Insert cotter pin through ciamp tube and spread pm Cotter pin will keep clamp tube from turning. TABLE GUIDE GROOVES COTTER PIN '/." WASHER Put block spring thru first hole and into blind hole of clamp block Compress block spring slightly to ailow locking lever to besiid into slot of clamp block. Put spring over bump on locking lever. To assemble clamp block to clamp tube squeeze top tab of locking lever and clamp block. With fence ledge on clamp block toward table and % hole in clamp block hned up to hole in locking lever slide assembly on clarnp tube about 4" from end Any time clamp block needs to be moved on clamp tube, locking lever must be squeezed to release CLAMP KNOB FENCE LEDGE LOCKING LEVER BLOCK SPRING CLAMP BLOCK _J { - For permanent installation mount table to work bench thru five holes. (Use #12-1'/a wood screws not furnished) Clamp knob should extend to the front of work bench for hand clearance. Place letter carousel on protruding diameter of table. Open three cartons of letter and number templates and place each one between projections of carousel Location of each template is identified on outer rim. $. Router plate has guide tube and stylus tube riveted in place Thread 74-20 hex nut on guide pin Insert guide pin through end hole of guide tube from bottom and secure, using Vi" washer and V«-20 wing nut. TABLE GUIDE GROOVES LETTER CAROUSEL 7. Assemble "O" ring on stylus and up against head. Place stylus clamp over stylus tube lining up holes. (Use sixth hole from the end to start) Insert stylus through stylus clamp, through stylus tube and through clamp again, with head of stylus up. Locate 1/<-20 square nut in yoke of stylus clamp and screw clamp wing screw through clamp and square nut and tighten. Assemble #10-24 hex nut intcrhex'of stylus tip. Screw stylus tip on stylus with hex nut down. Use '/4-20 x 1 W square head bolt, (2) %" washers and Y..-2Q wing nut to secure tie bar to stylus tube using end hole in tie bar and last hole of stylus tube. Use 1/4- 20 flat head bolt, vi" washer and y4-20 wing nut to secure tie bar to guide tube. Square und< will be held by square hole m tube. 9 Press TUBE CAPS in end of stylus tube and guide tube. Operation "•0- Place router on center of router plate. Rotate r outer to get window approximately 'oward stylus bar so you can see router bit while routing. Secure router in place using #10-24 x 1 2 carriage bolts, router clamps and #10-24 wing nuts. Keep carriage bolts against^outer base for more secure clamping. ! urn lock knob until washer and knob are W from shoulder of clamp tube. (When clamping •Aorkpece knob must not bottom out) Place workpiece (1" x 6" scrap lumber) on ledge of tabie .ind clamp block. Pull clamp block up against workpice while holding lock knob against tabl-e. (Remember to squeeze locking lever to release.) Lift rear edge of workpiece to aiiow ledge of clamp block to come under workpiece. (Workpiece is now flat.) Turn lock knob to lock workpiece. (Do not overtighten.) c ROUTER WING NUTS CARRIAGE BOLTS 7/16 TURN STYLUS END FOR END TO USE 1-5/8 TEMPLATES THIS ENO DOWN FOR 2-3/4 TEMPLATES Make a sign on your 1" x 6" scrap board to practice using the Rout-A Signer Use a 1XB router bit and rout 2" high letters. Five adjustments are needed, they are in the chart on page 7. EASY DOES IT CLAMP BLOCK Check your setup 1. stylus hole - #6 2. dimension A — 245/16 (loosen wing nut and set stylus to guide pin dimension. 3. table groove — 11 4 tie bar hole — A 5. guide pin hole — D Take first letter to be routed from carousel and insert template in letter holder (identification circle should be up) Place left side under ledge o f letter holder and push right side down to rtop. then slide template to right. Template will snap in place under keeper. (Template will a little.) 1 i CLAMP WING SCREW LOCKING LEVER Place the 3/B" router bit in the router collet, leave it above the router base Adjust depth when ready to cut Set the five adjustments, usmg drawing on page 6 and the chart on page 7 -•- ROUTER CLAMPS STYLUS TUBE BRACKET 16 Locaie router bit on center of workpiece. Place guid<:> pin in guide grove # 1 1 (closest one to carousel). Loosen template holder thumb nuts and (.enter template under stylus, keeping router bit on center of workpiece. With letter holder square to f abie. retighten thumb nuts. i " Adjust router bit to desired depth ('/a" approximately). Lift router up so bit is off workpiece. Put stylus tip against edge of template, start router and slowly lowei bit into workpiece. Always start at the right side of letter and always finish at that same place ? This insures correct spacing.) Guide styius around template opening, holding tie bar with right hand and using left hand on stylus to ensure stylus is always in contact with template. After completing first letter, turn router off. NOTE: FOR PROPER SPACING, STYLUS MUST B€ AT THE P A R T OF THE LETTER FARTHEST TO THE RIGHT. Loosen styius wing screw, lift stylus !/j" and retighten wing .screw Turn clamp knob to loosen workpiece. Push workpiece to left carrying router until stylus contacts spacing bar. (Bit is still in routed groove.) Reciamp workpiece. '9. Remove template of letter just routed by pushing down on left side and slide template to left until right side :s free to come up Replace template in carousel. Get next template to be routed and place it in template holder. ; 0. Raise styius bar. loosen stylus wing screw and allow stylus to fall until "O" ring contacts stylus damp. Retighten wing screw. Guide pin should be in Hole C of guide tube. Stylus should be in hole #1 of stylus bar. Adjust dimension A to a lesser amount to increase letter neight Letters smaller than 1" will be approximately 4" from fence, and routed on a 6" or wider workpiece and trim to desired location on finished sign. To engrave 2 or 3 line signs, determine width of workpiece and letter height Lay out location of each line m pencil on the workpiece YOUR TRIM A W A Y CENTER OF TOP LINE (> ."PIE. CENTER OF BOTTOM LI To get 2 lines 2" high using a 3/8" bit on an d" board, set router plate and frame using chad for 2" letters with j/8" bit. Gut a trial letter on scrap wood to check letter height, if letter is too tall, dimension A should be increased. It letter is too short, reduce dimension A. LETTER HEIGHT 24. Place guide pin in groove 1 1 and place router bit on center of where the bottom line will be. Put template o< first letter to be routed in the letter holder. Loosen thumb nuts and slide letter holder mtii letter opening is centered under stylus Rout bottom line. i e guide pin in groove 5 and place router bit on center of where top line will be routed. Put template of first letter to be routed in the letter holder. Loosen thumb nuts and slide letter holder until letter opening is centered under stylus. Be -••• to line up start with bottom line and rout top line 26. The 11 grooves on table are used when routing 2 or more lines on one board: 2 line signs use grooves 11 and 5 3 line signs use grooves 11,6 and 1 4 lines signs use grooves 9, 7. 5 and 3 HELPFUL HINTS Spacing between letters can be adjusted to three different amounts, by using one of the three spacing holes m template holder. To make routing long signs easy, additional support will be helpful. Cut a 11/«" high board by 30" long. Drill a clearance hole for the clamp tube and screw to clamp block using hotes in clamp block.
