Blue Back Square, West Hartford Center
February 21-28, 2015
The Hartford Art School is taking over Blue Back Square!
All faculty, staff, students, and alumni of the Hartford Art School are invited to
participate in this unique Pop-Up Shop in Blue Back Square.
This is a chance for us to get ourselves out into the community to work together
for the greater good of the school. Not only will we show and sell our work, we
will also show the patrons and shoppers of Blue Back Square what an amazing
treasure the Hartford Art School really is!
The Scoop:
The Hartford Art School has booked the 65 Memorial Road storefront (across
from Crate & Barrel) in Blue Back Square for February 20-March 1.
We will be holding a weeklong Hartford Art School Pop-Up Shop from February
21-28 with daily store hours and an opening reception celebration on Saturday,
February 21.
Participation in the Pop-Up Shop is voluntary, but we hope that everyone will
want to join in on this unique opportunity.
Sales:
Artwork included in the Pop-Up Shop must be available for sale. The Pop-Up
Shop will accept cash, checks, and credit cards on the behalf of the artists and
will disperse sales proceeds after sales close on February 28. The Pop-Up Shop
will charge CT state sales tax (6.35%) and collect a commission on all artwork
sales, which will cover expenses for the storefront and benefit the Hartford Art
School Senior Party.
Commissions:
Two levels of commission are available depending on whether or not the artist
volunteers time staffing the Pop-Up Shop.
If the artist does not volunteer:
Artist receives 70% of sales total
Art School receives 30% of sales total
If the artist Volunteers:
Artist receives 80% of sales total

Participant Name: _____________________ (“Participant”)

Definitions
“Participant” means a University {circle one} student/alumnus/employee named above about whom this
document is concerned.
“Project” means a retail art sales activity coordinated by the University (defined below) at in Space No. D30 of
Blue Back Square (Center) at 65 Memorial Road, West Hartford, CT. Project includes Participant accompanying
other University students, and certain University personnel and alumni under the auspices of University’s

from the Project that University has arranged, and any independent activity that Participant undertakes as an
adjunct to the Project.
“University” means The University of Hartford.
Acknowledgement
I, the signing party understand that Participant’s participation in the Activity is not UH’s requirement but instead
my own voluntary decision. I recognize that University’s role in the Project is limited to the Project’s planning
based on University’s preliminary description of that event, providing on-site supervision and general facilitation
activities based on that description, which all depend on factors substantially beyond the University’s control. I
further understand that if Participant – for transportation to or from the Project – chooses to drive or be a
passenger in any vehicle that Participant, any other participant or any third person owns or rents other than as
described above, then University has no responsibility in connection with that transportation.
Assumption of Risk
In exchange for University granting to Participant a privilege to participate in the Project, I, voluntarily assume
any risk that Participant incurs in participating in the Project. I also understand that by participating in the
Project, Participant becomes subject to a risk of injury including, without limitation: physical injury, property
damage, disease; or death. I also recognize that any foreseeable or unforeseeable risk of injury or death may
occur as a result of Participant’s participation in the Project (including any itinerary or retail operations change of
which Participant has not specifically been notified). Further, I recognize that any action by any other individual
at or near the retail premises may cause harm or loss to Participant’s person or property.
Release of Liability
I release University, its Regents, and each University employee, agent or representative (collectively, the
“GROUP”) from any liability, claim, cost, expense, injury or loss – even if resulting from any negligent
GROUP act – that Participant sustains as a result of participating in the Project. I also release the GROUP
from liability arising from any loss or damage that any other Project participant causes to Participant’s
person or property.
If any legally-authorized tribunal determines any part or portion of this Assumption of Risk and Release of
Liability to be invalid or unenforceable, then each remaining part or portion is enforceable. I am aware this
Assumption of Risk and Release of Liability binds legally both the GROUP and me and I sign it of my own free
will.
I have read, understand, agree to and acknowledge the above risk and liability release.
