Chris Madsen - In Black and White CD
Great private press from Vancouver, BC featuring one-half dark, haunted ssw moves with
reverberated vocals, these songs being the best on the LP. Chris has a deep voice which must issue
some sort of web as you are drawn to listen to him sing as he covers topics like nature, love and loss.
The other half of the LP contains solo guitar that, while played skillfully, pails in comparison to the
songs with vocals (in my opinion). Released independently in 1983, though many of the songs were
composed earlier.
Sometime after 1980 Chris spent a winter in a Tipi and wrote many of the songs. Afterwards he
played the coffee house circuit and eventually drummed up enough cash to press up the album himself.
True to his acoustic convictions the album retains his minimalist approach and doesn't suffer from it.
Even the reverberation was done using a real reverb plate. No digital effects here. To this day Chris
has made a living from playing and creating acoustic music. See the link below to visit his website.

Guitarist releases his Song of the
Troubadour at Vertigo
Vernon Morning Star
Published: November 30, 2010 7:00 PM
Local guitarist Chris Madsen has been a busy guy as of late.
The former music school owner has not only just released 10 CDs of instrumental guitar music (some of
them are re-releases), he has just published his new book, Song of the Troubadour, with an accompanying
CD.
“I am releasing perhaps the largest volume by a Canadian artist ever at one time,” Madsen told The
Morning Star.
The prolific musician will read selections from Song of the Troubadour at Vernon’s Gallery Vertigo
Saturday. A story set in medieval times, the book tells the epic love story about a prince from the Southern
Kingdom who sets sail on a beautiful and treacherous journey to find love.
“Song of the Troubadour is a deep well of beautiful truths about our life’s journey,” reads the book’s jacket.
“It is a love story painted from the palette of the master artist’s own heart.”
Born in Missoula, Montana, Madsen first picked up the guitar at the age of six and has spent his life
mastering the instrument.
He will be at Gallery Vertigo between 2 and 4 p.m. and will also perform some of the songs written to
accompany the book.
Local artist and illustrator Destanne Norris will also display some of her original drawings that have been
used as illustrations in the book.
Song of the Troubadour, which includes a CD of original songs by Madsen, will be available for purchase in
Gallery Vertigo’s gift boutique, DIZZY. It sells for $15 and will be signed by the author.
