ry a n i im l e Pr ent m e unc o n An Special AOSPR Congress, 2016 10 - 12 October 2016 Borneo Convention Centre Kuching, Sarawak Pre-Congress : Back to Basics ‘Something for Everyone’ Organiser: In collaboration with: As i a n - O ce a n i c S o c i e t y o f Pa e d i at r i c R a d i o l o g y ORGANISING CHAIRPERSON’S MESSAGE Dear friends, On behalf of the organising committee, I would like to take this opportunity to welcome you to the Special Asian and Oceanic Society for Paediatric Radiology (AOSPR) Congress, 2016 which will be held from 10th to 12th of October 2016 in Kuching, Sarawak. We are very proud and honoured to announce that College of Radiology, Academy of Medicine of Malaysia has again been given the opportunity to host the Congress in Malaysia. Since its inaugural meeting in Tokyo in 2000, AOSPR Congress has been organised and hosted by a member country almost every year. In 2009, we were given the opportunity to organise a very successful AOSPR Congress in Kuala Lumpur, the capital city of Malaysia. I am sure some of you still remember the event. In 2016, the Special AOSPR Congress will be in Kuching the capital of Sarawak “The land of the hornbills” in East Malaysia in the Island of Borneo. Kuching is the land of friendliness, the land of multi-ethnic harmony, the land of adventure and wilderness and the land where you can explore possibilities. I am sure your stay here will be exciting and promising as you explore Kuching and the rest of Sarawak. In whatever we do, we must have a good grasp of basic knowledge, hence the theme for our pre-congress is “Back to Basics” which covers radiation protection to hands-on ultrasound sessions. The theme for our main congress is “Something for Everyone” which will cover a variety of common and challenging imaging topics for everyone to benefit from. We will try our best to ensure that this conference is interesting and exciting especially with the great contributions from all our friends from AOSPR member countries. To add to the excitement, we have invited distinguished speakers from Canada, USA, Australia, Philippines, Singapore, Hong Kong and many more. We hope this Congress will be a platform for us to share our research, experience and knowledge with others and it will be a platform for us to enhance our academic and clinical collaboration with the rest of the world. Once again, we welcome you and look forward to seeing you all in Kuching, Sarawak in 2016. Mudahan kita berjumpa agik di Kuching, Sarawak kelak! (Till we meet again in Kuching, Sarawak!) Hamzaini Abdul Hamid Chairperson Organising Committee Special AOSPR Congress 2016 1 Special AOSPR Congress, 2016 AOSPR PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE I consider it a great honour and a privilege to have been called upon to send a message on the occasion of the Special Asian & Oceanic Society for Paediatric Radiology (AOSPR) Congress. This exciting event will be held in Sarawak, Malaysia from 10 - 12 October 2016. The theme of this year is ‘Something for Everyone’. The most important element for a successful congress is the quality of the programme. I am sure the organising committee have all been working hard to make this conference an informative and enjoyable experience. Many prominent speakers, along with information-packed presentations, will fill the agenda. The Congress will not only have a great line-up of key note speakers from both overseas and local faculties, but will also bring together distinguished experts and participants in the specialty to share their experiences, professional knowledge and practices in paediatric radiology. We also hope to create an opportunity for building network and trust relationships internationally. I extend my best wishes to Dr Hamzaini Abdul Hamid, the chairperson of organising committee, and his team for a very successful academic meeting. I also look forward to meeting you in Sarawak in October 2016. Wendy Lam President Asian-Oceanic Society of Paediatric Radiology, AOSPR 2 CoR PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE A warm welcome to the delegates of Special AOSPR Congress, 2016! The Organising Committee under the leadership of Dr Hamzaini who has done an excellent job is putting this conference together. Attending conference is definitely about acquiring new knowledge. But, this is also an opportunity for fellowships where you make new friends and rekindle friendships with old friends. In addition, Special AOSPR Congress, 2016 also allows you to explore a new part of the world, largely untouched and virgin. They say to know Malaysia, is to love Malaysia. We are a bubbling and bustling country with various races - Malays, Chinese, Indians and many other ethnic groups - living together in peace and harmony. We are one of the unique places on earth where you can find numerous food and cuisine making us a gastronomical paradise. We are also homes to various festivals - Hari Raya, Chinese New Year, Deepavali and many others - celebrated harmoniously and shared by all Malaysians. As people, Malaysians are warm and friendly. Kuching is a modern city. But Kuching is also where adventure is. The tropical rainforest opens up to grand, green awesome vast wilderness. With many more ethnic groups Iban, Bidayuh, Kelabit, Orang Ulu and many others - you will be enthralled by the cultural diversity. Today you may arrive as guest but tomorrow you will leave as family. Come and explore Malaysia and in particular Kuching. From towering skyscrappers to houses on stilts, your trip will definitely be memorable. Welcome everyone. This year conference will definitely be a memorable one. The 4 hand prints with 2 big hands representing hands of adults and 2 small hands representing hands of children symbolise doctors in paediatric imaging trying our best to help sick children to get better to continue with their exciting life as children. A butterfly is formed by the 4 hands. The butterfly reminds us to image gently. The butterfly draws power from the air and is able to float upon a breeze. Thus, it represents the power of our mind and our ability to control it when necessary. The butterfly represents the never-ending cycle of life; it is like the panacea that gives us the ability and clarity of the mind needed for self-transformation. Butterflies appear to dance as they flitter among flowers. Butterflies also bring colour and joy to us. They remind us to take it easy on our life and enjoy to the fullest.
