Only after these actions the machine can be switched on again. As a basic principle our “General conditions of sale and delivery” that are known by the operator apply. Warranty and liability claims in case of damage to persons or property are excluded when they attribute to one or more of the following reasons: • - 1.2 The knowledge of the function and the basic security advices for the edge banding device are basic requirements for a safe handling and a trouble-free use of this machine. This operating manual and especially the security advices have to be observed by all persons that work with the machine. In addition the regulations and guidelines for safety at work have to be followed. The machine is built according to best available technology and the recognised technical regulations for safety. Nevertheless using the machine can cause danger to the user or third persons or damage to the machine or other assets. Therefore the machine has to be used only improper usage of the machine incorrect mounting, initial operation, usage and maintenance of the machine. using the machine with defect safety devices or not properly mounted or not working safety devices. failure to comply with the advices in the operating manual regarding transport, storage, mounting, initial operation, cleaning and maintenance of the machine. altering the machine without authority. altering of engine output or drive conditions of the machine. inadequate monitoring of parts that are subject to wear. incorrectly performed repairs. events of catastrophe caused by others or force majeure. Intended usage The edge banding device is to be used only for gluing on of edges (with a width of 10 to 45 mm) to wooden plates using a hotmelt adhesive. The machine has to be used only for this function. Part of intended usage are also: • observing of all notes in the operating manual and • abiding to cleaning and maintenance works. Seite 5 Porta Master PM2000i/T/TS/TSL 1.3 Improper usage Other usage than described above are not allowed as improper usage might lead to dangerous events in which people that work with the machine or close to it could be injured or lead to damages at the machine. 1.4 Informal safety measures • • • 1.5 Danger caused by electricity • • • • 1.6 The continuous sound pressure level caused by the machine is < 70 dB(A). Regulations for the prevention of industrial accidents, Guidelines for safety at work • • Seite 6 Conduct mandatory cleaning and maintenance works within the time limit. During all cleaning, maintenance and repair works the machine has to be disconnected from electrical supply (by unplugging the machine). Noise caused by the machine • 1.8 Working on the electric supply have to be conducted by electrical technicians only. The electronic equipment of the machine has to be checked regularly. In case of defects at the electronic equipment the machine has to be disconnected from electronic supply at once and the damages have to be removed by an electrical technician. Switch the machine on again only if the electronic equipment has been checked and no defects are present. Maintenance and cleaning work • • 1.7 The operating manual has to be kept together with the machine all time. Additionally to the operating manual general and local regulations for electricity, avoiding of accidents and guidelines for safety at work and environmental protection have to be provided and adhered to. All notes regarding safety and danger that are placed on the machine have to be kept legible and must be replaced if necessary. The applicable regulations for the prevention of industrial accidents and guidelines for safety at work have to be followed at all costs. The machine has to be switched off at once should an accident occur. Porta Master PM2000i/T/TS/TSL ADDITIONAL SAFETY REGULATIONS FOR THE MACHINE WARNING: NONOBSERVANCE OF SAFETY REGULATIONS CAN LEAD TO SERIOUS BODY INJURIES! • • • • • • • • • • • • Do not place your hand into moving parts. Attention! Glue container can become very hot! Do not touch hot parts. Always hold machine with both hands when operating the machine. Do not bend over the machine. Always make sure enough cable is available and this cable does not interfere with using the machine. Check connecting cable before each starting-up of the machine. Do not conduct repair or maintenance work on heated up machine. Never use close to inflammable or explosive materials. Do not work in humid rooms or outside when it is raining. Vapours will be released, always work in well ventilated rooms or use respirator mask. Make sure the machine has fully cooled down before you place it into the styrofoam cover. GENERAL SAFETY REGULATIONS ! ! Please read these instructions carefully and store them. ! ! ATTENTION! To avoid electric shock, injuries and fire when using power tools the following safety regulations must be followed. Read and observe these notes before you use the device. Careless neglect makes all warranty claims void. 1. Keep your working space tidy! • Untidiness in the working area means a higher risk for accidents. 2. Bear environmental effects in mind • Do not expose power tools to rain. Do not use power tools in humid or wet environments. Make sure there is enough light. Do not use power tools close to inflammable liquids or gases. 3. Avoid electric shock • Electric shock is prevented by functional equipment grounding conductor. Eventually use error current equipment grounding conductor. 4. Keep unauthorised persons away! • Do not let other persons/children work with the device. Keep them away from your working space. 5. Keep your tools in a safe place • You should store not used tools in a dry and closed room and away from children. 6. Wear appropriate work clothes • Do not wear wide clothes or jewellery. They could get into movable parts of the machine. We recommend to wear rubber gloves and anti-slip shoes when you work outside. Should you have long hair please wear a snood-type cap. Seite 7 Porta Master PM2000i/T/TS/TSL 7. Do not divert the cable from its intended use • Do not carry the device by holding it from the cable and do not use the cable to unplug the device. Protect the cable from heat, oil and square edges. 8. Secure the work piece • Use clamping devices or a bench vice to fix the work piece. This fixes the work piece and makes it possible to hold the work piece with both hands while operating the machine. 9. Do not overexpand your area of standing • Avoid abnormal posture. Make sure you have a safe position and keep your balance. 10. Take care of your tools • Regularly check plug and cable. In case of damages let an expert replace them. Regularly check the extension cable and replace damaged cables. Keep the hand grips dry and free from oil and grease. 11. Disconnect the power plug • When not using the device, before maintenance, cleaning or repairs. 12. Avoid not intended start-up • Make sure that the mains switch is switched off when connecting to electricity. 13. Extension cable in outdoor usage • When working outdoor use only respectively marked extension cables. It is absolutely important to take care of the correct wire cross section. 14. Test your device for damages • Before using the tool test protection device or parts that can be damaged for their proper and correct function. Check the function of movable parts that these parts do not lock and are not damaged. All parts have to be mounted correctly and fulfil all conditions to grand a proper operation of the device. Damaged safety devices and parts have to be repaired or exchanged properly by a service station as long not mentioned differently in the operating manual. Damaged switches have to be replaced with a service station. Do not use tools where the switch cannot be switched off and on. 15. Repairs have to be conducted by electrical technicians only • This tool conforms to the respective safety regulations; repairs may only be conducted by an electrical technician, otherwise this may lead to accidents. Still there might be a rest of danger arising from the machine. At the same time the number of materials that have to be connected is increasing rapidly. New methods and tools for processing adhesives are being developed. These constant changes are met by intensive research and development. The glue manufacturers are innovatively working for you to get an optimal consulting and the best adhesive for your application. These specifications are based on our tests conducted in laboratories and practical experience, also of our customers. Of course these data cannot cover all parameters that apply to each case of application and therefore are for information only and without responsibility. An inspection for adequacy – conducted by the user himself is essential – in each case of application of adhesives recommended by us. This applies to the first sampling inspection of a product as well as to changes during a running production. Therefore we advert new customers that the recommended adhesives need to be tested for their possible application with original parts according to the operating condition. Subsequently produced adhering need to be exposed to actual conditions and need to be evaluated. This testing is essential. Using the adhesive without these precautions is at your own risks. Our specifications are based on the results in practice and are no warranty of properties in the sense of the new jurisdiction of the Federal Court of Justice (Bundesgerichtshof). No liability can be derived from the usage of our free technical consulting service. Seite 11 Porta Master PM2000i/T/TS/TSL Glue recommendation: WEGOMA skg 170 Kleiberit: EVA-SK788, Dorus: KS217, Jowat: 280.40 • The chipboard should not have a too raw cutting area! • Panels and material of the edges need to have room temperature! • Good humidity of the wood is 8-10%. Other data might affect the adhesion! • Room temperature should not be below 18°C – Avoid draught! • Always work with sufficient contact pressure on the edge – not sufficient pressure causes errors during adhesion! • Always check sufficient moistening of the edge with sample edge! • Store the hot melt adhesive in a cool and dry place and keep it closed! • Hot melt adhesives will release vapours also when they are used according to the prescribed processing temperature. Hence provisions for elimination of the vapours have to be implemented, e.g. appropriate suction! • The glue lid and the glue adjustment screw shall not be opened or turned when cold. These parts will stick to the surface after the glue has cooled down and will only loosen when device is heated again (refer to operating manual). • Rests of glue have to be removed from the machine after each operating circle or before each use (cleaning spray WEGOCLEAN or similar). • Keep dust and shavings away from the machine. Store the machine in the system box which is part of the delivery. Dirty machines can cause errors during adhesion. • A filled glue container is sufficient (depending on type of glue) for gluing around 13 m (height of edge: 45 mm) or 25 m (height of edge: 25 mm). • Always make sure that there is sufficient hotmelt adhesive in the reservoir and that it is totally melted – otherwise this causes errors during adhesion! • Operate the feed for around 7 minutes when you refill the granulate. • Inlay edges up to a maximum of 2.0 mm can be processed. For gluing the edges on the side with the glue must be laminated and ground. (Observe manufacturer’s instructions) • The carrier material for processing the edges has to be exactly rectangular and dust-free! • It is absolutely necessary to do a test gluing when gluing inner and outer radii. You can also use other adhesives. In any case the adhesive bond has to be checked. We cannot be hold liable. Seite 12 Porta Master PM2000i/T/TS/TSL 4.2 Keep in mind before using the edge banding device ATTENTION! PLEASE OBSERVE BEFORE FIRST USAGE OF YOUR EDGE BANDING DEVICE. The following hot melt adhesives can be used to glue edges: WEGOMA SKG 170, Kleiberit:EVASK788, Dorus: KS 217, Jowat: 280.40 Please observe the instructions of the manufactures of the glue. • • • • • • Machine can crash or fall down. As a result persons might get hurt. Place device so that it cannot crash or fall Hold device with both hands at the handholds when you glue edges Surfaces can become hot due to hot glue. Be careful when handling hot parts. Please keep in mind that when you switch on the device the feed switch (A) has to be in position “0” The glue adjusting screw (B) and the lid of the glue reservoir (C) will stick after the machine has cooled down. Do not try to adjust them or to remove the lid before you have re-heated the machine. Should an edge jam, you always have to remove it into transport direction. Never pull back the edge, as otherwise the pressure and transport roller can get dirty with glue and get sticky. (Fig. 4) Seite 13 Porta Master PM2000i/T/TS/TSL 5 Work mode for PM2000T/TS with temperature display and infinitively variable speed control J K Our machine PM2000T is equipped with a digital temperature display. Here the temperature of the glue can be set infinitely variable from 120° - 200°C. First switch on the main switch of the machine. The lower display (red) “SV” shows the currently set value. The upper display (green) “PV” shows the current temperature of the hotmelt adhesive in the glue reservoir. To change the temperature of the glue you press the “FUNC” (K) button. The red display starts flashing. If you press this button again you can use the buttons (L) to set the temperature at the desired place. For confirmation press the MODE (J) button. To change from Celsius to Fahrenheit just press the left key (mode) for a longer time till you can choose between Celsius and Fahrenheit wich you do with the arrow keys. ATTENTION: Please keep in mind that the temperature display reacts faster than the granulate that has to be melted. Therefore, when the working temperature is reached, you should wait for around 5 – 10 minutes for the granulate to be melted completely. L Our machine PM2000TS is additionally equipped with an infinitely variable speed control. The speed control infinitely variable reduces the feed rate of the edge tape. The operating speed of the machine is reduced and therefore can be used more precisely with tighter inner and outer radii. At 100% the speed is 4,0 m/min. At 90% the speed is 3.6 m/min. At 80% the speed is 3,2 m/min. At 70% the speed is 2,8 m/min. ATTENTION: When you reduce the speed the temperature of the glue has to be increased by around 10°C. This depends on the granulate and should at all costs be tested for durability on a specimen before you use the glue for edges the first time. 6 Working with the edge banding devices 6.1 Method of operation, Work mode 1 ADJUSTING THE BEARING PLATE Depending on the height of the work piece the bearing plate (2) has to be adjusted. To do so open the clamping lever (1). With a measuring stick you can set the height of the bearing plate (Thickness of work piece + ca. 2 mm). To make the setting easier we have placed a scale at the retaining pin of the bearing plate. 2 ADJUSTING THE EDGE HEIGHT There is only one setting (holding-down clamp D) for the height of the edge. Make sure the edge runs freely and there are no obstacles. Insert sample edge between parts (F) and (E). To do so open adjustment knob C to set the height of the edge (+ 0.5 mm). Take care that there are no obstacles for the edge in the lower guide slot. Fasten the adjustment knob. Seite 14 Porta Master PM2000i/T/TS/TSL ADJUSTING THE AMOUNT OF GLUE With the adjusting screw (G) you control what amount of glue is applied onto the edge. Display from “0 – 2”. As soon as the machine has heated up and the granulate has become liquid turn the adjusting screw to position “0” (clockwise). Use a sample edge to check the amount of glue (ca. 1 m). Switch on the feed. Lead the edge through the parts (E) and (F) (without work piece) until the transport roll carries the edge automatically.Now slowly open the glue adjustment screw anticlockwise until the edge is coated evenly. When adjusting you have to keep in mind the paste roll needs ca. 2-3 seconds to transport the glue up from the glue container. Do not set the adjusting screw after the machine has cooled down. With a filled glue reservoir the amount of glue can be used to cover around 22 m of edges that have a height of 23 mm or around 8 m of edges that have a height of 45 mm. ADJUSTING THE EDGE THICKNESS You do not need to make adjustments. EDGES & SETTING The edges must be around 2-3 mm thicker than the work piece to process. CUTTING TO LENGTH OF THE EDGES Cut edges to the length of the work piece + ca. 6 cm. TAKE CARE WHEN PUTTING GLUE ONTO THE EDGES: ALWAYS MAKE SURE THAT ENOUGH CONTACT PRESSURE AGAINST THE WORK PIECE IS USED WHEN EDGES ARE GLUED. OTHERWISE THIS COULD CAUSE ERRORS DURING ADHESION. METHOD OF OPERATION Switch the machine on with the mains switch (H). When the temperature of the glue has reached 150°C the control lamp (I) at the feed switch lights up. Depending on the granular material the machine has to warm up for 10 to 15 minutes to get from 0° to 150°. Take care that there are no objects in the machine. When the green control lamp at the hand grip lights up the feed can be switched on. This causes the granulate to meld faster. Before every operating circle or gluing it is absolutely necessary to wait until the granulate is liquid. (Open lid and check). Seite 15 Porta Master PM2000i/T/TS/TSL Place the guide plate 6 (Fig.1) onto the work piece and place the pressure roll 9 close to the work piece without touching it. Hold the machine tight to the bearing plate with the “right hand”. Press the switch (8) at the hand grip. The feed is started. With the left hand lead the edge through the two guides 14 until the transport roll 13 is reached. The edge is transported forward automatically now. Wait for around 2 seconds till the band has reached the pressure roll and press the nip roll against the work piece. The movement of the pressure roll 9 automatically moves the machine ahead with a speed of 3.8 m/min. Pushing the machine forward would lead to non uniform speed. At the end of the band make sure that the machine is led further uniformly in height and direction until the protruding band is led out of the nip roll. Abb1 6 9 8 13 14 Seite 16 Porta Master PM2000i/T/TS/TSL STATIONARY USE Your edge banding device can also be converted into a stationary unit. To do so please use the included assembly fixture. ABB. 4. The thickness of the necessary worktop is at a minimum of 18 mm. Cut an opening into the worktop by using the included drawing as a template. Install the “assembly fixture” onto the worktop. Install the gluing device onto the assembly fixture (to do so use the included screws 3xM6). An “auxiliary board” is needed (thickness of ca 3 mm) ABB. 6. That way the work piece is guided 3 mm above the worktop. COMMENT: To get used to the correct work flow we recommend to glue some short specimen to obtain the right “feeling”. You will be surprised how easily and precisely the machine can be handled. You should constantly monitor the glue supply and refill it at an early stage. Seite 17 Porta Master PM2000i/T/TS/TSL 7 Malfunctions 7.1 Safety regulation Before you start looking for a malfunction the machine could be energised; therefore be especially careful under this condition. - 7.2 To eliminate a malfunction it is absolutely necessary to switch off the machine and to disconnect it from electricity and to secure it against being switched on again. Check correct connection of cables before you switch on the machine again. Check protection devices. Malfunction analysis, Trouble shooting Malfunction Seite 18 Cause Action Machine does not start. No connection to electricity. Connect machine to electricity. Machine does not start. Fuse is defect. Exchange fuse Edges are not fully covered with glue. The granulate in glue reservoir is not yet fully liquid. Open lid and check if all of the granulate is liquid. Edges are not drawn into automatically. Feeder roll is dirty. Clean Feeder roll from rests of glue and dirt. Edges do not stick together. Not enough pressure was used while glue was applied to the edges. Apply constant pressure on the edges while gluing takes place. Edges do not stick together Temperature of glue to low. Select higher temperature of glue. While gluing the edges go up or down. Holding-down clamp is set too high. Set holding-down clamp exactly to height of edge. Edges do not stick together Conditions like temperature, Check initial conditions in adhesive etc. are not correct. respect of advice for the user on pp 11/12. Porta Master PM2000i/T/TS/TSL 8 Maintenance, cleaning, repair and servicing Make sure that the machine is not connected to the power supply. Machine must have cooled down completely before you start maintenance. 1. We recommend to remove rests of glue from the transport rollers with a cleaning spray after each finished operating cycle. (eg WEGOCLEAN) 2. Clean the surfaces of the edge guides. Remove rests of glue with cleaning agent. (WEGOCLEAN) 3. In case of abrasive contamination clean nip roll and transport roll. 4. Glue reservoir – Rests of glue in the reservoir do not need to be removed. They will be heated and used again during the next working operation. If the device is switched on for hours without being used, you should remove the glue prior to next use. Switch on the machine. Wait for some minutes until the glue at the borders is heated. Now you can remove the glue with a hard object in one process. Disposal of old electrical & electronic equipment (Applicable in the countries of the European Union and other European countries with separate collection systems) This symbol on the product or on its packaging indicates that this product shall not be treated as household waste. Instead it shall be handed over to the applicable collection point for the recycling of electrical and electronic equipment. By ensuring this product is disposed of correctly, you will help prevent potential negative consequences for the environment and human health. Otherwise environment and human health could suffer negative consequences by inappropriate waste handling for this product. The recycling of materials will help to conserve natural resources. For more detailed information about recycling of this product please contact your local city office, your household waste disposal service or the shop where you purchased the product.
