Winter 2010 Volume 14, No.1 NEWSLETTER of the HUMANE SOCIETY of MACOMB 11350 - 22 Mile Road, Utica, MI 48317 Action for Animals ANNUAL CHRISTMAS OPEN HOUSE TRIM A TREE Our Holiday Tree stands tall in the education area year round with the pictures of pets. During the year we call it our animal family tree, however during the Christmas Season it is all decorated with Christmas ornaments and any new photos that we receive. Send a clear photo of your pet along with a $5.00 donation and we will attach it to an ornament and hang it on our “Holiday Tree”. These photos will stay on our tree year-round catching the attention of visitors as they tour our shelter. Your donation will help to spread holiday spirit. Send your donation and a non-returnable photo to: December 11th, 2010 Saturday – mark your calendars! Christmas is just around the corner and the Humane Society of Macomb Animal Shelter is getting ready for their annual Christmas Open house-bake sale and craft sale. This is a very “Special” time for us at the shelter because it’s when we open the doors for everyone to visit all the homeless animals-see the shelter-and help to raise funds for the coming year. We need your HELP! Once again we are asking for the help of crafty and creative people to put their talents to work making crafts and bakers to help bake for our bake sale. Crafts can be brought to the shelter anytime between the hours of 10:00 am to 4:00 pm Monday thru Saturday starting now until Saturday, December 11th. Some items that people look for are tree ornaments, table decorations, crocheted mittens and slippers, scarf’s and any homemade craft good are all welcome. **Saleable items only, please**. Items that can be reasonably priced. This is a great place for children to do their Christmas shopping for their family, friends, teachers etc. Bake sale goods, such as cookies, pies, rolls, breads, coffee cakes, jellies, candies, brownies etc. are always needed to make our sale a success. If you can label your donated goods (ex: anything that has nuts) would be appreciated especially for those who have allergies. Baked goods can be brought to the shelter the day or two before or the day of the open house. Santa Claus will be here at NOON to greet all the children, (both young and old) who have special wishes for Christmas. Free coffee, donuts holes and popcorn will be available. We also have a Christmas Raffle with great prizes. Drawing will be at 4:00 pm and you do not have to be present to win. Raffle tickets are available now at the shelter and clinic. If you would like to sell some tickets for us to your friends and neighbors please stop by the shelter to pick them up. Your help is always needed. Your support as a volunteer is also welcome for that day. If you can help please call the shelter and leave your name and phone number if you can help. Call 586-731-9210. Raffle Tickets Got a little extra time on a way you could help the homeless animals... How about selling some raffle tickets for our annual Christmas Open House. Great prizes – donation of one dollar per ticket – all proceeds go to help the animals. Give a call or stop by to pick up what you think you may be able to sell. Do YOU have an animal that stays outside all year long? Just a reminder that Michigan Law requires proper shelter for your pet (s) 24 hour per day from the weather, which includes sun, heat, rain, snow etc. Our shelter (during the winter months) gives away a FREE bag of straw for the outside dog. A bag of straw may be picked up at our shelter after Nov. 1st. Also remember that your car’s coolant CAN KILL. Antifreeze has a pleasant aroma and sweet taste that is attractive to both children and animals. It’s HIGHLY TOXIC. Keep your pet and children away. Clean up even the smallest spills.
