RESPONSIBILITIES:
DPW is responsible for maintaining the overall look
and feel of the Borough throughout the year. We are
responsible for brush, grass and leaf collection as well
as the maintenance of Borough properties (buildings,
grass cutting, trees and fields); pothole repair, street
signs, line painting, snow removal, trash, recycling,
holiday decorations, banners and storm water
management. We also maintain the Borough’s
Sanitary Sewer System, including three sewer pump
stations.
enforced). Consider leaving grass clippings on your lawn
as fertilizer.
LEAVES: Collected between OCT 15 - DEC 15 during
NOV and DEC. Please adhere to the following guidelines:
 Consider mulching your leaves as compost for your
spring planting beds.
 Lawn service contractors must remove leaves from
your property.
 Rake your leaves to the curb, NOT INTO THE
STREET, no more than 7 days prior to collection.
 Leaf piles in the street cause flooding and drainage
problems during rainstorms. Do not place leaves
closer than 10 feet from any storm sewer inlet.
 Do not mix leaves and brush together.
SNOW REMOVAL: Property owners or tenants are
required to remove all snow and ice from sidewalks and
corners within 12 hours of daylight after a snowfall.
Additionally, it is helpful if you can clear the snow from in
front of fire hydrants and around storm water inlets. It is a
violation of Borough Code to put snow into the street –
violators will be fined. DPW plows Borough streets as
quickly as possible and may make several passes,
depending on the duration and amount of snowfall.
The following streets are maintained by Camden County
(856-566-2980): E. Atlantic Avenue, Highland Avenue,
Hillside Avenue, Kings Highway, N. Park Drive, S. Park
Drive, Prospect Ridge Blvd., Station Avenue, 9th Avenue
and 13th Avenue. New Jersey DOT (856-795-4735)
maintains the White Horse Pike (Rt. 30) and the Black

before, and by 6am the day of collection.
ELECTRONIC RECYCLING: Haddon Heights now

FIRST RESPONDERS’ REMINDER:
Our Fire and Police Departments as well as dispatched
Emergency Responders are repeating their request to residents
to make sure your house numbers are clearly visible from the
street.
Borough Ordinance No. 973 was adopted on April 5, 1995
and Chapter 144 of Borough Code provides the following
specifications for numbers, placement and violator penalties for
non-compliance:
A. In Arabic numbers
B. Minimum height of three inches
C. Mounted so as to be clearly visible from the street
D. Contrasting color to the background color it is mounted on
E. At least 60 inches above the road bed and placed so that
trees, scrubs, vines and other obstructions do not block
the line of sight of the numbers from the street.
Compliance is required for any sale, conveyance or other
transfer of real property. Non-compliance after two months of a
violation notice could result in “a maximum penalty of a fine not
exceeding $1,250 or by imprisonment for a period not exceeding
90 days or by a period of community service not exceeding 90
days, or any combination thereof.”
History
For the first decades of Haddon Heights’ development, residences
along East and West Atlantic and those fronting the White Horse
Pike were considered the most prestigious places to live. Some of
the grandest houses were built along these transportation
corridors where they had high visibility. Accordingly, the block
between Station Avenue and Green Street was completely
developed within a decade of the Borough’s 1904 founding. The
house at 109 E. Atlantic was built circa 1913 and is located within
Haddon Heights' local historic district. By 2010, the house had
fallen into disrepair and the property was purchased to provide
additional parking space for adjacent Stanfill Towers, an 123-unit
high rise senior citizen facility built in 1977. Sympathetic to the
seniors’ need for more parking, but concerned about the potential
loss of the historic house, Borough Planning Board members
suggested a compromise to allow the non-conforming parking in
the rear yard in exchange for preservation of the house. The new
facility held its grand opening on November 16, 2015.
Current Use
The Stanfill Manor Senior Center is an outreach project of the
Haddon Heights Senior Citizens Housing Corporation (HHSCHC)
which owns Stanfill Towers. HHSCHC decided to build on their
very successful social service program by creating a place for town
residents age 55 and older to obtain social services and
connections to help them “age in place.” This new inititative is
being led by a long time town resident, Nancy Cuomo, LCSW who
has over 30 years of social service experience dealing with senior
issues. Stanfill Manor welcomes all Haddon Heights residents to
visit our Senior Center. Free consultation is available on Monday,
Wednesday and Thursday from 10 am to 2 pm or by appointment or
telephone. For more information call (856) 546-2490 or visit our
page at: www.facebook.com/stanfillmanorseniorcenter
Sanborn Maps
The map on this page is an excerpt from the 1914 Sanborn Map of
Haddon Heights. The Sanborn Insurance Company produced
survey maps for communities nationwide to document buildings
and other features every few years. Maps of Haddon Heights from
1909, 1914, and 1922 are available at:

Another helpful resource for research in Haddon Heights is an
index of Borough directories from 1895, periodically until 1977:
http://www.haddonheightslibrary.com/citydirectory/
These directories are searchable by last name or street address.
For Stanfill Manor, the first occupants were Joseph P. and Carrie
Creely in 1915 followed by the Johnsons, Tegges, and Rushtons.

promote our local civic, faith-based, library,
