Jesus Christ Superstar
The Skokie Park District’s Devonshire Playhouse Presents Jesus Christ Superstar Lyrics by Tim Rice Music by Andrew Lloyd Webber Direction & Choreography by Jessica Sawyer Musical Direction by Christie Chiles Twillie Jesus Christ Superstar is presented through special arrangement with and all authorized performance materials are supplied by Rodgers and Hammerstein Theatricals. Saturdays, November 7, 14, & 21 at 7 p.m. Sundays, November 8, 15, & 22 at 3 p.m. D I R E C TO R ’ S N O T E S This is not a religious or historical commentary, but a dynamic story of a radical who challenged established political, social and religious structures. It is a story of betrayal. It is at times difficult, arrogant and disturbing but always very real and incredibly human. In the words of the 1973 film’s director, Norman Jewison, “I hope that people will take this for what it is, an opera, not history. These kids are trying to take Jesus off the stained glass windows and get him down on the street. Some people are not going to like that.” There will be no intermission. Videotaping or other video or audio recording of this production is strictly prohibited.
