Moving From
Lower Prices
In an effort to reduce costs and improve efficiencies,
Annin & Co. is in the process of changing the method
of manufacture for most of its International flags
to Anco-Dyed production. Because of this ongoing
process we reduced the number of categories in
our International Flag pricing structure in 2007.
This resulted in lower prices on most of Annin’s
International Flags. The prices of the individual flags
are now based primarily on their sales volume.
In an effort to remain competitive in the marine market, Annin
& Co. has begun moving its production of International Code
Signal Flag Sets to Sri Lanka. Because of our reduced costs

Flags
Many of our customers advertise that a particular
flag is “All Sewn”. Please be careful if you advertise
this way because a flag that has historically been
sewn may now be a fully dyed flag. You can always
ask Customer Service to check on a method of
manufacture for a particular flag if it is important to
you or to your customer. Unfortunately there is no
list with which we can provide you because changes
by production are made weekly.
Annin & Co. has purchased a
second Reggiani Dream Machine.
The three-striped joined flags that are
very large selling flags, Ireland, Italy,
France and Germany will remain as
sewn for the foreseeable future.
we are now able to lower our selling prices to you.
Two of the sizes of the International Code Signal Sets have
already been reduced in price:
The Size 0 Code Signal Set,
item # 256000
The Size 3 Code Signal Set,
item # 256100
Watch for future
announcements about
price reductions on
other sized sets.
Individual code letters
with canvas heading
and grommets are still
made to order in our
Verona, NJ facility and
the prices of those
individual flags have
not changed.
All Code Signal Flag
Sets are made from
SolarMax nylon and
meet Annin’s high
standard of quality.
There’s Been
Some Changes Made...
St. Andrew’s Cross Flag
Many customers have called and
inquired as to why Annin has begun
manufacturing the St. Andrews Cross
flag with a lighter shade of blue than
had been made previously.
Most flag manufacturers, Annin &
Co. included, had historically been
manufacturing the St. Andrew’s Cross
flag with a darker blue, because it is
the same shade of blue that appears
on the United Kingdom flag and
the colors of the St. Andrews Cross
flag had not been specified. One of
the oldest international flags, the St.
Andrews Cross flag originated in the
9th century when whichever blue dyes
as were readily available were used out
of necessity.
In 2003 a committee of the Scottish
Parliament was formed to research and
define the correct color shade for the
St. Andrew’s Cross flag. The committee
recommended that the Scottish
Government (newly established in
July, 1999) adopt Pantone 300 as a
color standard.
Annin became aware of this change in
2007 when we began getting inquiries
from Scottish specialty stores wanting
to know when we were going to begin
making the St. Andrew’s Cross flag
with the recently defined lighter blue
color. We researched the data and
found that the lighter blue was indeed
the most correct and that all of the
flag makers in the United Kingdom
had been making using Pantone 300
(PMS 300 C).
State of Louisiana Flag
In 1912, one hundred years after
attaining state status, the legislature
of Louisiana adopted its official
state flag, featuring an image of a
mother pelican feeding her three baby
pelicans in their nest.
The X-shaped cross, or saltire, has always
been the symbol of St. Andrew, Scotland’s
patron saint, because he was crucified on a
diagonal cross.
Note: the flag shown in this photo is flying
in Scotland, hence the 1:2 proportions.
The symbol of the pelican
family has its origins in the
earliest days of Louisiana’s
settlement. Legend has it that
the state’s first residents were
impressed with the way the
mother pelicans would peck
at their own breasts until
they bled to provide nourishment for
their young when food sources were
The introduction of the Bill 833 was
prompted by research done by an eighth
grade Social Studies student
scarce. Even though the symbolism
of the blood being shed indicated the
sacrifices of the people of the state, the
blood drops were never shown in any
of the official illustrations.
After the tragedy of Hurricane
Katrina, a bill was enacted by the state
legislature to add the drops of blood
to the image of the mother pelican’s
breast. August of 2007 marked the
one –year anniversary of the passage of
Bill 833 but as yet no official artwork
has been provided by the State of
Louisiana nor can we confirm that
anyone is in the process of developing
any artwork.
In light of the demand for the
updated flag, Annin & Co. has begun
manufacturing Louisiana
state flags with three blood
drops in what we believe is
an appropriate placement.
Since we are not going to
destroy existing inventories
but replace depleted stock
with flags of the new design
it may be a few months
before all the sizes of the
Louisiana flag have the blood drops
appearing on the flag.
