Superior Venting Solutions for Dangerous Goods
Industrial chemicals and cleaners can be challenging for
the packaging at any time during storage and distribution.
Chemicals such as hydrogen peroxide, peracetic acid and
sodium hypochlorite can off-gas in their drums or containers,
causing leakage or distortion. These changes can also be
caused or accelerated by temperature and altitude changes.
To comply with regulatory guidelines for the transportation
of dangerous goods, packaging for these chemicals must be
vented without leaking. Packaging engineers must address
these design issues to maintain package integrity throughout
the whole product life cycle.
Trusted solutions for your industry needs
For more than 25 years, GORE® Packaging Vents have helped
to combine economic success with responsibility for humans
and environment. They have consistently demonstrated
compliance in challenging industrial applications. With GORE®
Packaging Vents, containers and drums maintain their shape
and consistently pass the rigid testing requirements of the DOT
and ADR. Gore membrane technology meets the needs of nearly
all industrial cleaners and chemicals. These vents are an ideal
solution for low surface tension fluids such as those containing
organics and surfactants. In addition, GORE® Packaging Vents
allow customers to increase production speed because
containers can be filled with hot liquids without needing to wait
for containers to cool down or worry of container collapsing.

testing
Immediately after the production process, GORE® Molded
Components undergo airflow testing as well as visual control.
This ensures that all components that are going to be
delivered meet the specifications and are free of damage or
contamination. In addition, GORE® Molded Components are
laser marked, which allows for identifying and tracking the
laminate type used, all relevant process data as well as the lot
numbers of intermediates. The result is improved traceability,
even after use, quality and peace of mind for our customers.

The experts in membrane technology
Solutions and services
The secret to GORE® Packaging Vents lies in Gore’s chemical
expertise and the tailoring of its membranes. Each one is
engineered with a variety of different properties for your
individual venting needs.
At Gore, we take pride in collaborating with innovation teams
at leading industrial product companies and work diligently to
provide proven, practical solutions to challenging packaging
problems. Our expert engineers will seek to identify and
understand your unique packaging and safety requirements.
We will help to recommend the appropriate venting solutions
and are happy to work with your global business partners to
drive your innovative products through to completion.
What GORE™ Membranes can do better
New aggressive chemicals require high airflow after liquid
contact. GORE® Packaging Vents membranes have unique
roll-off properties to meet this need. Unlike other membranes,
they quickly recover their venting capabilities after liquid
contact – even when splashed by high viscous or low surfacetension liquids.
Quality test
After the production process
extensive testing is carried out
on every single component:
In-line airflow test
100 % of the vents are airflow
inspected during production.
This ensures that every part meets
the specified airflow requirements.
In-line camera test
Optical test to ensure that each
vent is welded properly and is
free of defects.
Membrane with poor roll-off properties. Liquid clogging the membrane
which results in reduced airflow.
GORE™ Membrane with excellent
roll-off properties. Liquid easily
draining off.
How do GORE® Packaging Vents work?
GORE® Packaging Vents incorporate thin films of expanded
polytetrafluoroethylene (ePTFE). The material’s microporous
nature allows air to pass and equalizes pressure, but prevents
the passage of larger substances like dust, dirt and liquids.
Water entry pressure test
Testing the water entry pressure
allows to control the welding
process and the liquid-resistant
properties of hydrophobic and
oleophobic membranes.
Tracking
Each part receives an individual
tracking code during the laser
marking process. This assures lot
traceability and enables Gore to
reference the actual production
data at any time.
