WELCOME to
Xposé
2013
I am proud to welcome you all to CAPIC’s (the Canadian Association of Professional Image
Creators) Xposé Exhibit during this years Scotiabank CONTACT Photography Festival 2013.
CAPIC sought out our nation’s image creators for stellar works from a dazzling array of Canadian
visionaries. The images are sensual, edgy, magical, passionate and intuitive... emotions for which there
are no words.
CAPIC is recognized as the premier home of Canada’s most influential photographers who have left
their mark on Canadian history and culture. Many image creator's have benefited from CAPIC's support
in the areas of business practices & professionalism. In fact, we have included an homage page in
memory to those big name photographers before us, who left a legacy of great images that has inspired
many young photographers today.
Many premier photographers have supported CAPIC over the decades and have served as either
teachers or mentors to the new talent moving up within the organization. This year CAPIC is also
showcasing the talented artists from our RODEO contest. These are photography & illustration students
from across Canada who will be our new generation of artists.
CONTACT and CAPIC have collaborated to showcase the best of Canadian photographers with an
exhibition of their amazing images spanning the past 40 years. The exhibit is an overview of the
Canadian Cultural legacy and includes some rarely shown images. I invite you to come and celebrate
the works of our visual mavericks, our story-tellers and our history makers.
www.capic.org
I highly recommend Xposé as “a must see” for serious photography collectors, image buffs and anyone
who truly appreciates the art of photography.

Richard Harrington
"Adderiorli" - The Man with a Box
1911-2005
Canadian photographer Richard Harrington took epic journeys by dogsled between 1948 and 1953,
bringing back images of the traditional Inuit way of life that astonished the world."
George Hunter
Canadian Photographer
1921-2013
To quote - Winnipeg Free Press "The Inuit called him "Adderiorli" - the Man with a Box. The box was his camera.
Widely published and likely Canada's most travelled photographer, George Hunter spent seven decades
creating dramatic images across Canada and in well over one hundred countries.
Shown is Harrington’s iconic photo of a mother and son rubbing noses taken in Padlei, NWT, in 1950.
This photo was also chosen by E Steichen for the famous exhibition:
Family of Man at the Museum of Modern Art, N.Y. 1955
Appointed to the Royal Academy of Arts in 1977, George has been widely published across Canada, the
USA, Europe and Japan, including four major photo spreads for TIME magazine for which he was acclaimed
in three Publisher's Letters.
Photo is courtesy of Micheal Cooper and is not for sale.
Five major banks have mounted exhibitions of George's photography in their lobbies in Montreal, Toronto
and Calgary. The National Film Board of Canada featured his images from fifty countries in one of their largest
exhibitions, entitled "People of Many Lands". After a successful summer run in 1972, several additional sets
were produced and distributed to venues around the world.
A Padleimiut Inuit mother caresses her child by "nose rubbing" (kissing) in their igloo
during a time of famine.
George Hunter, one of Canada's foremost photographers, passed away peacefully with family by his side,
at Credit Valley Hospital on Wednesday, April 10, 2013. He was 91 years old.

Nikol Mikus
Celia Moase
Nikol Mikus is an image-maker, based in Montréal, Canada. As an emerging commercial photographer she shoots satirical, ironic, editorial portraits with
urban grit and subculture style. Her photos emanate attitude, power, sexuality, and of course... humor.
Celia Moase has come to realize that using photos to document and observe is a part of her being. Her observations simply became more inquisitive, and
her shooting sometimes more experimental. She loves to step back, be a fly on the wall, and play with the scene in her camera while allowing a photo to unfold.
In her work she aspires to slow people down, to stop and look at our daily immediate surroundings, and to bring out the beauty in the ordinary.
