2. GENERAL DESCRIPTION
2.1. Introduction
MobiLink or Voxell represents a digital mobile phone interface that uses 2G/3G wireless modules for
voice communications and SMS transmissions. The version using two telephone interfaces at the
same time, FXS and FxO, is the most versatile. Other verisons of MobiLink and Voxell can feature a
single FXS port of two interface, but not available at the same time. These reduced models have
fewer features available!
MobiLink is connected to a PABX via FXS and FXO ports, to an analog telephone via its FXS interface,
or to the public fixed telephony network through its FXO port . The MobiLink device may
afterwards be accessed from every local extension of the phone exchange. Also, each local
subscriber connected to the PABX can be reached from GSM mobile phones in the field at the most
favorable mobile phone tariff via the MobiLink interface. If a call is issued from a local subscriber, it
will be routed by MobiLink either through the mobile module or towards the PSTN.
If you have a small phone exchange and all FXO junctions are already busy, MobiLink can be
connected to the PBX as a local subscriber.
In case of a larger PBX, several MobiLink units may be used together, either to access different
mobile carriers, or to increase the capacity, allowing multiple calls at the same time.
The MobiLink may be configured efficiently and user-friendly by means of the OAM program
“MLINKoam”, which runs as a Windows application. Only MobiLink may benefit of all the features of
the OAM program, for the lesser versions, some functions are not available!
The same program is also used to store on your PC the billing files, to save / reload configuration
parameters, or to upload a new firmware to the Topex box.
This document includes information on installation, configuration, and usage of the OAM program.

MobiLink may be fitted with
a real time clock (RTC),
supplied by a special backed
up battery. This allows usage
of several additional
features, such as the “GSM
Minutes”, that lets you limit
the number of minutes of
conversation used on the
mobile module.
If you need to talk to several people at once, you can establish a multi-way conference by means of
MobiLink, joining in a call up to five mobile subscribers, if your mobile carrier allows this.
The MobiLink device may be configured efficiently and user-friendly by means of the OAM program
“MLINKoam”, which runs as a Windows application. The program is also used to store on your PC the
billing files, to save / reload configuration parameters, or to upload a new firmware to the Topex
box.
This document includes information on installation, configuration, and usage of the OAM program.

2.2. Installing the program
This OAM program is intended for the configuration and administration of the MobiLink equipment
via USB. Also, the program allows you to send and receive SMS messages from the computer that is
connected to the equipment. The same USB port can be used for data transmission.
The serial connection is made by means of
the standard USB A to B cable (which
supplied in the MobiLink package).
This cable features an USB-B male
connector for connection to the MobiLink
unit and a standard USB A connector for the
USB port of the desktop PC or notebook
computer you use to configure and
administrate the equipment.
To be able to use the USB interface of MobiLink, you must first perform the USB driver installation
USB (see chapter 6.1. of the Installation manual).
For this, you launch the “PL-2303 Driver Installer.exe” application, which can be found on the
installation CD / diskette. The same installation CD / diskette supplied with the equipment include
the OAM (Operation, Administration, and Maintenance) software and the user manual in electronic
format.
The MLINKoam.exe program is a self-contained Win 32 executable and may run on any desktop PC
or laptop that does fulfill the following minimal requirements:
- Operating system: Windows 98 or later versions
- Minimum processor 486
- Recommended minimum 500 MB free space on HDD
- Minimum 256 MB of RAM
- One USB port free (available for the connection), which is used also for data transfer
- Graphics resolution 1024 by 768 pixels - colors High Color (16bit) or True Color (32bit)

The OAM program does not require a special installation; you simply copy it to a location of you
choice. Just insert the diskette or CD into the respective disk drive unit and copy the structure of
folders and files to your hard disk drive. Then run the file MLINKoam.exe the directory on your hard
disk.
This is the recommended procedure.
But even if you have copied only the executable application, upon first run, it will create the
required auxiliary files and sub-folders for the configuration and log files: CONFIG, OUT, SAVED.
In these directories the OAM program will store all configuration files, files with information about
SMS sent and received, settings, saved configurations, and other information.

directory directly or via a shortcut
symbolic link that can be created manually

3. Configuration of the MobiLink
The Topex box is configured and managed with the aid of the MLINKoam.exe application.
After starting the application by double-clicking the
application’s icon and achieving a successful
connection to the MobiLink box, the main window of
the OAM program opens up.
On top it shows tabs for “file cards” corresponding to different function groups, such as
Status, GSM, FXS, FXO, Routing, Terminal and so on. When you click on a tab, the
corresponding “file card” opens up, such as the Status screen shown below in the middle of a
call:

The tabs are arranged on the menu bar in a logical order, for an ergonomic, easy to use
configuration. You may go easily form one tab to the next, or to a different one. These file cards
corresponding to configuration screens are, from left to right:
- Status, displays the current state of all the ports of the equipment;
- GSM, displays info about subscriber card and GSM module and sets up the mobile interfaces
of the MobiLink device. Lets you configure all parameters related to the respective mobile
network;
- FXS, allows configuration of all parameters for the subscriber interface;
- FXO, allows configuration of all parameters for the FXO interface;
- Routing, table where you define the rules for routing of the outgoing calls;
- CLIP List, defines a list of forwarding or reject operation for the incoming calls;
- Tone&Ring Settings, you can defines custom tones for dial, busy and ring;
- Timers, you set the values for several timings;
- Password, allows you to change the password for access to OAM program;
- SMS, for sending and receiving SMS messages and archiving the received messages;
- Terminal, direct connection to the GSM module for sending AT commands and following the
response to these commands.
The significance and usage of all these tabs will be fully described later on, in Chapter 5.
Warning: in the following pages you will see concrete examples of settings. Please remember that
the direction names, operator names, phone numbers, the caller identities, local extensions, IMSI
codes and other values used in this manual are for example purposes only;

4. CONNECTION
To achieve a connection between the OAM program running on your computer and the MobiLink box,
you must perform these steps:

After calling up the application MLINKoam.exe, first go to the Application Parameters tab
and set correctly the number of the USB port to be used for the USB data link to the OAM
application:

- the program asks you for the access password. The default password is “mlink”:
- of course, if you type the password incorrectly, you will get an error message:
Try again, more carefully!
- when the port is correct, but the OAM application cannot find a connected MobiLink device, it will
issue this error message:
This can happen in several cases: missing or defective USB cable, no equipment is present, the
MobiLink box is not powered up, etc.
- after successful log-in, the first tab of the menu bar, “Status”, will open up on your screen:

If you want to go to another file tab, for instance FXO, just click the corresponding tab and the
respective file will come to the foreground and its contents will be shown on the screen:

Note - Most of the tab functions of OAM require online connection
to the MobiLink device, but for the functions from the Options
menu the reverse holds true - when the program is connected to
the MobiLink box, as shown in this image, only the option “Save
Current Config To File” is active, the rest are colored in gray
indicating that they are not available!
Almost all the functions from the Options menu are available in an
offline (disconnected) state, as shown here.
For example, with the “View Config File” you can view one of the
configurations that was saved previously:
Select from the list the configuration of interest to you from the default folder or use “Browse” to
look for it on the hard disk drives. Then click “Load” to load the chosen configuration file:

The tabbed Menu will show up, but not all of the tabs will be present this time, some file cards
make sense only in a connected state:

there are no “Save”
buttons present in
the screens.
All these differences happen because you can only see a configuration previously saved, you cannot
edit it!

Connection state
To summarize, the OAM program can be in one of these three states of connection to a Topex box
- Online, the program is actually connected to the MobiLink equipment.
The state of the USB port, indicated at the bottom, can be either Closed,
meaning the program is not exchanging information or data with the Topex box,
or Opened, when the program interrogates the equipment:
For instance, when you are in the SMS file tab, the OAM program is in stand-by,
you can view, filter or delete the messages without need of actual connection to
the Topex box, the communication port is closed.
When you press the button “Read”, the program goes active and
interrogates the Topex box for SMS messages received. For this the
port will be opened

- Offline, when no MobiLink equipment is connected, but you may use the OAM
program to see a saved configuration, to perform Save or Load, to upload a new
firmware image, or to see the SMS messages sent and received by means of the Topex box:

5. DESCRIPTION OF OPTIONS
On top of the OAM screen you have the items
„Options” and respectively „About”.
The tab <<Application Parameters>> has a singe
item, „Serial Port”, used to change the number of
the USB port where MobiLink is connected.
This is not used very often, you just set the COM
port at the beginning, and whenever you change the
USB assignment. When
Options is by far the most important, since it allows
access to many functions:
Connect / Disconnect,
Save Config file and Load saved Config File to Unit,
View Config File (offline),
Upload a new firmware image to the MobiLink unit,
View SMS Records (offline) or
Upload Factory Default settings for the Topex box.
Also, from this menu you can quit the OAM program
with Exit.

5.1 Connect
Use this to connect with the OAM program to a Topex box.
The
program
will ask you
for the
password:
Enter the
default
password to
connect
“mlink”.
After successful connection, you can change this default, generic password with one of your own
choosing.
REMEMBER to change the default password with one of your own!
5.2 Disconnect
When you are connected to MobiLink
equipment, the first available in the menu
“Options” is … Disconnect:
This means that, if you want to Load a
configuration, to view an older
configuration file, to restore the factory
default settings, or to upload a new
firmware image, etc, you must first
perform a Disconnect from the current
state.
The other items available are Save
Current Config and Exit, to quit the OAM
program.

5.3 View Config File
You can use this option, in a disconnected state (as you can see,
now the option “Connect” is available, which means that you are
NOT connected to MobiLink), to view a configuration file that you
have saved previously.
Since you are not actually connected to the Topex box, you can
only see the configuration, you cannot perform changes of the
parameters, hence the name “View” for this option.
When you click “View Config File” form the menu Option, the
window <<Viewing CONFIGURATIONS>> shows up:
The saved “.cfg” files are listed with their names, length in bytes, and creation date (date + time).
The list opens up to the default SAVED folder, if you have configurations stored in another place on
the PC, use the button “Browse” to navigate to the respective disk drive or folder:

Select the one you want to load, then click the button “Load” to load it.

First of all, notice that not all the tabs for card files are present in the menu, only the first ones.
See below for comparation the tabs menu in a Connected state:
Password, SMS and Terminal are not shown because they cannot perform in a disconnected (Offline) state. This disconnected state is also indicated by the status box at the bottom left of the
screen, which shows “Offline” on a light blue background, instead of the “Port open” or “Port
closed” indication in a connected state.
Second, the “Save” button is missing from all the screens of the OAM program.
This is because you can only view a configuration that has been saved previously, you cannot
perform changes, and you are not allowed to modify the settings.
5.4 Saving and loading system configurations
After “View”, there are two Menu options for saving and
respectively loading configurations from / to the MobiLink box.
Those functions are normally valid only in the situation when the
OAM program is not in a state of connection with MobiLink
(although you can also use Save when the OAM program is
connected to the Topex box) .
As you can see in the image to the right, the option Connect is
available while Disconnect is disabled, this means you are currently
NOT connected to the MobiLink equipment.
To save a configuration click the “Save Current Config To File” from the icon and the following
dialog window shows up:
- first, the program asks you for the access password:

- if you typed the correct password, a window shows up asking you a NAME for the saved
configuration, you should enter a meaningful name (relevant for the respective set of
parameters):

- the saving of the configuration begins, you will see a progress indicator for each item
(GSM settings, Tone Settings, Routing table, CLIP table):
- after successful saving of all components, a confirmation message will be displays,
telling you that the “Configuration was saved!!”:
By default, the saved configuration is located in the “SAVED” sub-directory of the folder were
you have placed the OAM program:
In this subfolder are located all the saved configurations (sets of parameters for MobiLink).
They are files with the "cfg" extension that is added by the program to the name you have filled in.
The configuration contains the settings for targets, routing table, CLIP-GSM table, definition of
tones, values for timers, etc..

5.5 Load Configuration
To load a new configuration, or to restore a configuration that you have saved, that is to load the
configuration file to the MobiLink box, the respective equipment must also be in a “disconnected”
state.
From the Menu Options, select “Load Config File to Unit”:
The OAM program asks you for the password.
Enter the password “mlink”, then a list “Viewing Configurations” shows up:
The list shows the names of the saved configuration files, their length in bytes, and the date and
time of creation (date-month-year hour-minutes).

Select from the list the configuration
from the default subfolder or use
“Browse” button to look for it.
Use Open, then “Load” to upload the
configuration to the Topex box!
Unlike viewing a stored configuration, which was
immediate, now the loading takes some time, and
the program will show a progress bar for each item
that is loading, as it is shown here:
When the loading operation is successfully ended (the
CLIP table is the last item), it will display a success
message: “Configuration was loaded!”
Note: It is strongly recommended that before loading a new image file, you save the current
configuration, then load it again when MobiLink operates with the new firmware. This way you are
sure that all your settings will be kept. This is especially important when you have configured
many rules in Routing table or CLIP list, so if you loose these settings, you will need a long time to
write them again!
5.6 View SMS

Select the “View SMS Records” item from the Options menu to
view the stored SMS messages form an off-line (disconnected)
state:
A window named “SMS” shows up, listing the text messages:
If there are many messages in the list, you can use the scrollbar to the right to move up and down in
the list of SMS messages
Also, or you may define in the box to the right a certain time period to filter out or to delete the
saved text messages. For instance, the example below shows filtering of sent / received messages
when the time period is set to the month of September only, from the fist up to 30:

Since the Topex box is not currently connected, you cannot transmit or receive text messages, you
can only see the ones already stored by the OAM program.
5. 7 Upload image
This facility allows you to up-load to the Topex box a new software image, a version of the firmware
application running on the MobiLink system (to perform a firmware update).
Using the MLINKoam.exe application, a new version of the firmware can be transferred to the
Topex box via the serial data link. Before you do this, first check the version of the firmware
running on your device, to avoid uploading an older or incompatible software image:
The current version of the firmware used in
MobiLink is displayed, in a connected state, at the
bottom right corner of the OAM screen, below the
Topex logo, such as “Mlink 1.07” in the exemple
to the left or respectively “Mlink 1.23” in the
exemple to the right:
Warning! This is a two-step operation, because to find out the version, you must be in a state
of connection between OAM and box, the bottom left indicator should show either the red
indication “Port opened” or the blue “Port closed”
but afterwards, to actually load the image file, the program must
be disconnected form the MobiLink box. Select Options>Disconnect,
the USB port indicator will show “Offline” :

then from the same Options menu, select “Upload Image to
Unit”:
The program will display the normal Windows dialog for opening
files, where default type is “image file”.
Go to the folder that stores the firmware images, such as “Updates” on the C: drive in this example
Open this folder, and from it select the “------------.hex” file that is to be transferred to the
MobiLink box, such as mlinkfx108_c.hex in this example:

By clicking on the “Open“ button, the OAM asks you for the password.
If you type a wrong password, you will get an error message as shown:
if you have entered the correct password, the transfer of the firmware image file to the MobiLink box
begins. The new software image is divided in several successive packets which are sent to the
MobiLink box via serial connection. The reception of each packet must be confirmed by the
equipment. As the software is up-loaded as, a progress bar shows the transfer of each packet.
The message displayed is “Loading new image xxx/yyy”,
where xxx is the number of the current package and yyy
is the total number of packets of the file, such as 141 in
the example to the right:

Should the connection between MobiLink and
the OAM program be temporary broken, or if
the image file is corrupted, you will get an
error message saying “Upload timeout! “
When it is finished, you see “141/1410” ,
meaning all packets have been transferred,
and an additional message for confirmation of
the successful up-loading of the new firmware:
- to ensure proper operation, the unit with the new firmware should be restarted, by performing a
“Reset“ - pull off he power supply jack then plug in back after 10 seconds.
- now you can connect again with the OAM program to the MobiLink unit, which runs the new
firmware.
To verify that the firmware update has been successful, look at the message
displayed below the blue “Topex” logo. Now it should say <<Mlink 1.17>>,
thus indicating that the software current running on the MobiLink box is
version mlink 1.08 instead of the previous revision1.08.
Attention: The files to be loaded have the extension "hex" . To avoid malfunctions, only files approved
by TOPEX should be loaded into the device. The image files are available form the website of the
TOPEX company.
In case of a power failure during reprogramming of the device or any other event that invalidates
the program storage of the MobiLink, the unit could become non-operational. In this case you should
call SERVICE to perform software repairs.
Important notices related to the loading of a new version of application software into MobiLink.
Be careful when you load an update file. If you select a wrong kind of file, or if for different
reasons firmware upgrading fails, the MobiLink equipment will no longer operate correctly. In
some cases you will need to contact the manufacturer for repairs. To avoid this, follow carefully
the rules indicated here:

• Always backup!
Remember that updating the firmware on the Topex LCR box could cause some or all of the
configuration settings to be lost, depending on the degree of change in the firmware.
Therefore it is highly recommended that you save your current configuration before updating, then
you restore it.
Before loading of the image file (menu "Loading Image File") it is strongly recommended that you
save the current configuration of your MobiLink unit. Click the icon "Save current configuration".
Then, after you performed the loading of image file, reload the saved configuration by clicking the
icon "Load configuration".
If you don’t do this your settings may be lost upon loading a new image file.
• Correct version
Make sure that you get the correct version. First, you want to make sure that the file you load is
newer than your current firmware version. Second, check that it is the variant that is right for your
equipment.
• No interruption
Never turn off the MobiLink equipment or the computer while the firmware is being overwritten.
Make sure that the adapter and your PC don’t turn off during update. It is better to use an
uninterruptible power supply (UPS) for this purpose.
• Resuming after an interruption:
If the loading of the image file is interrupted (the mains power fails, the operating system on the PC
stops, the cable is disconnected, etc) before reaching its normal ending, the new software may not
be fully installed so the equipment it won’t work.
To correct this, you should first reset MobiLink (by taking off the supply jack for ten seconds) and
try again to load the image file.
If this is not successful, you must change a jumper setting to perform forced loading of the
application.
JP 2 is located near the top left corner of the printed circuit board of MobiLink, between the mobile
module and the three indicator LEDs (see its position in the following image):

You must follow the procedure steps described below:
- power down Topex MobiLink (unplug the supply adapter),
- open the plastic case of the device and look at the printed circuit board,
- locate jumper JP2 (top right, near the three indicator LEDs, as shown in the drawing) and
place a jumper cap on these two pins,
- start up the OAM application with the “l” option. For this you go to the MS-DOS command line
prompt and type: “MLINKoam.exe –l” ,
- from the OAM program select the menu Options “Upload Image to Unit”,
- choose the image file you want to load into the MobiLink equipment. Note that in this forced
mode of operation the authentication by password will not be requested anymore ,
- after the loading of the image file is ended, power down MobiLink,
- remove the jumper from pins JP2,
- close the case of MobiLink equipment and tighten the screws.
Now MobiLink can be used normally with the new image file.

Explanation:
In normal operation, the bootloader is started first, upon power-up of MobiLink box.
When the loading of a new image file has been interrupted before normal termination, the program
loaded in memory may be corrupted, so it won’t work correctly.
To remediate this, you must place a jumper on pins JP2 to force the bootloader to start.
Then it can load the application and download a new (correct) image file for MobiLink.
To avoid going to the command prompt or
using the Run option in the Windows Start
menu, you could create a shortcut for
launching the OAM application with the “l” parameter.
If you click the “Loader” shortcut instead
of the MLINKoam application itself, it will
automatically launch the program with the
option “-l”, thus forcing the loading.
This shortcut may have associated a
different icon, so you know which is the
normal program and which for emergency
repair:

5.8 Upload Factory Setting
You may need to restore the default settings on the MobiLink box (the initial configurations from
the factory). Use this command to delete all current parameters and reinstate the parameters that
were established by the manufacturer. For this you must perform the following steps:
- start the OAM program, the OAM is not connected to the Topex box;
- from the Menu “Options”, select “Upload factory Settings”:

you must Log-in, the program asks you for the password:

if you have typed the correct password (mlink), the program quickly uploads the default
settings to the MobiLink equipment and shows a confirmation message:

now you may connect to the box for performing the required configurations, or to load a
configuration that was saved previously.

5.9 Exit - Exit from the OAM program
In a connected state, you should first Disconnect the OAM
program from the box, then click Exit to quit the OAM
program.
If you try to select the option Exit directly, you will see that
it does not work, you must first click Disconnect …
5.10 About
To the right of the “Options” item, you have “About”.
It is available in any state: equipment connected or
disconnected, port open or closed.
Select “about” to see the current version of the OAM
software running on your PC.

6. CONNECTION EXAMPLES
Before studying how to make use of the OAM tabs to set up routing rules, it is useful to
review the possible modes of using MobiLink together with a PABX private exchange.
In the following pages there are shown a few examples of interconnecting the MobiLink
equipment.
6.1 LCR connected on its FXO interface to a subscriber interface of PABX.
Typical application in a company that has a private branch exchange.
The FXO connector of the Topex box is linked to a FXS junction of the PABX, another trunk of the
PABX goes to the public phone network, while the FXS port of the equipment may be linked to an
analog fixed phone.
Outgoing from PABX
If the call is to mobile network, the PABX routes it to through the TOPEX MobiLink unit. The
numbering is sent through the junction of the PBX to the FXO connector of the MobiLink interface.
MobiLink may performs or not further routing. The call will be routed according to the number
dialed to the respective mobile operator
If the number dialed is for the public LCR network, the PABX routes it through trunk connected
directly to the public network, by-passing the MobiLink unit.
Outgoing from telephone
If your call is to mobile network, MobiLink LCR routes it via its mobile module. If the call is to PSTN
or other networks, the toper box routes it through trunk connected it to the PABX.
Incoming from GSM to PABX
From the 2G/3G network an incoming call will be forwarded either to the FXS interface with the
analog phone or to the FXO interface connected to the PBX. The decision is taken depending upon
the CLIP GSM table. If the incoming phone number is not found in the table, decision is taken
depending on routes from the GSM module. The options involved are DISA and the Target settings
(from the CLIP table or from the GSM settings).
The destination of the call will be a specific local extension of the PABX or the operator of the
exchange.
6.2 MobiLink used for SOHO
Connection similar to the previous one, but used at home or in a (very) small office.
Since there is no PBX, the FXO connector of the TOPEX LCR box is connected directly to the
outgoing line of the PSTN. The obvious application is least cost routing of the outgoing calls – if they
are for the mobile network where your SIM is registered, they will go out via the GSM module, while
the other calls will be directed to the public telephony network.
But you can also use MobiLink to cut down mobile costs! You are out in the field and you call from
your cell phone the number of the SIM card used in MobiLink. The equipment answers, ad provides
you with DISA tone. Now you can dial in your PSTN destination!
This works fine when interconnection fees are high, so the cost of a mobile to mobile call plus the
cost of the PSTN-to-PSTN call comes less than the cost of a mobile to PSTN call.

6.3 MobiLink connected on its FXS interface with PABX and with the FXO interface with
the PSTN.
This is especially useful when you have a phone exchange with a small number of trunks (outgoing
lines) available. You don’t want to “waste” a trunk only for MobiLink! So you can insert the Topex
equipment between the PBX and the public telephony network. MobiLink is connected through FXO
interface directly to the public telephony network, and with its FXS to the PBX.
This way, the MobiLink unit is inserted transparently between the PBX and the public network..
Incoming to PABX
The calls from the public telephony network are transferred transparently towards the PABX.
The calls coming in from the 2G/3G networks are analyzed by checking the identity in the CLIP-GSM
table.
If the ID is missing or the caller is not found in the CLIP-GSM records, routing will be performed by
MobiLink according to the settings of the GSM module.
The incoming calls from the mobile network can be routed either through DISA or with help of a
human operator, which answers the extension ”Target”.
6.4 MobiLink connected on its FXS interface with a FXO junction of PABX and with its
FXO interface to a local subscriber interface of the same PABX.
In this configuration, both ports of the Topex box are used for connection to the private branch
exchange. This allows “fine tuning” of the routing of calls according to their ID, if your PBX does not
perform this. The Clip List of MobiLink can store up to 50 records, defining advanced routing
options according to the ID of the caller.

Outgoing from PABX
The outgoing calls exit through the FXO connector of the PABX which is linked to the FXS interface
of MobiLink . The PABX directs the calls to mobile networks through the MobiLink unit. The calls will
be routed according to the number dialed through GSM . If the number dialed is for the public
PSTN network, the PABX will route the call through another FXO junction, directly to the public
network.
Incoming to PABX
Calls from mobile networks get into PABX via the FXO connector of the Topex LCR unit.
When a GSM call comes in, if the setting in the “GSM“ window is target , the call will go to the
local extension you have specified in the field “Target No”.
Since MobiLink is connected to a local extension via FXS, for the PABX this is the same as if it were
a local call!
If the setting is DISA, the caller gets a DISA tone and he can dial any local subscriber he wishes.
Also, he can make calls to the public network, acting as a local subscriber of the PBX.
Incoming calls from the 2G/3G networks will be forwarded to the FXO interface by checking the
identity in the CLIP-GSM table and in case of missing ID or number not found in the records, by
checking the GSM port settings..
6. 5 Using several MobiLink units
It is possible that you need to connect more than one MobiLink to the same PABX. For example, you
want to use two or more mobile operators for optimal routing. For instance, in Romania there are
four different mobile network providers. Alternately, you may want to have several 2G/3G modules
for the same operator, if there is an intense GSM traffic or if you have established that when one
2G/3G module is busy, the call to be routed through another module. In this case several MobiLink
units (two, three or more) will be used with the same PABX..

6. 6 General Routing Considerations
Here are shown some general routing consideration for the calls made via MobiLink via its three
ports.
6.6.1 GSM port
The settings for routing are:
- IN and OUT, which allow the respective calls,
- DISA, that makes use of dialing in by using DTMF,
- Direction, assigns the mobile module to a trunk,
- Target type, where you select either FXS or FXO,
- and Target, where you enter the number of the
destination of the call coming in via mobile module.
- incoming call :
- if you have checked DISA – this is relevant only when the ports FXS and FXO are
present.
- dial the number you want using DTMF, it will be analyzed and outputted towards
the FXO, or a call is made to the FXS
- when DISA is checked, the call is directed to the port number you have filled in the
target field, such as the local extension “283”;
- if the Target Type is FXO, then the FXO interface is engaged and the number you
have entered in the field Target is sent in DTMF mode. The call from GSM will be
answered, because there is no information about the beginning of the conversation from
the FXO interface
- when the Target Type is FXS instead of FXO, a call will be generated to FXS and the
call coming in from GSM is answered when the FXS subscriber picks up the phone.
- outgoing call
- the mobile module has associated a direction name (by default trunk 0); if the
number dialed over FXO (in DISA mode) or over FXS directly corresponds to the direction
associated with the mobile module, the call will be made via this GSM module. If the
number corresponds to another direction, it will be routed to the respective interface, and
if it corresponds to no real interface (Trunk 3), the call will be rejected, the caller will hear
busy tone!
- GSM in mode DISA - it waits for the reception of the whole numbering from the
mobile network (either the number of digits specified in the Routing table is reached or a
“#” character is encountered) and then it is sent to the FXO interface.

6.6.2 FXS Settings
The FXS interface is associated with a direction name
(trunk 2 typically), it is relevant for a call coming in
DISA mode either from the GSM module or from the
FXO interface
6.6.3 FXO Settings
For the FXO interface, the settings for routing are:
- Action, select either enables DISA, that makes use of
dialing in by using DTMF, or uses a target,
- generate or not Dial tone for outgoing calls,
- Target type, where you select either FXS or GSM,
- and Target, where you enter the number of the
destination of the call coming in via FXO interface.
- Direction, assigns the FXO port to a trunk,
- incoming call:
- if you have checked DISA
- upon detection of ring signal, the call is answered, dial tone is generated or not
according to the setting in Category, digits are received in DTMF and according to the routing
table.
According to “Target type”, either a call towards GSM with the phone number will be
initiated, or ringing signal is sent to the FXS interface.
- if the checkbox DISA is not marked
- upon detection of ring signal, the call is directed to the port that you have entered
in the field Target Type. Thus, if the target in a mobile phone number, a call will be initiated
towards the mobile network, using the phone number form the field target; should the
Target type be FXS, then a call is sent to the FXS interface
- Settings
- FXO has associated a direction name, typically Trunk1 ;
- when the number dialed over the FXS or GSM ports in mode DISA corresponds to the
direction associated with the FXO port, the call will be performed via this port!
- Forking action
When “forking timer” is set to a value instead of the default OFF, and the incoming FXO call
is directed to FXS, MobiLink can perform a “forking” for the call. After the preset delay, a call is
initiated also to the mobile number set in the target filed of the FXO tab. Whoever answers first
(either the FXS extension or the mobile number) gets the call form FXS, and the other call is
stopped.

7. DESCRIPTION OF TABS
On the Menu, below Options, a menu bar is shown, containing several tabs for file cards.
Their number depends of the connection state when the program is connected to a Topex
box, all the tabs are available, while in offline mode of operations, only some of the tabs
are shown. Clicking on a tab brings to the front the respective file card (screen of settings).
These tabs are described from left to right:
7.1. Status
The first tab shows the status of the MobiLink equipment.
There are shown the state of each port of the device, and the current level of the signal of the
mobile network.

7.1.1 Port Status
To the left, it is shown the state of the three ports (GSM, FXS and
FXO) of the equipment. The first letter specifies the port: mobile,
fxs or fxo. A short text explains the status: mobile initializing,
mobile registered, mobile active, mobile alerting, mobile SIM fail,
mobile PIN code request, mobile incoming call, mobile monitoring,
mobile data mode, FXS on hook, off hook, ringing, and so forth. The
background of each port is colored according to the respective
state: blue is for standby (available but not in use), yellow for active
(call in progress), red for an alarm condition.
GSM Status
The first field displays the current state of the GSM module.
Of course, “m-reg“ meaning module registered is the normal state.
The different states have associated specific background colors - blue for registered but not busy
for conversation or incoming call, yellow for module in a call or preparing for calls, red for errors
(the module is not available for calls).
Error (red) states:
RPS – the GSM module is powered off.
This can happen, for instance, when the module is NOT selected in the configuration. When neither
Incoming calls nor Outgoing calls are checked , the equipment shuts down the power supply for the
respective mobile module.
SIM_fail - SIM card failed or not ready.
This message is shown also when no SIM is present in the slot of the respective module, or the card
is defective – the GSM module fails to detect a valid subscriber card..
unreg – the module is NOT registered M_unreg – module unregistered.
The SIM card is currently not registered to the mobile carrier. It may be, for example, that the level
of the RF signal is too low.
m_pin_req – the “PIN request” option is activated, the SIM card ask you for the PIN code and waits
for it
m_pin_err - SIM PIN code error , the SIM card request a PIN code and the value that has been
entered is not correct!
M_puk_req – PUK request, the PIN code has been entered incorrectly three times, the SIM asks for
the PUK code in order to unlock
m_oforbid – operator forbidden, the module is locked to a certain mobile carrier and is forbidden to
work with another provider, you try to use a SIM card from another mobile operator.

Blue states
These are stand-by states, the module is registered, but not active, it is available for calls.
module registered, the normal standby state – the module is
registered with the mobile voice / data network, no calls are present.

Yellow states
These are active or transition states.
INIT - module is in the initialization phase, initialized using AT
commands. This is a normal start-up phase, the module is not currently available for calls but will
be as soon as it registers with the mobile network.
dialing – the mobile module is dialing. An outgoing call is routed
through this module and it is in the phase of dialing the phone number of the destination. This
phase, typically five seconds long, holds between sending out ATD (the mobile number of the
destination) and receiving the ring-back tone.

7.1.2 Strength
To the right the strength of RF signal is shown.
The window periodically runs monitoring over the respective GSM
module, in order to read the status, the reception level (shown in
dBm), and other information, such as the identification of the
technology for the current mobile network.
The level of the signal received from the mobile network is displayed in three different modes:
- graphically, as an indicator bar, with one, two or more blue rectangles showing the level of
the RF signal
- as a precise, absolute value, from two to three figures, such as -105 or -71. It is expressed in
dBm. The dB values are negative, so a higher signal level will show as a lower number. The
maximum possible signal level is -53dBm!
- as a relative value on a scale from 0 (minimum) up to 31 (the maximum). For instance, the
strength of -103 dBm is equivalent to the relative value of 5, while -65 dBm shows a relative
value of 24 (out of the 31 maximum).
Each mode of display has its advantages:
- the graph made of rectangles is the fastest to be seen, but not
very precise,
- the absolute value is the most accurate, but not so fast to
read,
- the relative scale is particularly useful for making
comparations between different types of external antennas,
their locations or the orientation, if directional aerials are
used.
In the images to the right you can see some examples of
indications in the field “Strength”, with increasing levels of the
radio signal:
Of course, the signal strength can be displayed only in an operational state of the mobile module,
that is when it is active, registered, dialing, in a call, incoming, data etc.
When the module is in one of the state
marked with red background (power
on, RPS, Sim fail, PIN error etc) or
while the module is initializing, the
information about level of the RF signal
is not available.
The “Status“ window periodically runs monitoring over the respective GSM module, in order to read
the reception level (shown in dBm), the state of the module, etc, so there is no need for a
“Refresh” button, you just wait a few seconds to be sure that the data displayed are properly
updated .

7.1.3 FXS and FXO Status
The state of the telephony interfaces type FXS (subscriber) and FXO (office) is also shown. Here too
blue is the color for standby (available for calls) while yellow is for an active state (in a voice call or
preparing for a call).
Default state – both interfaces are in repose (on hook)
Mobile call coming in and being routed
to the FXS interface. The user hears the
ring and answers – picks up the
telephone. Now “fxs_off_hook” is
shown over a yellow background.
Mobile call coming in and being routed this time
to the FXO interface. Then the GSM call is
connected to the FXO interface. The mobile
module is active and the FXO port is off hook,
both shown on a yellow background, while the
FXS interface remains inactive (on hook), over a
blue background.
A local call is routed from the FXS interface to the FXO interface.
The FXS interface rings, the FXO interface detects the ring signal.
The user at the local extension where the FXO call is routed picks
up the phone. The call is connected, both telephone interfaces
are active (off hook). The GSM module is not involved in this call,
it remains registered, but not active (over a blue background).

All three interfaces active.
This is not a usual situation, it may be a GSM-to-FXO call and a user
picks up the FXS phone. Or you have a FXS-to-FXO call, and a call
comes in over the mobile network. MobiLink may issue warning
tones ins such cases – when you are in a call to FXO, and a GSM call
comes in, or when you are in a mobile call, and a another call form
FXO comes in. You may choose to switch calls, placing the initial
call on hold, or to end the first call and take over the second.
7.2. GSM Channel
To configure the GSM module click on its tab at the top of the screen and the “GSM Settings”
window shows up, allowing you to specify the operating parameters for the respective GSM module:

7.2.1 Category
Here are some General settings for the GSM module.
CLIR - if this option is checked then identity of the call will
not be sent (identity restricted). By default, this checkbox is
NOT enabled, so the identity will be sent out.
Note – the option CLIR enables or disables sending of ID for all the calls performed over the
respective mobile module. But the OAM program also has means to individually choose if you want
to send out or not the ID. For more info about this feature, see explanation in the “Routing” tab,
column “Identity”.
Changing PIN – when this option is checked, it prevents
using the SIM card on equipment. The MobiLink box
replaces the initial PIN code with another, random
generated. When the subscriber card has activated the
option “PIN code request”, and the actual value of the Pin
differs from the value stored by the equipment, MobiLink
will generate a random value for PIN code. Since it is
random, it cannot be known, and the respective SIM won’t
be usable on any other mobile terminal, except for the
MobiLink box where it was installed.
IN (Incoming Calls)
This section tells MobiLink how to deal with the incoming calls (calls that get into the equipment via
the mobile module). By default it should be checked, so the module can receive incoming calls.
If you disable this option, then all incoming calls will be rejected!
OUT (Allow Outgoing Calls) – if checked, the mobile port will be used for outgoing calls. If this box
is not enabled, the GSM module will NOT be used for outgoing calls;
No mobile calls state
When both incoming and outgoing calls are disabled, the GSM module is no longer in
use for calls. This is not a normal situation, since MobiLink is a mobile gateway!
In this case, the GSM module is powered down by the equipment, it will display over a red
background the message “m-RPS”.
DISA – if this checkbox is enabled, instead of using a Target, the incoming call will be forwarded
to a port of the PABX, using Dial In Tone. The field Target, instead of holding the “Target No”, will
be used to specify the “Number of digits”.
The incoming call will be answered by the MobiLink device and a DISA tone will be provided to the
calling party. On this tonality the caller can dial (using DTMF codes) a local extension of the PBX.
Important! When DISA Tone checkbox is selected, the field “Target Type” becomes irrelevant. The
maximum number of digits that are waited to come from the 2G/3G network is specified in
“Routing table”. When this number is reached, the call is forwarded, even if digits are still
coming. You may specify at most 20 digits in this field.

Call Progress Tones - when this option is checked then the user will
hear in the headset the tones indicating the phases of the call.
Call progress tones are audible tones sent from the PSTN or a PBX to calling parties to indicate the
status of phone calls. The technical characteristics intended usage for some wide use progress tones
are defined in the ITU-T recommendations E.180 and E.182.
When this feature is enabled, the user will hear a tone as soon as the numbering has been sent to
the GSM module, until the moment that ring back tone is received from the mobile network.
If you disable this feature, no tones will be sent, the user will hear only silence on the line and he
won’t know is the establishing of the call is going on or not.
Additional settings in Category
DTMF transmit by MSC – by default, it is not checked. This means the DTMF information will be sent
in-band, over the normal voice channel. This usually works fine, but because of the compression
employed for voice transmission, the tones cound get distorted, so they will be misinterpreted at
destination. In this case, you mark the box, to rely on the Mobile Switching Center form sending out the
DTMF codes. DTMF is blocked for the voice channel, and instead special AT commands are sent. They
“order” MSC to sent to the destination the respective DTMF codes. This way, you make sure the
codes get intact to the destination!

Call time Limit – when you check this box, it enables the limiting of the number of minutes of
speech for each month, the “GSM Minutes”. By default, it is disabled. So, if you want to use GSM
Minutes to limit the number of minutes of credit, you must first enable the feature from here!

7.2.2 Destination, target
This group of settings refers to the routing of INCOMING calls. It
may be used together with the Routing table, which manages
the OUTGOING calls.
Direction - the “direction” or trunk group to which the port
belongsThere are several possible directions: Trunk 0, 1 …4. You can assign one or two directions for the
one or two mobile networks (for equipments that feature several mobile modules), one for PSTN
and one for PBX. The fourth direction, Trunk 3, it is not a real one, it is used only to forbid
(prohibit) access to certain prefixes. “trunk3” is in fact a rejection criteria, it is used for telephone
numbers that you want to be rejected (no calls are allowed towards these numbers).
Select from the drop list the “direction” where the
current mobile module will be assigned. You will see the
default Trunks: 0, 1, 2, 3. By default, the GSM module is
assigned to the first direction, Trunk 0. This direction
must be used together with the Routing Table.
This fourth Trunk is not a real direction for routing the calls, it may be used to reject (forbid) calls.
If you select this “dummy” direction in the Routing Table for some prefixes, the corresponding calls
will be forced to a “non-existent” direction.
Target type – you must specify which MobiLink port is
the destination for the mobile calls; select either FXO
or FXS, or REJ to reject the respective calls.
This selection is valid when the DISA box is NOT
checked!
When you select FXO as Target type, you
must enter in the field “Target” the
number of the local extension where the
call coming in from GSM will be routed,
such as 183 or “3905” in this example:
The routing of the call inside MobiLink can be seen in the Status
tab of the OAM program: a call comes in from the Mobile
network, via GSM module, which is active. The call is sent
through the FXO interface to the private branch exchange, which
calls local subscriber with internal number 3905.
The FXS interface of MobiLink is not active in this example (it
remains on hook).

When you select FXS as Target type, the field “Target” is no
longer relevant, you may leave it empty, the call will be
anyway routed to the FXS interface:
Now the same call from GSM will be routed to the FXS interface of
MobiLink, which will ring the phone connected to it. The same
Status tab of the OAM program will show the routing of the call
inside MobiLink in this case – the call coming in form GSM gets to the
telephone connected to the FXS interface.
Call handling
The option DISA and Target are mutually exclusive, only one of them should. be enabled by the user
at a time moment. If you select the checkbox DISA in Categories, the Target field does no longer
matter, you must specify the routing in the Routing tab:
DISA + FXS
The call coming in gets DISA tone. When you dial a single character, “*”, the call is routed to Trunk
2, which is the FXS interface. The phone connected to FXS will ring. Since the FXS interface is a
single option, one digit is enough, there is no need for further selection.
DISA +
FXO
If neither DISA checkbox is enabled nor Target field completed, that is a wrong situation because no
method to deal with the incoming call is defined. If you do not want to allow incoming calls on a
2G/3G module, then the best method is to disable the "IN" checkbox for it.
If you don’t enable DISA checkbox, but use Target instead, the call will be forwarded to the port of
the PABX through the fxs or fxo interface of MobiLink specified in the "Type" field. There can be
either the final user, or a human operator which answers at the internal extension specified and
decides which local extension to call.
The maximum size for the target field is 4 digits.
Note: the "Target " field can contain only digits from "0" to "9" (the number of a local extension of
the PBX, such as 105 or 1196) or the characters "---" to indicate an empty value.

7.2.3 SIM
PIN Code – it the SIM card has enabled the request for PIN, you
must complete this field with the correct PIN code for the
respective SIM and 2G/3G module.
The default value is “1234” - this is used when checking for PIN code is not enabled.
The length of the field "Pin Code" must be four digits, with individual values between '0' and '9'.
7.2.4 Identification
The bottom right corner of the OAM screen shows
identification info about the SIM card, about the
equipment, and concerning the operator of the
mobile network.
IMSI Code – the IMSI (International Mobile Subscriber
Identity) code, that is specific to the subscriber,
therefore to the Sim card used.
See below a few IMSI codes, from different SIM cards used in the modules of MobiLink:

IMEI – this is the International Mobile Equipment Identifier. 15-digit number that uniquely identifies an
individual mobile terminal wireless device. While IMSI is subscriber-related, the IMEI is equipmentrelated. Thus it is specific for a certain mobile terminal (telephone, modem or GSM module of the
MobiLink). If you change the SIM card used in MobiLink, the IMSI will change accordingly, but the
equipment identifier, IMEI, will remain the same.
Operator - the name or code of the mobile carrier, as supplied by the mobile network.”.
Thus it can be either the explicit name, such as “Vodafone RO” “Orange
or “Cosmote”, or a code as “22603” or “22601”
7.2.5 USB port Indication
Shows the state of the USB port used for connection between OAM program and the Topex box. It
can be closed, opened (transmitting data a or commands) or off-line (MobiLink not connected)

7.2.6 CLI Replacement
The “CLI Replacement Sequence” field lets you replace the original identification for a call with
another ID, of your choice. Only the first four digits are taken into account.
For instance, the current example, all calls with the
prefix “089” will have the first three digits replaced with
“022”.
An application of this feature is when the mobile carriers
sent out the identity beginning with the country prefix,
such as +004219999999 ….
If the call is not answered, and someone wants to call back, the PBX may not allow dialing of
numbers that start with “00”, considering them to be international calls, which are forbidden! With
CLI Replacement, you could bypass this restriction.
7.2.7 DTMF Code
The full name of this field explains this function “DTMF code for sending out a FLASH on the FXO
port”. When the timer field “Flash Timer” is set to a value different from the default OFF, in case
of a conversation between FXO and GSM, the DTMF codes received from the mobile caller are
analyzed.
If the succession of codes established in this field (*37# in this
example) is detected, a FLASH will be sent over the FXO port.
This is useful when you want to access different PBX services that are available via FLASH, for
instance the transfer of the call to another port of the phone exchange where MobiLink 2ab is
connected.
7.2.8 GSM Minutes
The RTC-enabled variant of MobiLink
provides you an additional feature, “GSM
Minutes”. By means of this feature you can
limit the number of conversation minutes to
be used over the mobile module for each
month!
This can be useful, for instance, when the
SIM card has a subscription with a certain
number of minutes for each month, and the
network operator charges heavily the calls
performed after the expiration of the
respective number of minutes!
The time limitation may also be used as a
mean of cost-control, to avoid getting large
bills at the end of the month …
This feature is active only when you have
marked the checkbox “Call time limit” in
the field Categories.

How it works:
You establish an initial credit, which is decreased according to the rules of the mobile carrier. When
the current credit reaches zero, no more outgoing calls can be performed over the GSM module!
Init day: the day of the month (from 1 up to 31) when a new billing month starts. By default is set
to 1, since it is normal that a new moths starts on the1st but you can set any day you wish.
First Period: the first billing period, time unit for billing upon answering. Usually it is one minute –
the default value. You can set up the two digits for the minutes and seconds – for instance a value
of 0:30 will mean that upon answering, billing is done for a half-minute interval.
Second Period: the next billing period, after answering. Also expressed as two digits for the
minutes and seconds. In Romania, most mobile providers use a one –minute period upon answering,
and then billing is done for each second of the call. This, the default value for second period is 0
minutes, 1 seconds.
Init Credit: the initial value of the credit , in minutes. The example above shows an initial monthly
credit of 2000 minutes.
Current Credit: the actual (current) value of the credit, which is left after subtracting form the
initial credit of the conversation time used over the GSM module. The example above shows an
current credit of 1690 minutes. This value is decremented as the mobile module is used. When the
current credit reaches zero, no more outgoing calls are allowed over the GSM module! The user
must wait until “’ Init day “, when a new moths is considered to begin, and the counter is resetted –
the user gets a new period of “Init credit ‘!
7.2.9 RTC Enabled
How can you know if your MobiLink equipment is RTC-enabled or not?
The OAM program takes care of this for you – if the backup battery for RTC is missing, or is
depleted, the current time of the equipment will NOT be the correct one. The OAM program sense
this discrepancy, and consequently blanks out the panel “GSM Minutes’.

Thus, you simply go to the GSM tab and look at the screen – if your equipment has a functional real
time Clock, the panel “GSM Minutes’ will be visible to the right, above the Save button, as shown:

7.2.10 Conference
At the bottom left of the GSM screen you can see the settings for conference (multi-way call, conversation
with several mobile subscribers at the same time):

Initiate Conference: code that will be used to initiate a multi-subscriber mobile call (conference).
Allowed values are the same as for the phone number, that is digits from zero up to nine, the
symbols # and *.
Add Call to Conference: code that will be used to add a new subscriber to the ongoing a multisubscriber mobile call (conference). Allowed values are the same as for the phone number, that is
digits from zero up to nine, the symbols # and *. If you enter a code in this field, you must use it to
add another subscriber to the conference. When you leave this field empty, new subscribers will be
added automatically to the ongoing conference.
How to make a conference call
Every conference begins as a normal call from MobiLink to a mobile subscriber. You may add up to
five subscribers to this call, if your mobile carrier allows this. This is the upper limit of the Topex
equipment! But it may be possible that your mobile operator only allows conferences with three
subscribers, so you will be able to connect just three subscribers in a call.
Dial the code you have entered in the field Initiate Conference. The equipment will dial these codes
in DTMF, and the user will hear a special warning tone. This tone confirms you that the equipment
has received the init code, and is ready to dial the number of the next subscriber to be added into
the conference. Upon reception of the first digit, the initial code disappears, so that the user can
dial the mobile number he wants to join.
The same initial code can be used to disconnect a subscriber from the conference! Suppose the
number you have called does not answer, so you need to remove it from the conference. When you
dial the initial code, the call will be released and the conversation switches back to the first
subscriber.
For the next subscriber to be added, and the following, the procedure is the same.
When the field Add Call to Conference has been left empty, the addition of a new subscriber to the
conference will be done automatically. If you have typed a code in this field, you must use this code
to validate the addition. So, subscriber A talks to B, the dials the init code to add subscriber C. If
the Add code is present, subscriber a will be connected only to C, and he can warn C about the
conference, that decide whether to add him to the conference (by dialling the add code) or not.

7.2.11 Save
Save – save the modifications. (This button is found on every
configuration page of the OAM program for MobiLink.
Finally, you use the “Save” button located to the right of each configuration panel to save the
changes.
By pressing this button, you send the new settings to the MobiLink equipment, which sends you back
a confirmation message:
If you forget to click "Save", there is no risk of the changes not being saved – the OAM program
warns you about this, by reminding you that you have made changes, but they are not saved:
Now, if you want to discard the changes you performed, click "Yes".
Should you want to keep the changed settings, click No to go back to the previous page and use the
Save button.

7.3 FXS
This OAM file card refers to the set-up of the FXS port of MobiLink. To configure the subscriber
interface of MobiLink, click the “FXS” tab and the windows with the settings for the FXS port will
appear, as shown:

7.3.1 . Category
Line Voltage Off - if you enable this option, when the
mobile module is not registered with the network, no line
voltage will be generated. This means that the subscriber
won’t be able to make a phone call.
This option makes sense when there is no FXO connection to the PBX or to the public telephony
network, so a call from a local subscriber can get out only thought the mobile module. Now, if the
module is not registered, no line voltage will be generated – the user will get no dial tone so he will
know that it is not possible to make calls.
Loop Break – if you mark this checkbox, it enables the
action of breaking the phone line loop.
Hotline – enables the hotline feature, direct access to a certain
number acting as hot line desk.
Minute Minder – you can activate this billing feature, for
taxation purposes (charging of the calls). The MobiLink box
can send out metering pulses for the purpose of accurately
billing of the calls made through the equipment.
Also, together with the billing pulses it can produce an audio (sound) confirmation at the calling
party. This way, the caller will know that his call is billed as time passes.
Warning tone features
These two options (for FXO and respectively for GSM) are useful when the fxs interface is in a call
and another call comes in via the other interface. For example the local subscriber is in a
conversation with the FXO interface, and another call comes in via the mobile module, or viceversa.
If the corresponding option is enabled (you may leave both
boxes checked), when the second call comes in, the local
subscriber will hear warning tones (groups of three beeps).
Now he knows another call is coming in, and he can take a
decision about the second call.
The subscriber may do nothing, press the “star” symbol on the keypad, to place the other call on
hold, or press the “#” symbol to go to the second call with the releasing of the first call.
If one selects the “*” symbol, the other party in call will hear beeps, so he will be informed that his
call has been placed on hold. When the subscriber wants to resume the call, he must press again the
star symbol. Now the first call is re-connected, while the second is terminated.

7.3.2 . CLIP
You can select the mode of sending out the Caller ID information.
There are several major caller ID specifications in the world:
DTMF, ETSI FSK and Bellcore FSK. When you use mobile terminals
in different countries or continents, it may encounter the problem
of non-match for caller ID standard. This will make the equipment
unable to display the caller ID.
For example, a terminal manufactured for Europe, which uses ETSI FSK standard, may not work
properly in if you live in India, Saudi Arabia of the Netherlands, where the caller ID standard is
DTMF.
Another FSK standard for CLIP is Bellcore/Telcordia “GR-30”, used in North America, Australia,
China, Taiwan, and Hong Kong). Most of Europe (France, Germany, Norway, Italy, Spain, South
Africa, Turkey, etc.) sends out ID using ETSI ETS 300 FSK standard, while ETSI ETS 300 DTMF
standard has several variants, used in different parts of the world.
Here you may choose the ETSI FSK or DTMF, and you can select to send out the ID before or after
the ring signal.
7.3.3 . Teletax
Teletax refers to the metering signal, used for billing purposes. By
default, MobiLink does NOT send out such a signal. The tariff pulse
It is a high frequency tone, sent out on FXS interface over the
conversation, at preset intervals. You may choose the frequency of
this metering signal, either 12 or 16 KHz. It is a pseudo-billing, this
tariff metering doe not correspond to real price of call, tariff
pulses sent at preset intervals.
You have to set up specific parameters in routing table for FXS, in order to ensure correct tariff
metering for different prefixes of dialed numbers table to. Also, the telephone exchange is the one
who must provide the actual billing (metering of tariff) during calls to the interface FXO.
Warning! The high frequency metering system used by MobiLink 2ab will only work in situations where
the connection between the phone exchange and the customer's premises is not conditioned i.e. does
not have any line-amplifiers, loading coils (3.4KHz maximum transmission limit), signaling repeaters,
hybrid amplifiers or other filters that could cut of the frequencies higher than human speech.

7.3.4 Polarity
Several phone exchanges and services make use of
reversal of loop polarity.
Here you can select the polarity (positive or negative)
for different phases of a phone call – during dialing,
during ringing, when the caller answers, when the call
is released, and so on.
For each phase of a call, you may choose either “+” or
“-“. The loop polarity is relative, it is only the
reversal that matters.
7.3.5 . Timers
Here are grouped settings for two of the timers used by MobiLink for the FXS port, and also the
phone number for the “Hotline” feature.
Loop Break Time – the phone line loop will be “broken” for
the duration specified here. The value is expressed in
milliseconds, the default is 1000 msec (one second).
Use the small up/down arrows to select the value, in 100 m seconds increments. The breaking of
the loop is achieved by turning off the line voltage for the duration you have selected.
Hotline Time – time used for selecting the “Hotline” feature, in
seconds. Use the small up/down arrows to choose values from zero
up to 5 seconds, the default setting is 4 seconds.
It is active only when the check box “Hotline” has been marked. If during the time interval
specified here, no digits (numbering) are received, the FXS interface will automatically send out the
phone number specified in the field below, “Hotline number”.
Hotline Number – here you type the telephone number to be
used for the Hotline service.
7.3.6 . Direction
Direction - the direction to which the FXS port will be assigned belonging. This incoming route
assignment must be used together with the outgoing assignment in “Routing table”.
Typically the FXS interface is assigned to the direction Trunk
1, while the mobile module is on trunk 0 and the FXO
interface is on Trunk 1.

7.4.1 . Category
Here are some general settings for the FXS interface.
Action – action to be taken upon incoming calls, it may be
either DISA or target.
If you mark this checkbox, the action taken for incoming calls will be “Target”. This means that the
incoming call will be routed to the destination specified in the field “Target”, which will be
explained further on. If you leave this box unchecked, the action will be DISA instead or Target. In
this case, the caller will be provided with a DISA tone, allowing him to dial-in a phone number using
DTMF.
Generate Dial Tone – when you check this option, the equipment
will generate an audio tone for the caller, allowing him to dial
digits in mode DTMF.
Enables the Hotline feature for the FXO interface (you must then complete the
other Hotline-related fields.
Minute Minder – activates the billing services,
generates a taxation pulse at the programmed time
intervals.
Busy tone monitor – enables the “learning” of the
particular tone that means “busy” on your phone
exchange. The FXO interface must be thought the local
busy tone, which may be not a standard one. Check this
box and then click “learn Busy Tone” and follow the
prescribed procedure.
7.4.2 . Target
Again, the type and identity of the target for the incoming call, this time for the FXO interface.
In the field “Target”, you can specify the target
number where the call coming in through the FXO
interface will be forwarded.
Target Type – choose the type of target for forwarding. Since the call
comes in via FXO interface, the only available options are FXS or GSM
(Mobile).
7.4.3 . Direction
The “Direction” where the FXO interface is assigned. By default,
the FXO interface is allocated on Trunk 1. This trunk must be used
together with the outgoing settings in “Routing table”.

7.4.4 Timers
Timer and phone number for the Hotline service.
Hotline Time – enter the value, in seconds, until
the “hotline” feature takes action. When you
activate the service by marking the Hotline box
in Category, if during the time interval specified
here, no digit is received, the FXO interface will
automatically send out the phone number you
have typed in the field “hotline Number”. The
default value is 4 seconds, use the small arrows
to increase or decrease the interval.
In the filed Hotline Number, enter the phone
number to be dialed by the Hotline service.
7.4.5 Learn Busy Tone
Click this button to “teach” to MobiLink the busy tone.
First be sure that there are no calls over the GSM or FXS interfaces.
Then, type in the field “Target” for the FXO interface, the
number of the extension where the FXO port is connected.
Then click the button to start the “learning”
procedure.
The OSM program will ask you for confirmation:
Press OK to confirm, then it starts the
procedure.
Wait abut 12 seconds while MobiLink makes a call and hangs up.
At the end of than time interval you will see either a failure
message:

Verification of the detection of busy tone
To check that the detection of congestion tone was done right, make a call from FXS towards the
number where the FXO port is connected ; you must hear a “busy” tone, then the junction will be
released.
Now you can enter in the Target field the real value for forwarding of the call. It may be either a
local extension of the PBX, such as “284” in this example, or an outside number, in a public
telephony network:

tone!

7.5. Routing Table
By selecting the "Routing" tab in the title bar" will be displayed the window for defining routing
rules for outgoing calls:
The routing table is a collection of maximum 20 records, each records containing:
- index (colored in light green to indicate that is not editable), the indexes are from zero up to 19;
- number (the prefix - the number for which a certain direction will be chosen.
The total length of the "Number" field is 12 digits, if you
try to enter more than 12 digits, they will be simply
ignored.
The allowed characters for this field are digits from '0' to '9' plus the keypad symbols “#” and
respectively “*”, which have special usage as explained further on referring to the “Identity”
column.

Also, you can insert in whatever position inside the telephone number the characters 'x', which will
be interpreted by the MobiLink system as “any digit”.
- direction - the direction (four possible values, Trunks 0 … 3 ) to which the call with the prefix
specified in the "Number" field will be routed.
- number of digits - this is the number of digits expected to be received before forwarding the call
through a resource.
Typically, the number of digits is from 10 to 12 for most
mobile or PSTN telephone networks.
In case of a local subscriber of the PBX, the number of
the respective extension is 2, 3 or 4 digits long.
The maximum value for the number of digits is 20, if
you enter a larger number you will get an error message
like this:
In Romania all the mobile networks always use the same length for its phone numbers – ten digits.
Thus the parameter “Nr. of Digits” can be set to this length. This causes the MobiLink to send the
outgoing call immediately after that number of digits have been received, without waiting for time out
specified by Dial Timeout (for details see section about Timers).
- ignore – the number of digits to be ignored from the received number. The number of digits to be
ignored must be equal or less that the number of digits expected.
By default it is zero, meaning no digits are ignored. But you may set it to one or two, causing the first
one or two digits to be ignored. This is useful to establish specific Identity behavior, or when assigning
higher priority for certain outgoing calls. In this case, the phone exchange inserts a „dummy” digits at
the beginning of phone numbers dialed by the high priority extension. But the first digit is a „dummy”
(false one), so in the Routing Table you must specify „Ignore 1”, in order to ignore the first digit, which
has been used only internally, to assign a higher priority. Another example of „ignore” usage is when
you want certain numbers to send or not the Caller ID, using the next field, Identity.
- identity – rule for managing the identity of each outgoing calls.
There are three option you can select: „Based on CLIP GSM” (default),
„Don’t Send” or „Send”.
As described previously at „GSM channel”, you can specify CLIP or CLIR when configuring a GSM
module, but this will affect in the same way all of the calls made over the respective module, it is a
general setting. Suppose that you want to selectively send out or not the ID. Use the column „identity”
together with the rules for routing and Ignore, as shown below:

Rule 5 – the prefix 0732 will be routed to direction Trunk 0, that means it will get out via the GSM
module which is assigned on this direction, as normal. The identity will be sent out or not, according
to the marking of the checkbox CLIR in the tab “GSM”..
Rule 0 – the numbers with prefix 0732, which are starting with the character string „#31#” will be
routed through the GSM module, as above, and the first four „dummy” characters will be ignored. The
column Identity says in this case „Don’t send”.
Rule 1 – similar to rule 1, the numbers with prefix 0732, which are starting now with the character
string „#31¤” will be routed through the GSM module, and the first four „dummy” characters will be
ignored. But now the column Identity says „Send”. What does this mean?
When a user of MobiLink (a local subscriber) wants to get out via the respective mobile network
without sending out the identity, he will dial a” at the beginning of the requested phone number.
Should he want to send the Caller ID, he dials a „#31*” character before the mobile number (the fourth
character is a star, *, instead of the previous „#”.)
Editing and saving
You may edit each field from the columns "Number", "Direction", "Nr.of Digits", “Ignore” and
respectively “Identity” (columns colored in light blue).
You must point with the mouse on the field that you want to modify. That field will be highlighted
with a black rectangle and the background color will turn to light green, indicating that it may be

but there is no “Save” button to the right.

7.6. CLIP Table
If you click the tab "CLIP list” in the row of tabs at the top of the OAM screen, the window for editing the CLIP
list records will be displayed:
The Static CLIP table has several uses: to configure a default number different from that in the
GSM channel settings, or to filter out calls (prevent certain callers from calling specific
destinations).
The incoming calls are treated according to their ID (originating number), in several steps:
- the program goes to the current table, CLIP list (static). The table with CLIP list is checked for
the received identity;
- If the ID is not found in this table, then the GSM settings (see the tab GSM Channel 0) will be
analyzed.

The static CLIP table is a collection of maximum 50 records, each one on a row:
each records containing:
Index (0 to 49, colored in light green to indicate that is not editable)
Number (the identity), phone number for which a certain "Target" will be selected.
The total length of the "Number" field is 14 figures. The
allowed values are digits from '0' to '9'.
- Action, list of actions to be performed; allowed values are "FXS", "FXO" and
respectively " Reject ". The default is “Reject”.
If you select "Reject" action for a line then the number (identity) specified on that line will make no
action. Values "FXS" and "FXO" are used in the same manner as for the mobile modules settings.
The functionality is specified from the "Type" list and the target for the call is filled in the "Target /
Nr. of Digits" field.
The incoming calls will be treated according the CLIP table. For instance, a company using MobiLink
knows that the calls from a certain mobile number are from a technician in the field, so he will
always be routed to the local extension of the Support department, while the phone call of the
courier will receive DISA tone, so he may call whatever office he needs.
If "TARGET" is selected from the "Type" list then the incoming call will be routed to the number read
from the "Target" field. In the example above, the targets are three-digit local extensions such as
284, 399, etc.
If "DISA" is selected from the "Type" list instead of Target, then the call will be answered and a callback tone will provided allowing the caller to dial in any destination he wishes, using DTMF.
When you finished editing the CLIP table, you must send the new settings to the MobiLink
equipment.
The "Save" button is used to load the modified records into the MobiLink system.
If you make changes but forget to use Save, you will be reminded by the warning:

7.6 Tone and Ring Settings
Here you can define particular (customized) dial and busy tones, or ring signal.
You may need to change the default settings for different tones if the PBX used performs detection
of the dial tone or of busy tone, and in “knows” only a specific tone. In the case, you must changes
the tones generated by MobiLink accordingly, to match these which are standard for the respective
phone exchange.
Also, it is possible that the local customers are used with certain tones, so you should adjust the
tones generated by the MobiLink equipment for the best fitting with their expectations!

Dial Tone
Every tone generated by the equipment has
four boxes describing a period of the tone.
Inn each box you can specify one or two
frequencies and the respective duration, in
milliseconds. The default setting is the dial
tone for Romania, 440 Hz continuous.
Many countries use a continuous wave dial tone, but the frequency may be different, such as 425 Hz
for Albania or as 400 Hz for Angola.
Others follow the United Kingdom model, which is also continuous but adds up two frequencies, 350
and 440 Hz at the same time.
Italy has a cadenced dial tone, the settings
will look like this:
425 Hz for 200 msec, then a 200 msec pause
(0 = no tone), 425 Hz for 600 msec followed
by a 1000 msec pause.
Busy Tone
Also called Congestion tone, it signifies
that the line or switching equipment
required for a call or specific service is
temporarily engaged (not available).
Generally this busy tone is fast cadenced,
symmetrical – that is with the On period
equal to the Off period.
For Romania the frequency is 425 Hz with 150 msec on/off period, other countries use a longer
chopping period, such as 250 msec in the example above.
Sometimes a dual-frequency tone known as
the fast busy tone or the congestion tone
is used, the two frequencies being of 480
Hz and 620 Hz , and the cadence of 0.25
sec as in this example.
Also, sometime in the same country there are several different types of signals known as busy
signals, indicating respectively that no transmission path is available right now, that you have has
dialed an invalid code, or that the called party has hung up the phone.
Ring Settings
The “ring” alerting sound is used to indicate the presence of an incoming call. It consists of a
ringing signal periodically interrupted by silent (no ringing signal) intervals.
It is generally of low frequency, 20 or 25 Hz, since in the past the fixed telephones used an
electromagnetically driven bell.

Here again, variation of the ring signal can be used to indicate characteristics of incoming calls - for
instance, ring pulses with a shorter interval between them may be used to signal a call coming from
a priority phone number!
Or you may need to set the ringing of the phone connected to MobiLink to be distinctive, different
from the ring sound of other phones used in the office.
7.7 Timers
This option is used for setting several general timers for MobiLink: minute minder, warning time
and dial timeout, forking timer and duration of the “flash”.

Minute Minder Period – generally used for billing
purposes, here you can set the time period, in seconds
, for the generation of a charging pulse.
The default period is one minute (60 sec), you can specify a different value.
Warning Time – you can set here the time interval for issuing a warning sound, prior to the
expiration of the billing period. With the settings above, the warning beep will sound 4 seconds
before the expiration of the billing period, which is of 30 seconds. This way, the caller knows that
another period of billing is coming, and may decide to end the call (hang up the phone).
Dial Timer
At the bottom of the Timers tab you can see the field
“Dial Timer”.
After reaching the number of seconds you have
entered here, MobiLink will sent out the phone
number towards GSM, even if not all the digits
have been received.
Allowed values are from 1 to 12, should you type
another value you will see an error message with
the field Timeout colored in red:
Usage:
“Dial Timeout“ is the interval between dialing of the last digit of the telephone number and the
sending out of the call through the mobile network . This interval should be normally set to about 6
seconds. If you want to reduce the duration between dialing the last digit and hearing the dialing tone
you may set a lower value for Dial Timeout. It can be reduced to as low as one second, but this is
dangerous, the call may get out before you finished dialing the number!
When making an outgoing call, the MobiLink will wait until the dialing of the requested number is
completely terminated. Waiting for completion can generate a certain delay between dialing of
mobile number and actual selection. If this is annoying, you may set the option “Number”
accordingly to destinations most frequently called (For instance, a mobile network that uses 12-digit
numbers). Then, for these records, the Topex box will dial immediately (as soon as it receives the
last digit), without waiting anymore.
Forking Timer
Enables and sets up the timer for the “call forking” action. This “forking action” of MobiLink means
that a call from FXO to FXS can be automatically routed to a mobile number, if the FXS extension
does not answer. When the feature is activated, MobiLink detects the ring signal, and following a
programmable delay, will sent out a call also over the mobile network, to the GSM number that you
have set up in the field Target of the tab FXO. The first one to answer, either the FXS local
subscriber of the GSM number called, will get the call, and the other call will be stopped.
By default the Forking Timer is set to OFF, meaning this feature is disabled. To enable it, you must
set a time value in this field, up to 180 seconds.
One application of the forking feature is that “the call gets to you no matter where you are”. A
client rings you: if you are at the office, you pick up your fixed phone, with extension 4091, and
talk. If you are out in the filed, the extension does not answer, so MobiLink reroutes the incoming
call to the number of your cell phone, 099111111111, and the client still can reach you!

Flash Timer
Enables and establishes the duration of the FLASH. During a call from a mobile network to the FXO
port, you can use DTMF codes to send a “flash” to the phone exchange, in order to access special
functions of the PBX, such as transfer of the call to another extension. By default it is set to OFF,
the feature is disabled. If you want to use the FLASH feature, enter a value in this field. The step
(increment) is 100 msec, and the maximum value is 1800 milliseconds. A common value for the
duration of the FLASH is 500 msec, but you must set up this timer according to the actual
specifications of your phone exchange!
7.8 Password
You can change the default password for connection, which is “mlink”.
Enter the new password in the first field, them enter it again on the second field, as a confirmation
that you have typed it correctly the fist time.
It is recommended to change the default password as soon as possible.
However, MobiLink is connected directly via USB to your computer, it is a private link, not a PUBLIC
connection, such as the ones that use the Internet or the local network of your company, so that
the security risks are much reduced.

7.9 SMS
SMS messages can also be sent out and received by the TOPEX LCR box, using the tab “SMS”.
The file card “SMS”, which shows up, has several panes:

on top, over light blue background, a list of the SMS messages sent or received. The columns
of the list show the SIM (GSM module) used, the type (Input or Output), the destination or
source phone number, the state of the message, the date and time, and the full text of the
message,
-
below it, over light green background, a window for composing SMS messages.
Here you can either type the message from the keyboard of the computer, or you paste the
text that you have copied from another application (text processor, e-mail client,
spreadsheet, data base, etc). To the right you enter the mobile phone number that is the
destination of the SMS, then press the button “Send” located at the bottom.

on top right you can find the control pane. From here, you can manage the list of received
messages – you can filter them out or delete them. In the two fields of the “Define Period”
window, enter the dates for beginning and respective ending, then click the button Filter to
see only the SMS from the respective period, or Delete if you want to erase them :

The “Port Closed” indication turn to a red “Port Opened”, showing
that MobiLink transmits the message.
When the message has been successfully sent, you should see a
confirmation message like this:
In case of error, for example if you have entered an incorrect
phone number for the recipient, you will see a warning that the
message could not be transmitted:
Receive SMS
To read the received SMS messages, click on the “Read“ button. \
The button becomes gray during the operation
The indicator for the USB port becomes colored in red, indicating an open port:
The reading may take some time, since the program looks for new SMS
messages that previously have been stored either in the memory of the
GSM module or on the SIM card for the respective module, calls them up
to be shown in the “SMS“ list, and deletes them in the initial location. If
there are new messages, you will see a note telling that “SMS were read!”
The new messages are displayed at the bottom of the list:
If, since the previous click on the “Read” button, no other SMS have
been received, the program will see that there are no new messages,
and will tell you about this:
Note: the OAM program deletes the received messages, after reading and displaying them in the
list on your screen. The erasing of old messages is necessary, because the storage memory
available, either in the GSM module or on the SIM card, is limited. If the previous messages are
not deleted, the respective memory may fill up, and the module could become “blocked” for a new
incoming message – it will be unable to receive another SMS!

7.10 Terminal
The last file card of the OAM program is “Terminal“. With it you can send AT-commands
directly to GSM modules and watch their answers.
Fist press Enter to begin the session, the module must respond with an “OK”.
Then you may enter the commands in the green box labeled Command located at the bottom. In
the blue central field of the screen you see the initial command, then the answer from the module
and finally either “OK” to confirm successful interrogation, or “ERROR” when you typed something
wrong or the command is not supported on the respective GSM module or subscriber card!
For example, the AT+cops? command makes the GSM
module show the operator where it is registered.

The similar command AT+cops=? asks the mobile module for the name and identification of ALL the
mobile carriers available in the current location. Of course, unless you have the Roaming feature
activated, you won’t be able to register to all these network operators!
Next, the ATI command makes the
module show all hardware and
firmware related information:
manufacturer, model, revision,
IMEI, GSM or 3 G capabilities, and
so on. As you can see, the two
modules are identical (from the
same production batch), except
for the IMEI code which is unique
for every mobile device in the
world.

You can set the date to the year 2000,
, then the OAM program will sense
an incorrect time and thus decide that the RTC feature is not operating properly. Consequently, it

8. FILES
General description
The MLINKoam program uses several types of files, for different purposes: for CDR, for saving
current configuration (your settings), for its internal configuration, system software image files
(application software to be sent to a MobiLink unit), etc.
When you install the application, or when you run it for the first time, it creates three sub-folders
in the respective root directory. These are called CONFIG, OUT and SAVED.
8.1 Folder CONFIG
The CONFIG subfolder stores the files holding the internal configuration for MobiLink. Normally it is
a single file, named “settings.cfg”. This file contains internal settings for the Topex box.
The configuration of a MobiLink system can be downloaded and saved in a file named by the user.
The file will have extension "cfg" and will be located in the "SAVED" sub-directory, in the same place
where the program "MLINKoam.exe" is located. After you save the configuration of one MobiLink
system you can load it into several other Topex systems.

8.2 Folder OUT
The OUT sub-folder holds reference and output files, that is the storage for sms messages.
Sms.ref is the file that holds the SMS messages sent and received through MobiLink:
8.3 Folder SAVED
In this subfolder the OAM program stores the saved configuration files.
These configuration files contain all your settings (parameters for the equipment) that you have
saved previously – directions allocation, settings of the GSM modules, settings for FXS and FXO
interfaces, routing table, CLIP table, tone and ring settings, SMS information, etc.

8.4 Image Files
These files are used to
perform
firmware
update for the Topex
box.
In this example, all the
firmware image files
for different Topex
equipments are stored
in a folder called
Updates on the C:
(system) hard disk
drive of the PC.
Specifically, the files
intended for MobiLink2-GSM are stored in
the sub-folder named
“Mob-LCR”:
The software image file has "hex" extension.
It is a downloadable image of the software application that runs on the MobiLink equipment. Such
kind of file can be located anywhere on the Hard Disk.
The user will open the file from a dialog window and the software image will be sent into the
respective MobiLink system to perform upgrade. After this, you must reset MobiLink (power it off,
then connect again the power supply adapter) to make it work with the new firmware.

9. GLOSSARY
Here you have the explanation of some terms and acronyms used in the user manual for the MobiLink
(FXS and FXO to GSM interface).
ANI - Acronym for Automated Number Identification; A number (typically telephone number) that
is sent along the phone line at the beginning of a call. It identifies the calling party to the receiving
party. Named also Caller ID. This is used by the OAM program for automated routing of incoming
calls according to their ID.
Bootloader – bootstrap loader, small program that launches first upon power up and helps loading the
operating system. Any computer system can execute only code that is stored in DRAM memory, but the
operating system is stored on hard disk drives or Flash memory. In the case of MobiLink, the boot
loader starts first when you power up the equipment and allows loading of the main application that
controls the MobiLink to GSM interface.
CLIP - Acronym for Calling Line Identity Presentation. For end-users, this service is handy in order to
screen incoming calls, prepare the specific response, greeting the caller by name or looking up for
missed or unanswered phone calls. The MobiLink unit makes use of the CLIP facility to identify the
subscribers who called and route the calls according to their Caller ID. You may enable or disable
sending and receiving of caller ID.
DID - Acronym for Direct Inward Dialing. Allows a party calling from outside into a PABX to be
connected directly to a local extension, without need for assistance from the operator. This way,
incoming calls can get directly to the local subscriber they need.
DISA – Acronym for Direct Inward System Access. This function allows an outside caller to directly
access a local subscriber of the phone exchange by using DTMF codes. MobiLink may use DISA instead of
Target to route the incoming calls by dialing the wanted number.
DTMF - Acronym for Dual Tone Multi Frequency, also known as "touch tone". Advanced method for
dialing a number, instead of the older Pulse mode. When you press a key on the keypad a combination
of two audio frequencies is sent on the line. MobiLink transmits the DTMF codes and uses them for DISA
routing or for sending a “flash”.
ETSI - Acronym for European Telecommunications Standards Institute, www.etsi.org. A non-profit
membership organization founded in 1988, dedicated to standardizing information and communication
technologies (ICT) throughout Europe. It promotes worldwide standards for telecommunications,
broadcasting and medical electronics, and its efforts are coordinated with the ITU. Several
telecommunication parameters have different definitions, according either to ETSI (for most of
Europe), to Bellcore (Bell Communications, for USA) or to BT (British Telecomm, in UK).
FLASH - in analog phone system, a flash means a brief line interruption, you hang up the phone line
momentarily, not long enough to break the call, to signal to the PBX that you request a special service.
MobiLink 2ab can send such a FLASH on its FXO port.
During a call from a mobile network to the FXO port, you can use DTMF codes to send a “flash” to
the phone exchange, in order to access special functions of the PBX, such as transfer of the call to
another extension. You may program the duration of the “flash”.

FORKING – the “forking action” of MobiLink means that a call from FXS to FXS can be automatically
routed to a mobile number, if the FXS extension does not answer. When the feature is activated,
MobiLink detects the ring signal, and following a programmable delay, will sent out a call also over the
mobile network, to the GSM number that you have set up in the field Target of the tab FXO. The first
one to answer, either the FXS local subscriber of the GSM number called, will get the call, and the
other call will be stopped.
IMEI - Acronym for International Mobile Equipment Identifier. 15-digit number that uniquely identifies
an individual mobile terminal wireless device. While IMSI is subscriber-related, the IMEI is equipmentrelated. Specific for a certain mobile terminal (telephone, modem or GSM module of the MobiLink).
IMSI – Acronym for International Mobile Subscriber Identity. Unique code number (for the entire
world) that identifies a GSM subscriber to the network. Linked to the user account information at
the network operator. IMSI resides in the SIM card, thus when you change the subscriber cards on
your MobiLink, you will have different IMSI codes, which are displayed by the OAM program.
MSC - Acronym for Mobile Switching Center. Also Mobile Telephone Switching Office, it is n operations
center that connects the landline PSTN system to the mobile phone system. It is also responsible for compiling
call information for billing and handing off calls from one cell to another. With MobiLink, you may choose for
the DTMF information to be sent either in-band, or by the MSC.
PBX - Acronym for Private Branch eXchange. The PBX is a small, private version of the larger central
switching office of the phone company. A PBX is a private telephone switch. It is connected to
groups of lines (junctions) from one or more central offices and to all of the telephones at the
location (subscribers, extensions) served by the PBX. Current exchanges are in fact PABX,
automated PBX, which don’t require a human operator to route the calls. MobiLink was designed to
work together with analog type Phone Exchange to route the calls, although it can perform by itself
advanced routing of calls. MobiLink may be connected to a PBX either with its FXO interface to a
local subscriber, or with its FXS interface to a trunk, or with both at the same time.
PSTN - Acronym for Public Switched Telephone Network (s).
It is the classic international fixed telephony system based on copper wires that carry voice and
data. Analog (mostly) or digital technology is used to provide voice grade services for the users that
access that network via an analog interface. MobiLink was designed to work with analog fixed public
telephony networks. You can use MobiLink without a PBX, to route the calls from an analog telephone
either to the Mobile network or to the PSTN.
SIM - Subscriber Identity Module, the subscriber card you use in your telephone or in the GSM modules
of MobiLink.
SMS - Acronym for Short Message Service; means the transmission of short text messages to and from
cellular phones. The messages must be text only (no images or graphics) and not longer than 160
alpha-numeric characters. Operators of Mobile Phone Networks use a spare data channel to send SMS
messages. You may send SMS’s to another mobile subscriber, the mobile operator can send you phone
settings over-the-air or commercial companies may send dedicated content to your mobile terminal.
Also, a special additional program implements the SMS2MAIL and MAIL2SMS functions for automatic
conversion (both ways) between e-mail and SMS messages.
SMSC - Acronym for Short Message Service Centre, the telephone number of the service center to be
used for text messages. You must set this number properly, since it is specific to each mobile operator
(carrier).

Teletax signal - high frequency metering signal, used for billing purposes. Most branch exchanges have
the option to send a high frequency signal / pulse (12 kHz in North America and Australia, 16 kHz in
Europe) over the speech pair to the customers premises for each registration that is recorded by the
customer's circuitry for call metering in the phone exchange. Third-party hardware or software at the
customer's premises can be used to record these high frequency pulses. For long distance calls, meter
pulses are sent at a pre-defined interval, the time between successive intervals being determined by
the carrier used or, inside the PSTN, by the location of the called party.
High frequency billing pulses are not subject to interference from the 50Hz 230V electricity mains and
assure reliability against errors caused by earthing problems at the customer's site, lightning strikes or
a rise in the earth potential.
The high frequency metering system will only work in situations where the connection between
the exchange and the customer's premises is not conditioned i.e. does not have any line-amplifiers,
loading coils (3.4KHz maximum transmission limit), signaling repeaters, hybrid amplifiers etc that could
cut of the frequencies higher than human speech.
Timer Call – timer for the dialing of the number. Programmable time interval during which MobiLink
waits for the digits of the phone number to be dialed.
Minute Minder Timer – timer used to implement the minute minder service. It counts the time for
the billing pulses, and can also issue a warning tone a programmable number of seconds before the
expiration of the taxation period.
