The awards ceremony included Proclamations from New York State Assemblywoman Donna Lupardo and Senator Thomas Libous. Rounds became the passenger and express agent or the Delaware, Lackawanna & Western Railroad’s station at Vestal, a position he held for nearly 25 years. The Vestal station supplied tenders with anthracite coal from the tipple, or silos, located along a large wooden trestle behind the depot. In 1881, at the age of 24, Fayette L. Fayette bought the coal business from the railroad and opened the F.L. Rounds Coal Company which grew to be one of the largest suppliers in the region. He soon hired architect C.A. Olmstead to design the unique building which was constructed in 1908 and located on Main Street in Vestal.
