WELCOME NEW TEACHERS UCHS is fortunate to add seven gifted individuals to both fill teacher openings and expand our faculty. Please make sure you give them a hearty UCHS HELLO! and make them feel welcome. Mary Davis was actually our original Math teacher when we were still at Concordia. She will be teaching our Algebra I & II classes as well as develop our new Computer Science program. Mrs. Davis will also be our new NHS advisor. Derek Chase comes to us from St. Stephens where he’s been Teacher of the Year several times. Mr. Chase will teach Biology, Chemistry, and Environmental Science. Brian Benson a graduate of William and Mary College is our new English teacher. He will be teaching English II, III, and IV. He is also teaching a Creative Writing course this semester. Janine Mendenhall is our new Guidance Counselor. She will also be teaching our English I classes. Ashley Bartok joins our Spanish department to teach Spanish II. She is also a Yoga instructor. We also welcome Alex Freeman, a graduate student from LRU, who will be teaching PE and Dennis Whitener, our new Athletic Director, coming to UCHS from the Catawba County Schools. One of their tasks was to develop the theme for this year’s book. From that they were also to come up with a cover design. At the end of the workshop, all the schools gave a presentation. Everyone was then asked to vote for their favorite theme/cover design. The UCHS received the vote of every other school there and won a gift certificate to Best Buy.
