Annual Report12/13
The Sherman Library
Annual Report
July 1, 2012 to June 30, 2013
Dear Friends:
For the past fifteen years, the Sherman Library
Association has been planning a renovated revitalized
and expanded facility. This past October we finally
broke ground and made our dream a reality. During
the last year, we were busy building the library and
continuing our Capital Campaign that funds the
building project.
We operated out of a temporary location and were
able to maintain many of the services you’ve come
to expect. We are grateful to local organizations who
provide space for library programs and libraries across
the state have helped fulfill patron requests due to
our limited space. Many thanks to the community for
their important support of our membership appeals,
the Town Grant, annual Holiday Party, seasonal book
sales and our summer BBQ. These provide funds for the
library annual budget and help keep our doors open.
We are so appreciative of our wonderful Board of
Trustees, staff and many volunteers that have made this
difficult transition appear seamless. Special thanks to
our fantastic building committee and our construction
manager for keeping the project on time and budget
and all the tradespeople who built this new facility.
There is great anticipation and excitement leading
to the opening of our beautiful facility. On behalf of
the Library Board President Karen Cushnie, Board
of Trustees and staff, I’d like to thank all the people
who supported us over the years and look forward to
welcoming everyone to the new Sherman Library.
Respectfully submitted,
Millie Loeb
Director of the Sherman Library

Staff & Volunteers
July 1, 2012 to June 30, 2013
The Sherman Library Association thanks all its volunteers for their outstanding support of the library. Over 130 adult and student
volunteers contributed hundreds of hours of their time and energy this past year. Whether participating as a member of our Board
of Trustees, manning the circulation desk or helping with fundraising events, volunteers are an integral part of our library each and
every day. These dedicated volunteers also work behind the scenes on a myriad of tasks. They maintain our building, organize the
book and barn sales, design print material, manage our holiday party, facilitate book discussions and present adult and children’s
programs. They stuff envelopes, change light bulbs, clean windows and move heavy boxes. Volunteers are instrumental talents behind
our building project and also important help during the library move. Sherman Library volunteers are committed and enthusiastic.
They give our library its character and personality. This devoted group, ranging from age nine to ninety, helps keep our library
running smoothly year after year.

Membership Contributions,
Grants, Gifts and Supporters
July 1, 2012 to June 30, 2013
The Sherman Library Association is most grateful for the generosity of our many supporters. Although we function as a public library for
the Town of Sherman we are a not-for-profit library. This means that our annual appropriation from the town provides a portion of our
operating budget. The remaining funds come from other sources, principally from our annual membership campaign, fundraising events,
grants and other donations.
