APRIL SHOWERS BRING
MAY FLOWERS
MARCH WAS THE
MONTH FOR BABIES
This year, March has proven
to be the month of the newborn.
Resident Agnes enjoyed a visit
from her great-granddaughter,
Madison, and the proud big
brother, Will. Madison arrived
in the world Sunday, March 6th,
early in the morning. Our
attending Physician, Dr. Seema
Dattani, is currently away on
maternity leave as she welcomed
her newborn son, who was
delivered on March 8th. And our
very own Executive Director,
Karen Friedman, became a
proud first-time grandmother
this month to a healthy baby
boy, Joshua Allen. Mazel tov.
LODGE LANE wishes the
families a lifetime of love, health
and happiness.
Agnes visits with great grandson, Will, and
his new baby sister, Madison.
Many of us have heard the
poem uttered as Spring turns the
corner. But have you ever
stopped to question the origin
of this little rhyme? In an article
written by Ken Bolt in 2008, the
rhyme originated back in 1557
as a poem written by a
gentleman named Thomas
Tusser. He had compiled a
collection of writings that he
referenced as “A Hundred Good
Points of Husbandry.” Others
argue that this is nothing more
than a clever expression of the
happenings witnessed in nature
and science.

APRIL BIRTHDAYS
This could certainly be
substantiated by Geoffrey
Chaucer’s Prologue to The
Canterbury Tales, which was
written between 1340 and 1400.
The first four lines have been
translated to read: “When April
with his showers sweet, the
drought of March has pierced
unto the root, and bathed each
vein with liquid that has power,
to generate therein and sire the
flower.” No matter the origin,
LODGE LANE is looking
forward to the warmer, brighter
days of Spring and her vast color
palette of flowers.

A VISIT FROM EMERALD
ISLE DANCE ACADEMY
Emerald Isle Dance Academy
visited LODGE LANE to share
the heritage of Irish Dance,
including the costumes worn
and the shoes designed for
different dances. The Academy
shared with visitors and
residents the history of the
dance and why the arms are kept
at the sides. There are a couple
of noted explanations by
scholars. The first was that it was
how they were able to express
themselves in the form of dance
without showing any movement
in the upper body, since the
British had passed a law making
it illegal to dance. The other
theory behind the dance
formation is that it was a way for
Irish to distinguish their own
style apart from the Scottish. The
afternoon was complete with a
demonstration of the dance. A
video clip can be found on the
Lodge Lane Facebook Page. See
the address listed below.
