A Letter from the President
Summer is here and the living is easy at Newnan Country Club! We kicked off the summer of '15 with our "Party
on the Patio." It was a huge success as over 125 of our members enjoyed fantastic food and drink and the music of
"Bobby and the Aristocats"-who put on one of the greatest performances in the history of NCC. We are already
getting requests for "Party on the Patio II"-watch your newsletter and e-mails for details.
Memorial Day Weekend saw a big crowd at the pool all weekend and a successful MGA Golf Tournament. I hope
that you had a chance to enjoy the festivities and the B-B-Q we put on. One of the best things about the weekend
was seeing the large number of our new members enjoying all of the amenities that NCC has to offer-swimming,
golf, tennis, our new playground and the chance to visit with old friends and make new ones. We now have
lifeguards at the pool for the summer and will be offering food and beverage service at the pool as well. Come out,
cool off, relax and let NCC do the cooking for you this summer.
In an effort to plan for the future of NCC I am pleased to report that Past President John Fanning has spearheaded
the formation of a "Past President's Council". This group has been meeting quarterly and will offer advice to the
current Officers and Board and will also lead in the formation and development of a strategic plan for our Club.
The members of the Council include John Fanning, Woody Waters, Steve Frey, Gaston Green, Jim Rogers, Jack
Giles and Clark Williams. Current Vice-President Dan Hensley is also serving on the Council. We are fortunate
that these gentlemen are still willing to share their time and expertise for the betterment of the Club. NCC member
Jim Poulakis, who is a professional in the area of corporate strategy and strategic plan development, has
generously agreed to donate his time and experience to help in this undertaking. If you have any thoughts on areas
the Club needs to focus on for the mid-term and long-term please share those with these folks and they will be
considered, I would remind you that Newnan Country Club will be celebrating its 100th Anniversary in 3 1/2
years (1919-2019) and we want to be ready for our next century of service to our members.
In the meantime let's enjoy the summer. We have our Annual Member-Guest Golf Tournament coming up on June
26-27 and we will have a band party on the 27th that is open to all members. We will continue to feature music by
the pool on selected Friday evenings and will have our usual "Happy Hour" food and drink specials.

Folks,
School is out, the grass is green and the pool water is crystal clear! May was another great month at Newnan Country Club!
We have welcomed approximately 55 new families to our Club since the beginning of the year and we hope to double that
number by the end of our Introductory Program! Please join me in welcoming the following members to the Newnan Country
Club Family who joined in May!
Mr. & Mrs. Kerry Graham
Mr. & Mrs. Alex Thompson
Mr. & Mrs. Keith Brady
Mr. & Mrs. Kyle Burkhart
Mr. & Mrs. David Dement
Mr. & Mrs. Walter Drake
The Pool Pavilion is open and staffed with guards and attendants Tuesday Through Saturday from 10:00 am to 7:00 pm and
on Sunday from Noon to 6:00 pm. Our adult members can use the pool prior to or after these hours. Please note that after
hours swimming will be “at your own risk” and children under the age of 14 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
We are also offering food service from the Pool Side Café. Please be patient as we train our staff to exceed your
expectations at the pool.
We are happy to announce that each family will receive 8 pool passes to be used during the 2015 swim season. These
passes will allow you to bring 8 in town guests over the course of the swim season. ($5 Guest Fee Applies)
Now that our clay tennis courts have been completely refurbished, we have seen much more activity. We are pleased to
announce that we have secured the services of Mr. Ben Maes. Ben has an impressive resume as a professional tennis
player, and as an accredited coach and instructor. Please take the time to read Ben’s bio. Ben will be offering NCC
members private or group lessons on clay or hard courts. Remember, we have a new combination lock on the tennis court
gate. Please call the Club to get the code if you would like to play tennis. Watch your weekly e-blasts for tennis
programming!
Finally, we have an exciting opportunity for a member to win FREE DUES for an ENTIRE YEAR. We are selling raffle
tickets as a fund raising effort to renovate our Ballroom. Tickets are $50.00 each, the more you purchase…the better
change you have of winning.
100% of the proceeds will go directly to the Ballroom Renovation Project. Tickets can be purchased in the Pro Shop,

Superintendent’s Update
Rain, finally! The course received 2" of rain yesterday. Prior to that, we had a whopping .65" for May. While I
would rather have it spread out over a few days I don't complain about rain, I deal with it. We have had a busy
month on the course. Along with the daily maintenance that we do, we have done a few things that hopefully
you have noticed. Several new signs have been put up, the Club Champion signs and a new Range yardage. We
have also installed an air compressor for blowing off cleats. By using this, it will help keep the inside of the
club a bit cleaner. Thank you to the MGA for the purchase of the compressor and Range signs! Two new
weeping willow trees have been planted along #6 lake bank, purchased be members of the Sewer/Septic group.
Three new maples have been planted along the right side of #8 where the big pine once stood. Lastly, another
willow has been planted on the lake at #2, in memory of Mr. Terry Lunsford.
The maintenance crew has also landscaped in front of the clubhouse. We have installed a dwarf Holly and
Loropetalum. We have Bermuda grass back in place and have pine strawed. These shrubs will give us color and
provide some feel of a foundation.
All fairways have been aerified. I plan to do this on all tees and in areas of the rough to relieve compaction. I
think the fairways are in great shape, and we will fertilize them again within a few weeks.
Lastly, we will be repairing a few spots on greens, #'s 5, 12 and 13. #'s 12 front right and 13 back left are spots
that stay wet and water has a hard time running off. The back 9 greens are native, push up greens so they don't
drain like the front. Over time the collars build up due to the sand topdressing that we do and my plan is to cut
back a few strips of the collar and lower the soil and replace the sod. While doing this, we will also dig down
and replace the soil and mix in greens mix. As for #5...I have sent off a sample to find out exactly what was
applied. We will be repairing these spots within the next week or so.

People often express to me that they
would like to be custom fit for their next set of clubs.
Is that the correct sequence when attempting to
improve one’s golf game? Well, the answer may
be yes for some, may be no for others.
Because of an almost unlimited selection of
golf clubs, one must be cautious when seeking a
custom fit. I feel that I can say from years of club
fitting and thousands of golf lessons, “It’s tha fittin
more than the brand ya hittin”. There really are a lot
of fine golf clubs being built today but some
manufacturers are better at customizing than others.
So, once you have narrowed down your choices to a
few different brands of clubs, then let me assist you in
selecting:
1. a head design that compliments your ball flight
characteristics
2. a shaft, (steel or graphite) that enhances your
potential for maximum clubhead speed and at the
same time balances distance and direction as a
final goal.
After narrowing down the above, the
following question will need to be answered:
1. Do I want to be fit for correction?
2. Do I want to be fit for compensation?
3. Do I want to be fit for extreme compensation?
Come by the pro shop and we can discuss all of the options
for YOU
