider joining the NCPE
FELLOWSHIP. More information can be found at
ncpefellowship.com.
Speaking of seminars, please note that the November
19th and 20th seminar and the December 7th and 8th
seminar will NOT be at the Crowne Plaza in Kenner.
Both of these seminars have been moved to the Best
Western Landmark Hotel in Metairie. Please note the
changes in the seminar section of this newsletter.
Have you ever considered giving back to LSIA?
Do you want to network with your peers? If you
do, you should consider joining LSIA as a BOARD
MEMBER or chair one of the various committees.
It’s not as hard as you think. Just contact any member
listed on the back of this newsletter or contact Larry
at the seminars and they will point you in the right
direction. The board could always use fresh ideas and
different points of view
on many of the difficult
decisions that must be
made to have LSIA
flourish for many years
to come. These positions
usually won’t take much
of your time and you will make friendships that will
be very rewarding to you and your business.
Throughout the month of October, the Louisiana
Department of Revenue will be putting on their
annual Tax Conference for Tax Professionals. If you
go to the Department of Revenue’s website under Tax
Professionals, you will find ail the dates and locations
they will be presenting.
By the time you get this newsletter, It should be time
to renew your PTIN (Preparer Tax Identification
Number) for 2016. Remember that anyone who
prepares or assists in preparing federal tax returns
for compensation must have a valid PTIN before
preparing tax returns. All PTIN’s expire on December
31 and must be renewed annually.
I wish you and your family all the best while we
prepare for the upcoming tax season. God bless you
all!

from Your
NSA STATE
DIRECTOR
Danette Daigle, EA, ARA
The NSA 70th Annual Convention and Expo was held August 19-22 of this year in Vancouver, Canada. As
your State Director, I am proud to have participated in representing LSIA. At the annual NSA meeting, new
officers and directors were elected. Kathy Hettick from WA was elected as the new NSA President, Alfred
Giovetti of MD as 1st Vice-President, Brian Thompson of AR as 2nd Vice-President and Curtis Lee of NC as
Secretary-Treasurer. Congratulations to all of the new officers.
NSA gave out awards honoring both individuals and societies for their services during the year. Among
the many awards given, The Accountant of the Year award went to Joseph Santoro of NH and the Affiliated
State Organization (ASO) of the Year award went to NC Society of Accountants. The Best ASO Website
went to the Public Accountants Society of CO.
The next NSA convention will be held in August of 2016 in Tampa Florida. This is not too far for our
Louisiana members to travel so I encourage you to consider attending next year. It may be next year, but
it’s not too early to begin planning if you want to attend. Please contact me if you are interested in helping
us represent our state on the national level in 2016.
If you were not able to attend any of this year’s IRS Nationwide Tax Forums and would have liked to,
there is good news! You still have the opportunity to view the seminars. You can register online and
view the seminar and obtain CPE for a fee, or you can choose to audit the seminar for free. For more
information on the individual tax forums, please go to www.irstaxforumsonline.com.
We are in the midst of our seminar season and I want to remind everyone to register for the SBET
reimbursement 30 days before each seminar to meet one of the requirements to receive a reimbursement of
your educational expenses. I hope you are taking advantage of this wonderful program. Please visit our
website at www.lsia.com for more information.
I trust you have finished all of your extensions and spending good quality time with your loved ones. Tax
season is only a few weeks away. Let’s spend this time catching up, getting ahead and getting educated
so that we will be ready for 2016.
“There are obviously two educations. One should teach us how to make a living and the other how to live.”
